It is the first time that I visited this gallery. I stopped by with the intention of going to see the exhibition at the Womanhouse and I could not be sure (I did not ask either) if they rotate or change the gallery's exhibition. Next time you visit Belén, make a quick stop here! It shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes to walk around the gallery if you stop to read the texts and look what to shop.

The hotel, built in 1923 by Clem "Pop" Shaffer has been recently purchased and is currently being restored to its former glory. The Hotel is on target to open in the Spring of 2020. We have Santa Fe, the "City Different", home to painters, sculptors and other artists the world over who thrive (even in a recession), and the town houses its share of artists who practice artisan athletics, music, meditation, what have you. We have Taos and the surrounding communes, wherein you'll find celebrated maestros, architects and off-the-grid nomads; if you haven't driven west toward the gorge, put it on your travel to-do list, you won't be disappointed. Key word: earth ships. Silver City: artisan hideout. Same goes for Tularosa, Cloudcroft, Los Ojos, Red River, Jemez, Zuni, San Antonio... I could go on and on. These are the sneaky peeks, the places where funky personas with wild ideas relocate, where they can live in relative calm, bask under endlessly open skies, where they often create grand visionary works that encompass the entirety of their lifetime journeys. O'Keefe did the same at Ghost Ranch. Personally, I love bumping into a gallery or a store along my travels, where these fascinating people will find a few minutes for some straight talk about their work. I've found them in corners of the state I never imagined they could exist, but they do, they persist, and I'm always thrilled to find them. I often wonder how they survive. Surely, selling the occasional canvass to the wandering traveler won't pay the rent. Enter Mariposa, a gallery in the heart of Nob Hill which showcases 90%+ local artists. Paintings, mixed-media and a smattering of jewelry provide welcome access to some of the most vital artists in the New Mexico realm. This place focuses on artists who remain just below the radar, who could use a little financial backing. The business has grown with time, changing locations twice, and over the years they've developed a long list of artists who've benefited from their publicity and advocacy and now give back, promoting the next generation. Fantastic. You don't have to visit with the intent of a purchase. Come and devour with your eyes. You won't forget it.

They have a great collection of diverse art, all showcasing the local talent, scenery and culture of the Land of Enchantment. They focus on New Mexico scenes and artists heavily here. It's a long list of talented local artists that they're showing off in different media. They have a great collection of paintings, pottery, clocks, knickknacks, and tchotchkes. My favorite stuff was the paintings of New Mexico in the wintertime, or of the Sandia Mountains. The staff was very welcoming, and answered questions about the works. They have a friendly white dog that's eager to greet any customers and make sure you see the art! The prices were reasonable for the quality of work that you're getting. Most of the stuff wasn't impulse buys, but something that you'd proudly display on your mantle of your southwestern home. Parking can be difficult, since it's on the Albuquerque main drag, Central Ave. There's metered parking out front.

The decor is nice, they even have a cool display outside, the whole facade is renovated in great taste. The customer service is good, the lady working here was very welcoming, prices are high, but it's a great place to check out some art, take a break, cool off it's hot outside. Indigo Gallery is in the middle of downtown, you won't miss it!

The originals paintings by Ms Schwaiko are all expensive (for us) but the prints are much more reasonable and reachable. The person we were visiting in NM had a print and it is stunning. I loved the sculptures the most. Small as well as some quite large ones displayed in the back garden. We picked up a small sculpture that we could not resist. Jane Cassidy, an artist whose work is displayed in the gallery as well, was very gracious and friendly to us. She showed us around the gallery and spoke about Jill's work extensively. We did not know she was one of the artists having a work displayed there until I mentioned how much I liked a piece in the window on the way out of the gallery, LOL. A piece that was very tempting as well. Madrid is well worth a visit if you are in NM, and the Indigo gallery should definitely be visited.

They have about 25+/- regular artist, who work in all sorts of mediums, jewelry, oils, glass, photography, and mixed medias. The artists alsowork in the gallery, so you get an artist perspective, when your chatting with folks. Right now they have a show, where the regular artists are showing and each has brought an invited guest. This show runs till about 8/27/13. But, right now is a great time to see the works of about 50 different artist (give or take), all in one stop. The next show starts on 8/29.
