I have lost 30lbs on my weight loss journey and Purenergy has been a huge part of that! For less than the cost of that massive gym in King of Prussia and way more variety than the "Citrus Concept" down the street, you can enjoy similar class offerings, free babysitting 8:30a-12pm Monday to Friday, and twice the ambiance! I find myself in Yoga a few days a week - the studio is beautiful and the mild heat is welcome in these bitterly cold winter months! I recommend Kristy's Wall class for a great deep stretch and Sarah's Power Flow for the ultimate mind/body stress relief! As part of my New Years Resolution, I am trying more of the fitness classes here, and thus far have taken Lisa's Tabata and Michelle's Burn class - both high-intensity interval training guaranteed to ramp up your energy! You'll also find pilates, barre, aerial, spinning, and martial arts classes here - ensuring you'll never get stuck in a rut! I'd personally love to see more Pilates or core based classes in the evening, but realize that has everything to do with instructor availability and member interest! :) Beyond the class offerings at Purenergy you'll find a welcoming atmosphere, clean locker rooms, and fresh towels for the sweat you're guaranteed to break! Drop in for a class - you'll be a member before you know it!

I have been a member for over a year, and unfortunately have to leave due to our family relocating…read more The coaches at CrossFit MainLine/R5 are some of the nicest and most caring human beings you will meet. Every coach brings something special to the workouts. Once I forgot my workout shoes and one of the coaches (who I had met for the first time that class) gave me the shoes off his feet and coached the class in his socks. . . Coaches always have time to give you individual attention if you need it. After a freak injury two months ago the coaches helped tailor workouts to accommodate my injury, and were always encouraging and made me feel a part of the class. The classes are fun, high energy, and the coaches do a great job ensuring your form and technique are correct. I've noticed a big difference in strength from when I started and I always look forward to the day's workout of the day (WOD). The WODs are usually exhausting but reasonable, and all movements are carefully reviewed before the workout. Fellow athletes are welcoming and great people. CrossFit R5 (in Wayne) has a family feel, with athletes sometimes bringing in homemade (or fresh-caught) food for anyone who wants it. CrossFit MainLine has a few more young professionals and is a bit busier during peak hours. Parking at both the Wayne and Ardmore sites (a membership includes both locations) is free, safe, and painless (except the time when I drove my car off an embankment next to the parking lot at the Ardmore site getting it hopelessly stuck just over the sidewalk before class. A couple of coaches and athletes came out and actually lifted my car off!) Both boxes are solid, are continuously improving (new dumbbells, box jumps, and exercise bikes have been added over the past several months) and have a lot of growth potential (perhaps adding a late morning class on the weekends would be helpful, as making the 8:30AM or 9:30 AM classes can be tough on a Saturday or Sunday or opening more boxes in Northwest/West Philadelphia.) I highly recommend CrossFit R5/ Mainline for beginners/advanced athletes looking for a new fitness home!!

I would like to preface this review by saying that this was my very first experience with crossfit…read more I knew very little about crossfit, what it entailed, how much physical and mental determination it would require. I initially chose CFVF because it was convenient to work. The "box" is located inside of the Aspiring Champions complex in KOP. I've been attending CFVF for almost a year now and this has been the best experience of my life. I attend classes 4 days a week and the changes I have experience over the past year have surpassed my expectations. The coaches are ALL amazing! They are friendly and extremely knowledgeable. They exemplify what it means to be leaders. The guys are great and they know there shit! With that said, they maintain a light-hearted, encouraging atmosphere, even when the workouts are kicking my ass! The other patrons of the gym are also very nice and welcoming. There is an amazing sense of comaraderie that you don't find in other fitness facilities. I attend class in the early AM and it is never too crowded. The small class size makes it feel as if you have a personal trainer. If you are considering crossfit and have access to CFVF, I would highly recommend trying them out. Again, I chose this particular gym because it was convenient to work, but I can tell you that if I ever left my job in KOP, I would still attend CFVF, eventhough I live in center city. Yes..I said it. I would still go out of my way to attend CFVF even with the horrendous traffic on 76!

Having been to 6-7 boxes, I've learned that coaches make or break the box. The coaches knew what they were talking about and were able to explain the movement mechanics well. They really focused on form and technique which is extremely important to me. The members of the box were also super friendly. Honestly, the box felt like my home box (Crossfit Central Houston) - that's how comfortable they made me feel. During my 2 weeks at CFVF, I got my first pistol, PR'ed my 5RM OHS, and climbed my first rope. I don't know if it was something in the water over there or what, but it was a solid 2 weeks of firsts. I can't wait to go back to CFVF the next time I'm in the KoP area.

