If you are going to stay in Virginia Beach, staying at the Marriott on the oceanfront is not a bad way of doing it. Located as part of the Cavalier Properties, which includes the historic Cavalier House, it's a solid hotel with consistent amenities you see at most Marriott Bonvoy hotels. We had a spacious room with a balcony overlooking the Atlantic, with a king-sized bed, plenty of closet space, adequate shelf and drawer space. The bathroom had a walk-in shower and a large sink area with an illuminated cosmetic mirror. If you are a Bonvoy member like me, you have complimentary WiFi, which is great since I was working remotely while in Virginia Beach. There are two year-round restaurants, one in the lobby and the other on the top floor, that are solid. The ice cream parlor has a Starbucks for those who need their daily fix. They have a parking garage for those driving from wherever their destination is. The gym is adequate, as is the heated pool, which is open year-round. I found the pricing a little high for the area and the time of year, but overall, the service and stay were on point. read more

I was disappointed with my stay at this Marriott. This was my second time staying here, and unfortunately, I experienced another issue with my room. The biggest concern was the balcony. I paid the same rates as other guests but was assigned a room with a balcony that was significantly smaller than the standard ones. It was so small that you couldn't even comfortably sit facing the ocean. I was told this was because I had a room with two beds, but that information was never disclosed when booking. Had I known, I would have chosen a different room type. What was most frustrating was the response from staff. Rather than offering a reasonable solution or any gesture of goodwill, I was told I could walk around and compare balconies in other rooms. That wasn't a solution--it simply highlighted that I had received an inferior room for the same price. I expect consistency and transparency from Marriott, especially as a returning guest. The room itself was fine, but the lack of communication and customer service surrounding this issue left me feeling like my concerns weren't valued. I hope Marriott will be more transparent about room differences in the future and do a better job of making things right when guests have legitimate concerns. read more

I NEVER LEAVE REVIEWS!!! We are currently awaiting the outcome of an open case with Marriott regarding our recent stay before deciding whether to update this review. How this situation is ultimately handled will speak volumes about Marriott's commitment to customer service. Unfortunately, our experience was incredibly disappointing from start to finish. We requested an early check-in, but instead weren't able to check in until after the normal 4:00 p.m. check-in time. We were charged nearly double what a beach cabana cost after being provided the pricing per the price sheet at the pool, along with an unexpected fee for adjoining rooms that was never disclosed during booking. We were also told that we would be allowed into the Cavalier Beach club, which that's not true either. You have to stay at the Cavalier to access that. Throughout our stay, we encountered broken ice machines, elevators that were frequently out of service, and room keys that only worked about half the time. While maintenance issues can happen, what was far more disappointing was the way they were handled. The customer service was, without question, some of the poorest our group has ever experienced. Several staff members were dismissive, rude, and made us feel as though our concerns were being minimized rather than addressed. Instead of genuine hospitality, we often felt like we were being inconvenienced simply by asking reasonable questions. The one bright spot was Orion's rooftop restaurant. The food was excellent, and Nolan provided exceptional service. He was kind, attentive, and reminded us what true hospitality should look like. He deserves recognition for the outstanding job he did. There were six of us traveling together, and sadly every single person walked away saying they would think twice before staying at another Marriott Bonvoy resort based on this experience alone. That's incredibly disappointing because we expected much more from a Marriott property. We're hopeful Marriott will review our case thoughtfully and make things right. Check-in took a long time. The entrance is shared with the embassy suites and that becomes a bottleneck for the cars to get to the parking lot- we waited for 15 mins before we could even enter the garage after a 4 hour drive. The rooms are modern and clean but rather small if you have 4 in your party. The hotel is nice with multiple (expensive) restaurants on property. They also have a private beach (kinda). The elevators are poorly coordinated and can also become a bottleneck during checkin times. They finally gave some complimentary water bottles on our last day (only) after I mentioned my status with Marriott. read more

