To thank the couple for their gift, Fewell Park was created in their honor. A resident of Coral Gables for over 70 years, Robert Fewell served in the Navy during WWII. He graduated from the law school at the University of Miami and opened his first offices on Miracle Mile. As his business grew Mr. Fewell donated money to athletics at U of M and to it's school of medicine. He also donated money to the Douglas Road and Miracle Mile Archways and he gave 2 million dollars for the construction of The Robert and Marian Fewell wing at the Coral Gables Museum. For all of his contributions to Coral Gables, Robert J. Fewell was the recipient of the 6th Annual George E. Merrick Award of Excellence. Although this park is small, a respite of nature is always appreciated. Park amenities include pathways, benches, and a bike rack. I imagine that you could have an epic Easter egg hunt here. This type of mini park arose from a desire in communities to have places for kids to play instead of another building or wasted vacant land. This small park is located on the north fork of the Miami River which drains out of the Everglades and runs 5.5 miles through downtown Miami before ending at the Miami Canal at Miami International Airport to Biscayne Bay. The park and this area of Miami takes it's name from when the river was in its natural, unaltered state. The river used to have rapids formed by water from the Everglades flowing over a rocky ledge four miles from its mouth. The rapids were removed when the Miami Canal was dredged in an attempt to drain the wetland. The park is just down the street from the $750 million dollar Tides and Moorings at River Rapids, a two building, 593 unit development being built. Next to the park is the Miami Bridge Youth and Family Services, Miami's only 24 hour/ 7 day a week youth shelter and family crisis center. The park has a basketball hoop, tables and chairs, and a sand volleyball court for use by the children being serviced by the center.

He became the first African American landowner when he purchased 6500 SW 60th Avenue in Larkins. In 1916, Williamson donated land for the St John's AME Church, one of Larkins' first churches at 6461 SW 58th Place. Later, Williamson also donated land for the JRE Lee School. Standing at only 5'4" Williamson was affectionately as the "Little Mayor" of the community for his business acumen and generosity which improved the lives of the people living here. The neighborhood became known as Madison Square after Williamson's hometown. Williamson passed away in 1972. Today the 3.22 acre Marshall Williamson Park is a valuable recreational resource for urban South Miami. Park amenities include a picnic area, gazebo, playground and tot lot, restrooms, and two tennis courts. This neighborhood park is the ideal place to take the kids to enjoy the outdoors. Participate in a game of tennis or play on the newly renovated playground. The park also has a meeting room for small gatherings. It opened in 1939 as Hunter Lyon Park, named after a wealthy insurance executive, sportsman, and race horse owner with connections to Hialeah Race Track. In 1944 the name of the park was changed to honor Benny Babcock, a Hialeah resident who enlisted in the Marines in 1940. He became the first Hialeah resident to be killed in action at the age of 22 during World War II at Guadalcanal on November 2, 1942. Today Babcock Park is a generous 18.5 acres filled with amenities beloved by generations of the community. These include two lighted tennis courts, seven youth baseball fields, two lighted indoor racquetball courts, two lighted basketball courts, a newer covered playground, community swimming pool, out door exercise equipment, recreation building, LHB baseball training academy, the Curtiss Library, and police substation. I enjoyed the paved walking trail that winds throughout the park. With its deep roots in the community, generations grew up in Hialeah with fond memories of Babcock Park. It continues to bring people together today for games, swimming, play, and outdoor recreation.

The land was then sold for mixed use redevelopment. Across the road the four Trump National Doral courses are still open for play. This park opened on May 4, 2022. It was designed with input from area residents. A highlight of the park is the shade covered imaginative golf themed playground. There are spinners, swings, climbing structures, and slides including a corkscrew. I love that the playground has a soft artificial turf to protect knees and bottoms. The park also has outdoor fitness stations, a multi- purpose green space area, fenced dog area, restrooms, practice putting green, and picnic shelters and tables. Landscape lighting with overhead and walkway lighting and security cameras were also added to the park. Another feature is a boardwalk that connects this park to the Downtown Doral Parking Lot. A Doral sign added to the park was a gift from the Miami Association of Realtors. This park is a tranquil retreat from the stress of everyday life. I enjoyed walking through the park while taking in the beautiful landscaping and visiting birds. This park is an important space for the people living in the high rise mixed use development. Doral White Course Park is a safe and convenient place to take the kids and dogs to play, work out and exercise on the free equipment, or just have a picnic.

The park also includes a little butterfly garden area. The butterflies are mostly seen during Spring time. Additionally, they have a pavilion to rent for parties and a little playground for the kids. I had been wanting to go try out this park with my small dog for a long time. Today, I finally had…read morethe opportunity to take him and check it out. Before making the drive, I saw on the apple maps that it was a "pets welcome" park. Upon arriving at the park I had just began my walk when an old white woman (seemed to be a park employee) advised me that pets were not allowed in the park. She asked if my dog was a service animal and he was not wearing his vest at the time but I let her know he was actively in training and she began to interrogate me on whether I had bags to pick up his poop (which I did and showed her) and let me know that people will complain about him being in the park. During my ONE lap around the park, I was told to leave after we finished one singular lap. I actually had 2 positive interactions with different park visitors acknowledging my dog in a very happy manner. The park employee seemed to be the only one bothered by myself and my dog being there. We were not bothering anybody, we were practicing his training, and instead of harassing me, she should've been focused on all of the duck poop that coats the sidewalk. It is impossible to even walk in a straight line without having to worry about stepping in a fresh puddle of duck poop. She admitted that people bring their dogs to the park all the time, why were we treated so poorly as if we also don't have a right to simply take a walk around the lake? I even attached the picture stated that the park is pet welcoming. This has never happened to us before in any other park regardless of whether there are no pets allowed signs or not.

He also served as chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee for nine years. He was well known for supporting the creation of Biscayne National Park which was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968. The visitor center in the park is named in honor of Representative Fascell as is this park. Although this is a small park, it has a lot of amenities including a playground, outdoor fitness equipment, open recreation space, a pavilion, BBQ pits, tennis and volleyball courts, and an exercise trail. My favorite part of the park was all of the public art. Dante Fascell Park is the home of the Columbia Sculpture Garden which currently has six installations. There is also a large sculpture of a nude woman by the playground that was created by local artist Donald Lee Seiler. A naked lady is kind of an odd choice to stick in a kids playground but it is a cool art piece. As I walked around I admired all of the large shade trees and beautiful native flowers in the park. This is the ideal place for a picnic, play, exercise, fresh air, and culture and it is a unique community treasure in South Miami.