Also with the intention of buying a new Ogio bag for my clubs and small walking bags for both of us. To our shock, their "master fitter" not only refused to do a fitting "because it was too close to closing time", but wouldn't even schedule a fitting for us on another day. Instead, he told me to "go ahead and try to book a time on line". I get that we were there later in the evening, but to refuse to help with a fitting, direct us towards some clubs that would work for us or to even put in the effort to schedule a time for us to come back, blows my mind! Being in sales, if a potential customer came to me and wanted to buy several high value items, the last thing I would tell them is to go away and look it up online. Getting people through the door and ready to spend money is the whole reason stores spends millions on advertising every year. This guy took that opportunity and absolutely blew it! Not only losing revenue of a returning customer for the store, but also the opportunity to outfit a new golfer who needed everything from shoes, to gear, and a whole set of clubs. We would have spent at least $3,000- $4,000 this evening, probably more, had we been given the opportunity. Instead we spent about 20 minutes browsing around, picking out the Ogio bag, the Stealth Driver, the Ping putter, the Callaway set of irons we will now purchase from another retailer before driving the 40 minutes back to our house without spending a dime in that store. Maybe it's because I'm a woman that he didn't take my business seriously. Maybe he just didn't want to actually have to do his job. Maybe he was tired or lazy or just didn't give a care. I don't really care about the why. What I do care about is where I spend my and if that retailer values my business. Clearly this guy didn't want our business this evening. I hope he has the opportunity to see this and more importantly, I hope he works on commission.

Because I only come to the studio during my 2-3 trips to PA per year, I have to pay the $17 drop in class fee. I hate that I can't buy a package that has to be used within 3 months. It annoys me that when studios force you to use your classes within a prescribed period. I supplement my gym membership with bikram yoga, so I don't go as often. The studio I go to in Phoenix doesn't let the class packages expire. I LOVE that. Kind of weird that there aren't showers given the workout. Other than that, it is a good class and good studio

I considered it to be an intense workout, but I had trouble focusing and the minutes (all 90 of them) dragged by as I shifted from pose to sweaty pose. When my boyfriend recently came home after his first Bikram class, sweaty and exhausted, I knew I had to give it a shot. Leo, one of the instructors, is a friend of ours and has been trying to persuade us to take the class for ages. I was pretty nervous when we arrived on Friday evening. Especially as I mentally prepared myself for the class ahead while trying to adjust to the 115 degree heat. The facility itself was nice, and the practice room was bright and had motivational words on the wall. My only issue was that the entire place was carpeted. It was the short kind of carpet that you usually see at shore houses, but carpet nonetheless. This freaked me out a bit since there are undoubtedly so many germs festering in the heat. The other facility I went to previously wasn't as nice (as in, no decent bathrooms or changing rooms), but it did have hard wood floors. As for the class itself, once I got through the initial breathing pose, which I've always considered to be one of the hardest, it wasn't so bad. Difficult, yes, but not impossible. I surprised myself by being able to recall most of the positions and I was able to hold my balance better than I anticipated. I'm not sure if I'll be signing up for any 30 day challenges anytime soon, but I am going to attend another class this week and see how it goes.

My first time in the class she talked down to me like a mean girl in highschool, as a full grown 40/50 year old adult. Didn't allow me to add extra blocks to make it more difficult, which I clearly needed as an athlete, as my heart rate is difficult to increase from all the cardio I already do. Class was too easy, instructor was too awful, and I would NEVER take a class at LA fitness again.

I taught classes for over 15 years and have never encountered such a miserable person whose job is to motivate. For clarity, her teaching is fine, her attitude is not. She has issues with the club management but takes it out on the (paying) students! She has literally ended class early because she's tired, hot, bothered or some other excuse. She has her favorite students and they seem to support her, but from a purely unbiased opinion, she is nothing short of horrible. The last time I took her class she again abruptly stopped. She saw disappointment in my face and directed her frustration toward me saying 'why don't get up her and teach, you have no idea how hard this is!' Actually Allyson, I would teach you under a rug and hopefully LA Fitness will soon realize they can do better than you. Good riddance to this gym!