I specifically booked and paid a premium rate for two Junior Suites with ocean views and couches. Upon arrival, I discovered that only one room met the description of a Junior Suite. The second room was not a suite at all, but a standard room with two queen beds and no couch, which is materially different from what was confirmed at booking. Additionally, neither room provided a true ocean view. Instead, the so-called "view" was a partial ocean view at best, with the primary view being the Embassy Suites building. This is not what was advertised, nor what I paid for. (see attached photos of my "ocean view") This experience was especially upsetting given the circumstances. I was traveling with my recently widowed mother, and this was meant to be a meaningful and comfortable New Year's Eve stay for us. Instead, it was stressful, disappointing, and far from the experience I intentionally selected and paid a premium to provide. I called multiple times and was assured a manager would call me back. They never did. The next day I finally got a manager who offered $75 (which I still have yet to see credited.) Checked into this hotel during my stay in Virginia Beach and this hotel is absolutely breathtaking. The oceanfront view is definitely worth the upgrade, because the views are just breathtaking . Waking up every morning to the sounds of the waves crashing and watching the sunrise here is something you must do in your life at least once. I was refreshingly surprised because I have stayed at Marriott's before, but this hotel was exceptional and one of a kind! We checked in Friday night and the staff was friendly and very accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable and the hotel itself is modern and very clean. During our stay we ordered room service from the hotel cafe, this was not great- the food was mediocre and the juices we ordered were not fresh they were bottled. The coffee was also terrible so we decided to not order room service again thereafter and ventured out to eat. I wanted to try the rooftop restaurant, the Orion, but there were no reservations available at the time of my stay which was disappointing but good to know in the future you must reserve in advance. The hotel is situated between a few other hotels and next to a beach club which you have access too. Also across the street from the historic Cavalier hotel. The area itself is gorgeous and very safe and there is parking on site with your reservation. I wish the food in the hotel was somewhat better but the overall stay was incredible and I would definitely come back just to enjoy the ocean views!!! read more

This review is not based on a hotel stay but rather than several private events I attended during the week. I did give them 5 stars despite the parking. I rolled up for a Gala in the Seaside Ballroom and was told there was no parking. I did not like that. I believe that parking is very difficult there because that garage is for hotel guests for 2 hotels and for the restaurants that locals go to such as Orions Roof and Tulu. It's just frustrating. The 1st event was outdoors and there was a live band. The food was buffet style and there was plenty of seating. It was actually the 1st time I was at the Cavalier Beach Club because it's closed to non members. I absolutely stuck my feet in the beautiful pool because I might not get another chance. It was very nice and the food was delicious. The setting is just beautiful. Going there makes me think that I am on vacation and no longer in VB. It's classy and beautiful. Wednesday I was in the Seaside Ballroom and the room is very large and easily held everyone. They had a bottle of red and white wine on the table but they also had dessert already on the table which I did not care for. The table was already so crowded. The salad was very fresh and wasn't drowned in dressing. The meat was very tender and had good flavor. It's hard to cook for a large crowd like that and it was well executed. Huge shoutout to 2 awesome bartenders.....Missy and Kevin. They were funny, friendly and just so nice!!!!! I enjoyed talking to them. Overall this is a great venue, it's classy and beautiful and the staff are incredibly friendly. My husband and I only stayed here one night on a weekday in a king bed junior suite. The hotel itself is new, modern and so beautiful. Our room was so spacious, simple, and clean! The balcony has a view of the beach, but you have to step outside and look left to see the beach. Inside the room are 2 pairs of house slippers, 2 robes, plenty of towels, toiletries in the shower and bar of soap on sink, sofa bed with extra linens, huge comfy bed, and just have to mention again how much space there was! There was a little hallway once you enter your room which I feel like spaced us away from the outside noise since our room was right by the exit. I appreciated how the parking garage is easily accessible from the lower floor rooms. The fitness center has brand new equipment - cardio machines, leg press, leg curl, bench, free weights, cable machine. Right outside on the property are beach chairs, limited seating by fireplaces, and easy access to the beach and boardwalk. Every single staff member we encountered were friendly and helpful! read more

This is a beautiful resort loaded with three interesting hotels. There is a Marriott, an Embassy Suites, and the best of them all is the historic Cavalier Hotel, which isn't part of a chain - But a single owner owns all three hotels. They have several really nice restaurants to choose from, ranging from casual and bars to a couple very nice, high-end restaurants. The service at Cavalier was outstanding! Everyone we encountered provided outstanding service! The service at the Marriott - Not so much! Too many of them felt like they were doing people a favor by being there, especially at the front desk. Checking in was completely inadequate. I don't seek being having my status acknowledged, but when they don't, I start to pay more attention to everything else they do. They simply checked me and gave me the wrist band; there was no explaining the property, giving suggestions, and they definitely didn't offer points or breakfast based on status. I had to ask if there was an M Club and that's when they told me there wasn't and provided cards for breakfast. The other, bigger issue with checking in was the horribly very long lines and only 2 counters of people checking in - craziness! Especially when you're there for a conference, like we were. The other issue was the tiny pool. This place it pretty big, with lots of rooms, and tons of people staying here, especially families. The tiny pool was packed with kids, not very relaxing for adults. The beach area was nice though, and it's nice that they give chairs on the beach for free, but they charge $30 for an umbrella - RIDICULOUS! Especially, since I saw people walk straight on the beach and take up a spot under an umbrella someone else left when leaving the beach, thus it was free for them. The room was decent, but the humidity in it was ridiculous! The air conditioner didn't seem to expel the moisture in the air, like ACs typically do, so all our clothes were damp when we got dressed and left the room. The elevators aren't temperature controlled at all and they take forever to arrive to pick up when the hotel is busy. Overall, it's a beautiful area and a very nicely decorated hotel, the management is what needs improvement. It's clearly very lax on all these employees without direction, drive, or proper execution. Unfortunately, I'm stuck having to stay here a couple more times over the next several months due to other conferences I need to attend. read more

