Surrounded on all sides by ugly aging high rises, this spot is literally an oasis with soaring views, a beautiful pool and a private walk down to the expansive golden beach. For beauty alone it almost merits 5 stars. B cause of the elegance and stature, I find I hold these types of places to a VERY HIGH standard. In addition to the historic building there are 24 rooms in a much newer wing just to the west and below and in back of the pool. Our room was 202 on the lower level and had a partial view of the ocean. What I liked: -whimsical nautical color scheme in the comfy modern room that was up to date in every way from power outlets to fixtures -outstanding service culture and helpful young man, Goncealo Rico who checked us in and showed us around and helped us out during our stay-even arranged to go up to the secret rooftop for a peak-great view -sumptuous breakfast buffet with all the typical European items and eggs cooked to order -views from the nice pool-the hotel is right in the center above the beach on a tall cliff -beach access from the hotel is very easy and the spa provides you with a beach bag to use during your visit with towels and water. -immaculate grounds and facilities-rooms very clean as well. -nice quiet A/C- got room nice and cool for sleeping What surprised/disappointed me given the caliber (and price) of the property and the newness of our room: -size of the shower-while the bath is a reasonable size despite a modest room size, the narrow tub/shower with half wall of glass just isn't my favorite making it not only tricky to get clean but also hard to keep from splashing water all over the bathroom floor-unfortunately these are common throughout Europe -not a fan of the €4 potato chips and €10 bottles of designer water-so many high-end places have eliminated these silly expenses-wish they would too. Despite my small annoyances this is a first class property with a strong service culture and a great staff. I wouldn't hesitate to return.

I stayed here with a group of friends for a week recently. It was a fantastic destination! 4 rooms…read morewith great ensuites; 2 double and 2 twin. They also let us add a single bed to one of the rooms so an extra guest could stay. The Villa has a huge living room with a big U-shaped sofa and marble floors throughout. It also has a dining area which leads into a decent sized kitchen with a mammouth fridge. Best of all though, is the pool and outside area (which is where you will spend most of your time if the weather is as good as it was for us). The marble continues, keeping the ground cool even under the hottest sun, there is a large patio area under cover so that you can eat lunch in the shade, and a lovely kidney-shaped pool. There are 8 sun loungers with waterproof mattresses and the plastic patio table could sit 10 comfortably. There are also a couple of good BBQs for use. The paintings and fake flowers inside are a little naff, but somehow add to the charm of the place. The beds are comfortable and the rooms stay pretty cool. Mosquitoes didn't seem to be a problemthere were quite a lot of ants outside, but they were rarely found in the villa. Carvoeiro itself (a small fishing village a 15 minute walk or a quick drive down the hill) was a little touristy for my tastes, but still contained a few decent restaurants and was useful for buying flipflops and lilos etc. There are plenty of other beaches and towns nearby though, and also a big supermarket and a few different water parks. On the way down to the beach in Carvoeiro is a small square with a collection of very British-friendly pubs and restaurants, including a pizza place, a Tandoori, a Steak-on-the-stone grill and a French-style bistro. I can definitely recommend it for big families and groups of friends alike.

Do not miss out on this fabulous beach bar in beautiful Lagos Portugal! I found the prices to be affordable, but I am American and found all of the food in Lagos to be very reasonably priced, I believe the Ahi I mentioned above was 18 Euro. there is a ramp to the restaurant, but it does start in the sand and may not be easily accessible by a wheelchair. I don't recall seeing a TV but can't promise that there isn't one. I wasn't there on a Sunday night, but if I had been, I would have made a reservation weeks in advance for a table; it's very popular on Sunday nights and there is live music. No photos, sorry, I was too busy devouring the amazing food to take a picture of it!

It is NOT a luxury all-inclusive self-contained resort where one might go, and stay in. I don't know why they called themselves a resort. It is not. My fellow tour group members say it look like a Motel 6 (USA reference). The lobby looks good. The outdoor pool looks good from a distance. The surrounding borders are falling apart. Walking into our room, it is very dated and clearly has not been updated for a long time. That microwave has analog turn dials; the last time I saw one like that was with my elderly in-laws, when they were still working, over twenty years ago. A random extra bed is in the room, which they retrieved. The furniture is old and with a sagging mattress, visible in the photo. The bathroom is outdated with an after-market update of rain-shower. Hey, at least the TV is flat screen, not a CRT. The morning breakfast was a highlight with good varieties and good fruits though the coffee was watery. Our group was out sightseeing away from the room from 8:30am to nearly 4pm. The room was still not cleaned when we return. The front desk took us that is normal, that they start at some other part before reaching our area. Our tour manager gave them an earful, and they confessed they are short on staff. Why lie about it?

