I would give a zero if I could. Doug is a good salesman, but his laborers are incompetent, the work shoddy and incomplete, and he doesn't back up his talk or his contract. Doug was very attentive during the sales process and getting his first two checks then completely scammed us. He presented us with a fake "paid" invoice from a supplier and the crew barely showed up. We ended up parting ways and getting someone great who had to redo everything that Doug's crew did because they did such a terrible job. Stay away from this guy ... he's bad bad news. read more

A few years ago, I reached out to Martin Lawn Service to install a patio in my backyard, which they did and I liked. But after a few days I noticed issues: stones were sinking and uneven stone. His guys came out and fixed it, but I am not happy with the price I paid that they seem to be sinking again!! Fast forward to this year, 2022, I met with Doug regarding adding two 4' (at least) spruce trees and mulch to my house and a second large landscaping project at my second property. He gave me a quote and mentioned that he would need 1/2 the money upfront, which was normal. For the project at my house, his guys came out and added mulch to a small area and removed the 2 dead spruce trees. Then it took them like 3-4 weeks to plant two new spruce trees, which ended up only being like 2' high, which I was not happy as what he quoted me with was where the trees were to be at least 4' high, from the picture he text me!!!! Now to the large landscaping project at my second property. Doug mentioned that they would start and complete this large project at the end of April this year. So he stopped out, collected 1/2 the money and we had a date set. Well the date came and went, phone calls and texts went by without any reply. Then FINALLY, Doug got back with several excuses as to why the job was being rescheduled over and over again! I give people the benefit of the doubt, but after several months of this project not being done I asked for my money back. Well he deducted money for the job at my house, which is fine except he OVERCHARGED me for the two 2' spruce trees and a small amount of mulch! Then when I asked about the refund amount he kept giving me excuses why he was overcharging me for the little job at my house. I didn't get what he quoted me for or what I paid for!!! Because of these reasons I would NOT recommend Martin Lawn Service!! read more

We had a large inground pool and beautiful surrounding stamped concrete installed in the fall of 2018. We hired Martin's in the spring of 2019 to do our yard grading, replanting of grass, ornamental shrubs and a paver patio and fireplace adjacent to the pool area. While they did do the work in a timely manner, we did NOT get what we paid for and what they did do was done poorly. My issues are: 1) We paid for topsoil in the newly graded back yard. We got a skim coat at best and some areas were left as graded clay and rock. 2) We paid for grass but nothing but clover took hold (due to soil quality). 3) The "flagstone" walkway he installed to our gate was nothing but garbage irregulary and anything but flat rocks he probably pulled out of the ground at another job site. 4) The patio we had installed sunk below the level of the concrete it was butted up against. They came and "fixed" this the next year but it has since sunk another 2 or 3 inches. 5) The stonework on the fireplace is a joke. The cap stones are cut irregularly and we have one tiny sliver at the end of each run (rather than starting from the middle and having equal cut pieces at each end - a technique that literally ANYONE with any experience with block or tile would use). 6) Because the patio sunk, our fire pit is cracking and pulling apart. 7) This is the BIGGEST issue... A drain should have been installed between the paving stones and concrete. It was not. Now that sinking patio is causing water to run directly to and under the adjacent concrete walkway that runs against our pool. The concrete is sinking due to the void the water is creating below, has developed a stress crack and will need repaired at our expense. Do not give a dime of your hard earned money to this shyster. He talks a good game but his employees are unskilled and will not deliver the agreed upon work. When you have an issue Doug will not reply or make good on the work he agreed to do in the first place. read more

My experience with Doug Martin Landscaping is one of the worst I've had with any contractor. We contracted to have a partially covered patio and retaining wall completed on a new home build. Contract was signed in April 2022, and it has been the definition of over-promise and under-deliver. We were told work would start at the latest July 18th, 2022 but Doug threw in that there was a great chance it would start by the 4th of July. The contract says the project should take 3 weeks, and Doug assured it would be a max of 6 with any possible delays. Work began on August 25th and has stopped for the the last month. At this point, the project might be 1/2 complete. There has been no contact from Doug for a month, and it's become pretty clear that he had no intention of finishing the project. I believe he underquoted the job from the start with no intention to finish, just to take some of my money and run after the easier part of the job was done. read more

I engaged with Martin Lawn Services (Doug) in April, 2022 and provided a 1/3 deposit of $4,150.00. Work was to start by 9/1/22. Long story short, always gave excuses and strung me out. Ghosted me for several weeks in the fall. He finally agreed to refund my deposit late November 2022 when it was obvious he would never start the work. Then he blamed his accountant. Doug has never returned the deposit. He will string you out and is extremely dishonest and unethical. Doug did nothing and owes me $4,150.00. read more

This guy is a low life. Think twice about giving him your hard earned money. Paid over 2k for cement curbing around house and beds, which are guaranteed by him. There was a problem, whether it was operator error or product, I'm not sure. Doug came back said they all need replaced, then wouldn't return messages. His employee that ran this machine finally came back and only replaced a portion. Once again, would not return calls. Reached out to BBB, they reached out to Doug twice, no response. This lowered his rating on their website. I only want what I paid for, nothing more, nothing less. Do not give him your business! read more