Every venue on the property was understaffed, leading to ridiculous wait times everywhere from breakfast, to the bar, to dinner. We had a lunch reservation yesterday at their flagship restaurant, Becca, and were seated late. Then we received our food late, over an hour and a half after our reservation time. Not a single apology. They invite feedback via text, but when I brought this situation to their attention, no action was taken, and they instead said they would inform management. This is not luxury. We bailed on our Easter brunch reservation today to avoid another disaster. We've stayed here and at the Historic Cavalier several times, including multiple Easter weekends, but this weekend will probably be our last. read more

We stayed at this property this past weekend and really enjoyed it. The staff is literally some of the friendliest that I have ever encountered. Whatever training you are giving them - keep it up! The hotel was clean and inviting. Shout out to the housekeeping staff - you all are GREAT!! The onsite restaurant, Tulu, was surprisingly tasty with a good atmosphere and service. The attached parking garage was convenient. I would definitely stay here again. Downfall: There is a rooftop bar/restaurant, Orion's Roof, that I didn't love, but seemed to be quite popular. The hostess staff was not inviting and we were told the bar top was seat yourself, but the tables around it were seated by the hostess. The bar top was full, but there were many tables open in the bar. We put our name in for a table. After waiting about 20 minutes (even though there were only 2 of us and there were at least 5 open tables), we were finally seated at one of the many open tables to only have the bartender/server seem disappointed we only wanted drinks. Gorgeous location, we had a king suite with ocean view. I loved everything about the hotel, nice quieter location than some of the other hotels down the boardwalk- upscale, plus close to the historic Cavalier across street with fine dining. My only problem is the Marriott added additional charges after check out. I noticed two separate $5 charges on my credit card, and when I called few days after check out the hotel front desk said it was for "Figi waters in the room". I informed the hotel rep that we didn't use the room waters and she said she would refund the charge. Easy fix, wonderful. Well 10 days I did not receive the credit, called back, spent time on hold and then again on hold while they "looked into it". No record or note that I called 10 days prior, now they "opened a case" and will respond in 72 hours. To be honest, it's not worth my time to continue to inquire about $10 in false water charges. It just seems shady to me, I think they try to scam folks by adding charges thinking people spending significant amounts of money at the resort would not notice. I just so happened to notice and very disappointed in the lack of follow through by the hotel. We have another trip planned for this summer and will be staying at the Cavalier or maybe the Oceanfront Embassy suites next door instead. read more

The elevators are a problem. The venerable room key card has been replaced by a "bracelet", which you also need to operate the elevator to get to a floor with rooms. Poorly designed building and not maintained well. There are only four elevators total, and they service both the hotel floors and the parking deck. During peak traffic on weekends you could be waiting 20-30 min for an elevator. If you're on the parking level and need to go up to your room, the elevators coming up from the lobby are so full that you'll never be able to get on. You have to go down to the lobby and then come back up -- doubling your wait time. Also not enough bell hops, and front desk doesn't know where bell hops are, so you're carrying all your luggage yourself while you wait in line for the elevator. Management comped me some fees in exchange for the miserable check-in experience, but no amount of management will solve the problem that there just aren't enough elevators for a hotel of this size. There also other minor inconveniences like one of our room keys not consistently working across the property, even though we had it programmed twice. Pool door was also out of commission but no sign up telling people. It's not the worst hotel I've stayed at, but it's also not even close to a "resort" experience. The pool areas are nice and proximity to the beach is great, but overall it's overpriced for a mid tier property. read more

From the customer service , to the room was amazing !! We got ice cream every night at ice cream shoppe , nice gentleman served us every night . My only complaint is you have access to lots of restaurants but the menu seems the same. By the 3rd night we were leaving the resort to get more of a variety . Even the salad all had the same dressings. The restaurant on roof is Asian fusion which is a nice change but not my thing . The deck restaurant was closed during the days we were there and it did have a different menu , so that would have been nice . But that won't keep us away we will definitely return !! read more