The rooms were clean, linens were above grade, along with their towels. Their pillows were difficult; i.e., not comfortable, almost as if too big, at least for me. The room offers a way to make hot water, yet does not provide in room coffee, tea yes, no coffee. The grounds are beautiful with access to the beach. The beach access directly from the property needs improvement versus a sign stating 'use at your own risk' to go down to the beach. Moving on to the restaurant within the hotel, best to say needs improvement. For example, they offer a Cesar salad, which should really be re-named a chicken salad with Cesar dressing, yet re-naming it won't help much, as it's overall poorly done starting with their usage of iceberg lettuce to pre-fab sliced chicken. They offer tempura veggie appetizer, which came with only one type of veggie, possibly string beans. There was also a skewered chicken kebab, chicken wrapped in bacon, which was to come with grilled vegetables, fair. The hotel saving grace was their breakfast. Yet don't think you can take a cappuccino up to your room to wake your partner, nope,NOT allowed, no food may leave the dinning area. Buffet was grand. Lesson learned, eat breakfast at hotel, look elsewhere for lunch & dinner.

The fridge was also put to good use. There was ample enough storage also. The bathroom was excellent, nicely decorated with lots of shelf space to put your bits and pieces on. It always surprises me when holiday accommodation over look shelf space. But not here in the Memmo Baleeira. Cleaning staff were excellent also, always leaving the room spotless and perfect whenever we wanted it serviced. Friendly too whenever you passed them in the corridor. The pool area is fantastic, one of the highlights. Getting to it early helps with nabbing a parasol and sun bed, but people always seem to be coming and going to, so if you wait a bit you will probably get a sun bed by the pool throughout the day. The view from the pool also gets a special mention. I don't think I would ever get bored of that view: the harbour, the sea and the blue blue sky. Wonderful And the little public beach at the bottom of the cliff, which you can get to from the hotel grounds via a steep set up steps is also worth checking out. Not many people staying at the hotel seemed to though as it was always relatively empty. Probably due to the steps taking some getting used to, they are a tad difficult so not for the meek. Next the breakfasts: wow, really impressive. And a great range on offer, so you don't get bored of the food by the end of you stay. It got very busy after 9am, so may be worth getting there early. There are a few downsides, mainly in the bar where the food was overpriced for what your get. I got a cous cous salad one lunchtime and I have to say I can make a much nicer one at home myself. This one was just bland, boring and tasteless. Our second and last lunch was by the pool. Our advice is go somewhere else for lunch. The other downside was the bar staff. We were more or less ignored one evening when we went in for some cocktails. We left cocktail-less. Baffling behaviour. But as I said, the poor food and bad service seemed to be confined to the bar. Overall a lovely stay here at Memmo Baleeira and a recommended hotel in the Sagres area.

I didn't want to talk so it was quiet and that was respected. I didn't take pictures, but there were candles lit and it was clean and had beautiful music playing. We were staying at the hotel so we had access to all amenities. The hotel is so beautiful. I highly recommend staying here. It's gorgeous and walking distance to the beach with ocean views. We had a 2 bedroom adjustment with a full kitchen and 2 bathrooms. It had 2 balconies and garage parking. It's in a luxury neighborhood as well. We had the bed and breakfast package and every morning we had a huge and great breakfast. We also are at the restaurant for lunch and dinner plus had snacks and drinks at the bar. I can't imagine a better place. Everyone who works here is very nice and professional. I feel lucky to have found this gem.

No foods though so you need to bring your own salt, pepper, sugar, etc. Facilities. pool, sauna, a small gym, and secure parking. The check in area has a pool table and a large seating area with couches and chairs. Your room can overlook the pool and patio. I think upper floors have much better views though. You can see the coastline including sunrises. To see the sunset just walk 100 feet to the overlook. There are many restaurants in the area including Italian, pizza, Mexican and of course a large number of Portuguese. Overall this place is very clean and has a nice relaxing atmosphere.