Just had these guys come over to put a couple lighted retaining walls in and dig out crappy old mulch to replace with new mulch and stone. They did a fabulous job and had very nice, hard working guys doing the job. Doug, the owner, was fabulous to deal with and we will be sure to call them when we want to do more landscaping!! read more

I need to start by saying that I have had 3 houses built, have had several remodels done, and had several major projects done at the many houses I have owned. I have had many excellent contractors, a few average, and some poor ones. I have never had any nearly as bad as Martin Landscaping. I didn't even think it was possible to be this bad and stay in business. My patio was supposed to be started on May 17 and completed before June 12 in time for my daughter's wedding at which time I was having out of town guests. The partially roofed patio was actually started on June 7 and completed on December 14 with some items never actually ever completed. In other words, the job was supposed to take 27 days but actually took 189 days. Based on the contract requirement that lawn damage was to be repaired, the job has never been completed. During the construction period the contractor caused massive damage to my lawn which previously was near perfect. This was the result of running a track excavator through the yard and getting a truck stuck which caused ruts that were 4 inches deep. The ruts have been mainly filled in. To try to help remedy the situation, I placed a second contract to have an expansion done on the patio with the hope that the lawn would be repaired afterward. The expansion went fine but the lawn repair is a disaster. They were to bring in topsoil and replant grass. They did put down dirt and plant some amount of grass seed that never grew. On March 30, I showed the company owner the poor planting workmanship. He agreed it was unacceptable and said he would come the next week and bring topsoil and seed. He never showed up and has not responded to emails. Two days after they planted the grass seed, I planted grass seed in a different area that came up after 2 weeks and began to flourish. Since none of the grass they had planted had come up I consulted an expert. I was told that the dirt that was used was actually fill dirt probably from a site that had been excavated. Tired of wasting my time and recognizing I was not going to get what I wanted (A lush lawn like I had before the damage they had done), I contracted to have the grass replanted. When the fill dirt was removed, I was told no seeds were found which could be because the seed was spread on the ground, not raked in, and not covered with mulch and may have been eaten by birds. On the southside of the patio roof the downspout was left to run out onto the ground. I was warned by the building inspector that this would be a problem. Heretofore, I have tried extending the downspout and putting a roll-up extension on the downspout both of which failed. I have now been told that the downspout should have been run into the drain on the northeast side of the roof. I now have the choice of excavating and running pipe to that drain, or putting a drywell in my yard in which to run the downspout. Now that the patio is 6 months old and has begun to be used, some pavers are lifting and some are sinking. I have been told that this is the result of an inconsistent base. This problem may require me to seek some sort of repair if it worsens. In summary, I selected Martin Landscaping to build my patio because they were the only contractor that said they could complete it by the date of my daughter's wedding. That date was missed by more than 6 months. Along the way, I was continuously given dates and told things that did not happen. Although I am not per se dissatisfied with the patio and roof, the completion period was beyond reasonable. I am very unhappy with the condition of my yard and have encountered several hundred dollars of additional expense to try to get it back to normal and am still not close. To correct the water drainage problem will likely cost several hundred more dollars and possibly thousands. As a disabled senior citizen I have had to attempt to correct several problems they have created and have had to hire others to help me. I can honestly say this has been by far the most painful construction project in which I have ever had any involvement and highly recommend that you not contract with this company. read more

Initially, they were great in coming out in a timely fashion, but after the first few services, the lawn never looked freshly cut, like it was very hastily done. Toward the end of our experience, I was questioning they had even shown up on the days they said they had come because our lawn did not look any different. We asked them to cut the yard every other week and would receive invoices for services performed every week instead, even though it never appeared like anything had been done. Calls and emails to inquire about this were never returned or took a week or more to respond with the response "Well, that's what my records show". We paid the last invoice as legal action wasn't worth the trouble, and asked them to discontinue service. In summary, I would not recommend them unless you're going to be home to supervise the service, and at that point, you may as well do it yourself. read more

Contact was signed beginning of May2020 for work to begin 1Jun2020. The work was to install a paver patio, shed base and 375 linear ft fence. They were two jobs that were supposed to happen simultaneously with two different crews from 9am until 6pm. The total duration for the work was five days. The patio crew didn't arrive until 4Jun2020 and the majority of the work was completed 15Jun2020. There are still minor issues that need resolved such as replacing the top step, gluing the top step, installing slim cut stone pavers next to steps, fill in poly blend, removing glue from the pavers and gluing the fire pit pavers. The dirt from this job was left on our property and never hauled away by the company. The small amount of dirt that they did haul away they dumped in the woods behind our house.The fence was started 16Jun2020 at 5:30pm by one guy who worked 2 hours that day. He came back Wednesday the 17th and worked 1 hour and Thursday the 18th and worked 1.5 hours. On Thursday he informed us that our yard is too hard to drill holes through and he would need a different machine. He also informed us he is just a friend of the owner and not an employee and has a day job as a machinist so he will never work 9 am until 6 pm. Supposedly he has ordered a machine from California but has no estimated delivery or information on one work will resume at our residence. Large pile of broken pallets with rusty nails sticking out were left on my driveway with no regard to us having toddlers. When timelines slipped, we were still promised by the very latest all work would be done by 19Jun2020 as we were having an outside party on the 20th. This did not occur. We message time and time again and very seldom get responses. read more