It is a 3 star because of their cancellation policy. 3 days is ridiculous for business travelers. I was also under the impression they have an M club and they do not. The embassy across the street is probably a better option for the price but it is owned by the same people so keep that in mind. I have stayed at the Hilton down the road and it is better than either IMO. The parking is not cheap but easy to navigate and connects to the elevator lobby is right there. I did get an oceanfront room, 2128 and it was gorgeous with a wrap around balcony. Nice bathroom and it was crazy to wake up to the view of the ocean. You do hear the jets unfortunately but that is the whole bloody Norfolk around. The breakfast was good, they had the usual items and made-to-order egg options. Where do I start... Vacation mode on. This hotel in my opinion is a 5 star resort! It has everything you could ever need on a family or bae-cation which includes the beach, 2 pools and more . It's giving high end and luxury throughout the facility. First when you arrive at the front of the hotel you are greeted by the door man who gives you a warm welcome. As you walk into the hotel to the left there is We scream and Starbucks , and a cute little gift shop. I love how the gift shop has cute little souvenirs and things to take back home from your vacation. In my opinion it makes your vacation experience more memorable taking a little something home. Walking into the reception desk area there's fresh fruit water and employees that are so kind and helpful to help you get checked into to your room. My favorite amenity is the indoor pool which is heated and the outdoor pool. The outdoor pool features large doors that opens up, the outdoor pool backs up to the beach. The bathrooms are clean and has led mirrors which is a plus for me . There is two lovely restaurants located in the hotel , "Orion roof top" and "Tulu". Not only is the experience and the ambience is up to par but the quality and service the staff gives. I believe the staff is what makes your vacation special and everyone that I've ran into has been super informative about local eateries and things to do such as the spa located at the Cavalier. Our company had our annual December Sales training and Holiday/Christmas party here so I got to spend Saturday through Saturday at this resort. The Christmas decor was splendid and done very classy. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the service whether in the restaurants, the maid service or front desk was great and genuinely friendly people! A standout to me was the Doorman / Concierge guy Doug. Always very helpful and personable and quick with area info and suggestions. This is a fairly new Marriott propert. While it is new, it is clearly well known by the groves of guest checking in/out daily. What is very nice about the hotel is the onsite amenities. The roof top bar and lobby bars are great. The beach bars are fun and scenic. You are just steps away from sand and ocean. The rooms are very nice. I was upgraded to a King Corner Suite. The views were spectacular. The rooms were cleaned daily. The lobby was well maintained. The gym was a good size. It had a good variety of equipment. But this hotel is very expensive as it sits on the beach. Other than that, it can be fun for all. Will definitely visit here again. read more

If I could give it a 0, I would. Cleaning staff left medicine and cleaning supplies in the room (found by a 9m old and 7 year old). Crumbs were left behind on the beds after "cleaning", door was broken and locked 3 people inside the room and took multiple hours to fix, water pressure sucked and in one room only came out scorching hot, toilet wouldn't flush in another room, the "free" beach chairs are only permitted in the back rows behind the paid for chairs (this was never explained and we had multiple people with disabilities). All the activities were booked. Staff was rude. Like straight up rude. The restaurant was adding tips without telling customers, and the "ocean view" could only be seen from the balcony directly facing the ocean. Elevator closed one 1 person with disabilities. The crib took hours to be brought to the room after being told it would be there hours earlier. It's been 3 weeks and I'm still waiting for the compensation that was agreed on with staff (they told us 1 thing and did another). Stay anywhere but this hotel. read more

This is hands down the cleanest oceanfront hotel I have ever experienced and it definitely feels more like a resort. There was a little confusion with our room at check in because, to be quite frank, the website is slightly deceiving. "Ocean View" is not the same as "Oceanfront" and I quickly saw that when we went into our room, BUT the front desk associate was so kind and helpful. She switched us to an oceanfront room because (and this is absolutely a first world issue, but) I want to see the ocean from my bed when I stay at the beach. I deserve an all ocean view especially at nearly $500 a night. The guest services associate even moved us up to the highest floor and the views were gorgeous. She and I enjoyed a really nice chat, too, because she noticed my guinea pig novelty bag and we began discussing our pets. :) Orion's rooftop dining in this Marriott was enjoyable with the spectacular ocean views. The service was perfectly fine and the prices were decent but I would have liked more plant based options to suit my preferences/eating style. The main level hotel restaurant had more favorable choices. If we ever return to VA Beach, we will certainly stay here again. We all especially loved the cleanliness of this hotel. :) In fact, I did a search for "cleanest VA Beach hotel" and this Marriott came up based on the many reviews.
