It is also conveniently located to the Markt and Choco-story within a few minutes walk of everything.

Orthographic neighbor's aside, we were charmed by the luxuriant and comfy accommodations. The room was beautiful, the lobby was opulent, and the staff gracious. However, the best feature was how the hotel was tucked away, just off the main road so that we did not hear a noise outside or early in the morning despite the Markt gearing up for some grand winter festival with trucks and construction crews working from dawn til dusk.

We (4 adults) stayed in the quad room, which was a charming loft-style room with the bed on the lower floor and two singles in the upstairs portion of the room. The room felt spacious due to vaulted ceilings. The bathroom was nice. We received free wifi for all of our devices and it worked well. The hotel is old but was clean and beautiful, it's age not an inconvenience (although the elevator was a bit scary!) The hotel is in a great location. Walking, it was 7 minutes from the market/belfry and 25 minutes from the train station. Don't make our mistake though!--if you have rolling luggage, take a bus or taxi, don't walk! The town is all cobblestone and it's a hard walk with rolling luggage! What impressed us most was the service! We arrived early, but the nice receptionist personally checked to see if our room was ready (it was). She then set us up with a map (all the hotels seem to do this) but helped point stuff out so we could make the most of our short stay. Finally, discovering that we would be leaving at 5:30am the next day (which is outside of the hotel's reception hours of midnight to 8am), she helped us check out, arranged a taxi for us, and then arranged a free 5am breakfast for us, 3 WHOLE HOURS before the breakfast opened to hotel guests!!! The next morning, the man preparing the hotel's breakfast was ready for us with fruit, bread, yogurt, cereal, and juice/coffee, and opened the door so we could get to our taxi. This all very much impressed us and was unexpected. We all plan to stay in Brugge again someday and will be staying at Hotel Jan Brito again.

We got a family duplex in the main building in high season for about 190 EUR a night, and that included breakfast, which was very good and very typical Belgian, fresh croissants and such. Our room was cool, had all kinds of nooks and crannies. The little bar is actually really great, small but open late. One of the overnight guys wasn't that cool, but otherwise the staff was really great. The location could scarcely be better, right off of the spot on the Dijver where everyone takes that one picture ... but the street isn't too crowded with people.

The rooms are exactly as pictured - very old world elegance that has been updated as needed, including an elevator, wonderful baths, and glorious A/C if needed. The beds were comfortable, linens were fine, and furnishings plentiful. The location was great with an added bonus of a secure garage steps from the front door. Emmanuel is very helpful with recommendations for restaurants, helping us find a great place for dinner when the place we had a reservation decided not to open one evening! The breakfast prepared by Emmanuel's wife Maka is fit for a king! Meats, cheeses, eggs, lots of fruit, pastries, yogurt, juices, fancy coffees, and more. It was amazing, given there are only four rooms with a limited number of guests! We have friends in Belgium and when we visited them, I remember the same hospitality for breakfast - lots and lots of options. I highly recommend this maison for a short or long stay in Bruges. You will not be disappointed!!! PS. We stayed at Relais Bourgondisch Cruyce on a prior trip and found Maison le Dragon Guesthouse was better in every way - larger rooms, better breakfast, better amenities, and great personal attention.

We took the train from Antwerp to Bruges. The guesthouse is centrally located, just a block off the main street and walking was easy anywhere we wanted to go. Our room was large, spacious and attractively decorated. It was on the second floor and could be reached via the stairs or by the small elevator. The bed was comfortable and the bedding was lovely. The bathroom was divided into two parts, a toilet closet and a larger room w/ sink, shower and bathtub. Floors were marble tile. The windows opened onto a garden shared by the buildings surrounding it and birdsong and conversations from restaurant patrons formed a pleasant soundtrack. Free wifi was available in the room, which had a desk and chair at which to set up our laptop. Our host, Emanuel, was gracious and hospitable. His restaurant recommendations were excellent, aside from the first unfortunate one for lunch. Coffee and teas were available at any time. Breakfasts were capacious, starting w/ a large plate of fresh fruit for each of us, a basket of assorted breakfast pastries and breads, eggs (until we requested no eggs), a variety of very good cheeses and finishing w/ an assortment of chocolates. Truly no lunch was needed following that meal. Though we ate indoors, some guests opted to sit outdoors on the patio in back. The public rooms were attractively decorated and comfortable. Emanuel was also extremely helpful in making arrangements for us to get to Brussels without using the train, which we had found difficult w/ all our baggage. He gave us a lovely box of chocolates as a gift. We definitely would stay here again if we were to return to Bruges.

As the weekend arrived, there was higher demand and often no carriages at the main square for long. The tour gives you a good overview of old town Bruges. Tour guides are friendly & knowledgeable. Prices are reasonable. Blankets are provided to keep you warm in the cold. And, most importantly, the horses are fantastic! They don't just saunter along - they really move fast at some points! And they seem to love their jobs. All tours stop 1/2 way through (near the "lake of love") to give the horse a break & snack. I overheard that the horses work 4 days a week for 6 hours a day and then get a three day break. We took a tour our first day and then took another our last day before catching the train to Paris. Our first horse loved me - definitely one of the highlights of the trip.

During the day they was quite a bit of noise from tourists outside talking and taking photos. Our room was good sized with a faux fireplace and king bed. The large bathroom featured a double vanity, tub/shower combo and toilet. Our room rate included breakfast as well. The room decor could best be described as cozy cottage with subtle floral wall paper, well worn plank floors covered by an oriental rug and tall whitewashed wainscoting. The low ceilings and dark interiors added to the subtly. We arrived quite early on a train from Ghent so weren't able to get into the room but when we returned closer to 3, we were checked in and our rooms were even up already.

I had to get back to the tour meeting point within an hour so I didn't have much time to wait. I asked if it would be a wait and was told that it shouldn't be long (10 minutes max) but it ended up being 1/2 hour. Seems the Boat tours get busier as the afternoon progresses. It was a nice/Hot day and some type of shade in the waiting area would have been nice. 12 Euros and they do accept cards. This was my second time taking the tour and it was ok. It was difficult to hear the Captain/Guide given he was speaking fast as he was trying to provide the information in a couple of languages. In addition, the PA system wasn't clear. Overall, a good way to see Brugge from the canal perspective. More to enjoy the sights vs sights and information.
