Really nice people to do work with. I was driving from Kentucky to Utah, and my battery light came on in the middle of nowhere, southern Illinois. Seriously, the gap between Evansville and Mt Vernon is desolate. I kept driving until I made it to Mt Vernon, and called AAA who recommended these guys. I assumed it was my alternator, and after they checked the alternator was in fact the issue. I was worried that this temporary hang up was going to mess up my vacation plans, but they made sure it did not. Got the new alternator and replaced it all on a late Friday afternoon and I was back on the road. Was it cheap? I don't know. I hadn't had an alternator put in a vehicle in a long time. I mean, everything seems high to me. But it was exactly what I needed when I needed it, and I'd have paid up for that anyway. So, for the speed and timeliness of the job, it was worth it to me. I contacted Roadside Assistance who dispatched Martin's Automotive Center to assist me, however, gave them an address about thirty minutes from where I actually was. Upon meeting Castle, their Office Manager extraordinaire, she made everything better. Got in touch with the company that installed the prior alternator to validate it was under warranty and the team worked hard to get us back on the road. I was traveling across country and had to have my vehicle towed into Mt. Vernon. I checked for mechanics and called this shop first thing in the morning. They knew I had a deadline to get to where I was going and got it right in, confirmed that the problem was indeed the alternator and got the part on its way. It took a while for the part to arrive, so they took me back to where my trailer was and then got the vehicle ready to receive the part. When it was finished, instead of just picking me up and taking me back to the shop, they brought my vehicle and helped me hook the trailer back up, then went back to their shop to pay, and I was on my way. Nobody likes having to pay to have their vehicle repaired, but these folks made it pretty painless. read more

Just want to say THANKS to the people at Martins Automotive in Mt Vernon Illinois. On a road trip from Atlanta to Denver my car died approximately 20 miles west of Mt Vernon Illinois. We thought that the fuel pump had gone out because the care would sputter and die. I had the car towed to Martins automotive. They checked the car out and ran all types of diagnostics test on it and couldn't find anything wrong with the car. Their chief mechanic said that he couldn't in good conscience just start changing parts out to fix a problem that didn't exist. He asked if we might have gotten some gas that might have had water in it. I let him know that our last fill up was in Tennessee where it had been raining for the last 2 days. The suggested that we fill up again and to put 2 bottles of HEAT in the tank to help pass the water out. We made the rest of the trip to Denver with no problems. read more

Not honest people, they knew we were traveling cross country and experienced car trouble. Instead of being good people and helping us out, they completely took advantage of us (and later on admitted to it but refused to refund us the excess money that we shouldn't have had to pay). On a recent trip from Montana to Kentucky we stopped a night in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, to get fuel. Upon leaving the gas station our vehicle quit running in the parking lot. After attempting to re-start it to only have it stop again, we decided to check into a motel and have someone look at the car in the morning. I first called a local dealership who told me there was no way they could work me in that day. I asked for a recommendation for another auto repair facility in the area that they considered reliable and trustworthy. They recommended Martin's. I called Martin's and they not only told me they could look at the car that day, but offered to arrange a tow for us if we couldn't drive the car to them. We managed to make it to their facility on our own and they immediately took our car into the shop to diagnose the issue. While waiting we worried that it would be something very expensive, but we had no choice but to have the vehicle repaired. In a short time the manager came out and told me that the only thing they could find was a sensor that needed to be reset. They reset the sensor and after a short test drive had the vehicle ready to go in a very short time. Not only were we pleased that they were able to repair it and get us back on the road quickly, but the cost was very minimal compared to what it could have been had they not been honest in their diagnosis and repair. We were extremely pleased with the customer service, quality and timeliness of the entire experience. I would highly recommend Martin's to anyone who lives in the Mt. Vernon area, or even nearby.
