From what I read, the park used to be an old airport back in the 60s. It now has fields for football & baseball, as well as a basketball court. When driving in, I saw that they had some batting cages concessions. The race itself was held on an asphalt track that looped to make the 3.1 miles. The race itself was fun, especially that I ran it with a couple of friends in a group. Besides a DJ who played DJ Laz's "Esa Morena" along with Christmas music, they were also serving lechón and pannetone as complementary bites. There was also a photo op with Santa. Where the race could have been a little better organized was in the track condition. Even though this was a night run, there was no lighting other than the runners glow sticks among the course, and with the speed bumps on the asphalt, myself and at least one or two other runners almost tripped. They also had a couple of cones in the middle of the asphalt track.

This park is in need of some major renovations. Everywhere you look you see rusty fences, poor…read morelandscaping, rough roads and parking lots. It's shocking, because just next door is the beautiful FIU grounds. I can't understand why the city doesn't clean this place up, especially for all the children that come here to play and participate in sports. I strongly suggest checking out other parks if you're looking for a nice walk or relaxing on the grass, such as the beautiful ones in Doral.

The park features a skate park with ramps, basketball courts, outdoor fitness equipment, tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, soccer fields, and more. In 2024, the community center underwent a complete renovation and received a 3,000-square-foot expansion. Improvements included a new main hall, upgraded multipurpose rooms with technology, and a kitchenette with new appliances. Additional upgrades included a new roof, doors, windows, flooring, plumbing, lighting, utility systems, and walkways. The center now hosts numerous activities, including seasonal camps, after-school programs, youth basketball and soccer leagues, arts and cultural classes, and structured programs for youth and families throughout the year. In 2025, the playground was completely replaced with a whimsical nature-inspired play area featuring climbing structures, slides, swings, and interconnected walking paths. The park also added a fenced in splash pad, a new basketball court with energy-efficient sports lighting, and bleachers for spectators. The new playground looks loke so much fun. During my visit, I even saw adults relaxing in the netted area at the top of the climbing structure. My favorite feature of the park, however, was the network of walking paths. As i made my way through the park, I spotted numerous butterflies as well as chickens with their adorable chicks. I had an amazing afternoon at North Trail Park.

You wouldn't know it at first glance. It looks like another well-manicured park with banyans throwing shade and benches full of locals scrolling their phones. But scratch the surface, and you find the bones of George Merrick's original Coral Gables dream. This was one of the first public gathering spaces Merrick laid out in the 1920s, back when he was building his "City Beautiful" with Mediterranean arches, fountains, and bougainvillea climbing like nature's graffiti. Ponce Circle Park was his town square, his living room, the place where his grand experiment in urban planning could breathe. It's history hidden in plain sight, smack on Ponce de Leon Boulevard, where old Florida ambition met the Spanish fantasy Merrick peddled to investors. Over the years, it's been everything from a quiet neighborhood lawn to the stage for farmers markets, festivals, and concerts. Coral Gables residents grew up chasing lizards here, picnicking here, staging community drama productions here. The banyan trees standing guard are older than half the buildings in Miami. They've seen hurricanes, weddings, protests, and more first dates than Tinder. What I love about it is the scale. In a city where everything screams bigger, newer, taller, Ponce Circle Park whispers. It's human-sized. You can sit on the grass and hear the jazz spilling out of Miracle Mile, or wander the farmer's market in winter and pretend you live in some Mediterranean village instead of hurricane alley. It's also one of those rare Miami-area parks that doesn't feel like it's been overrun or overdesigned. No theme-park polish, no Instagram playground. Just a square of history, culture, and community--simple, beautiful, alive.

He placed it in the Crafts Section of town. The park was designed to showcase the craftspeople of Coral Gables, potters, sculptors, artists, and furniture makers. Studios were planned for the park with the artists living nearby in the surrounding residential section. Merrick's vision was never fully realized but the open space remained in the heart of the downtown. On November 8, 1994, the Coral Gables City Commission renamed the park Fred B. Hartnett Ponce Circle Park. Fred B. Hartnett (1901-1995) was a Coral Gables Commissioner and a former mayor of Coral Gables (1955-1957). He moved to Coral Gables from New York in 1925 and was an active civic participant in the formation of the city. Among his many accomplishments, he was a founding member of the Church of the Little Flower, the Coral Gables Jaycees, and the Country Club of Coral Gables. Today George Merrick would be surprised by the towering buildings and construction that have sprung up around his little park. If you visit the today it park has a walking path, historical sign, markers, benches, and a fountain. There is open space to play and stage events. The City of Goral Gables is currently contemplating improvements to the park.

Westbrook Park is a 2.5-acre community park located in the Westchester neighborhood of Miami, 10…read moremiles west of downtown. Once consisting largely of swamp land, the area was transformed after the construction of drainage canals in 1907, becoming prime real estate by the 1920s. Following World War II, Westchester experienced significant growth as returning soldiers purchased homes using low-interest financing guaranteed by the U.S. Veterans Administration. Today, the neighborhood is known for its well-kept homes and convenient location near major expressways, hospitals, Florida International University (FIU), and Miami International Airport. While driving through Westchester, I spotted Westbrook Park and decided to stop and take a look. The park features a playground, a grilling area with picnic tables, benches, and open space for recreation and exercise. I visited in the early evening and especially appreciated the solar-powered lighting system. A 1,300-foot paved walkway winds through the park and is illuminated by 78 bollard lights. The system is powered by electricity generated from five solar panel stations located throughout the park. The lighted pathway makes it inviting for a stroll. Westbrook Park is a well kept neighborhood green space that is an example of how improvements can enhance a community park.

There is also a beach park named in his honor in Fort Pierce. This rural part of unincorporated Southwest Miami-Dade is called the Hammocks and Sugarwood is one of the neighborhoods in the Hammocks. Sugarwood Park has a .3 mile lighted loop walking path, basketball courts, playground, benches, and tot lot. There is also a fitness court that features five pieces of easy to use, low impact gym equipment designed for cardio and strength training and even wheelchair workouts. Landscaping in the park includes butterfly attracting plants. This park is great recreational spot for families and people looking to exercise in South Miami.

Overall, this is a nice park to take a stroll, play some bball, or take kids on the playground.

Bill Kerdyk Park has ample green area for family picnics, children to run around, and just to enjoy a day in the sun. A really cool feature of the park is the solar bench where you can charge your electronic devices. The kids playground area has been recently renovated. The shaded playground has a 2-5 year old area and a 5-12 year old area. It also has a climbing wall. The park also has a large pavilion that can be rented for private events, paved walkways, large shade trees, and outdoor fitness equipment. I found the park clean and well maintained. This is a wonderful place to play to play and exercise in the City Beautiful.
