They have lots of cool stuff, a takeout counter, lots of local cheeses, homemade desserts etc. Large selection of grocery items and knickknacks. Convenient convenience store along US-2 for a bathroom break. The store is a pretty decent grocery shop and I got some fresh sliced cheese and a case of bottled water. I think the store is great. Highly recommend the breakfast sandwiches! I'm only giving one star (which I will change once this is addressed) because they charge deposit on hard cider which is not redeemable in VT. I even showed the cashier that VT was not one of the states listed on the can. He actually told me that I could go to one of the states listed on the can and get my $. Probably not a great idea during Covid. I jokingly said that I'd head directly to Hawaii to get my $ .30. Unfortunately the joke was lost on the cashier. I urge the management to school all of their cashiers on VT's quirky deposit laws. I had to learn them when I moved here and I don't even sell alcohol. read more

I'm giving this place a 4 stars because it truly was a one stop. First of all, there seems to be no diner in the area or place to go for a sit down inside breakfast. We got gas, directions, and bought convenance store stuff. They sell wine, beer, and have clean FREe bathrooms. We ate breakfast (bagels with cream cheese), lunch (yummy sandwiches), and pizza for dinner. This seems like the local spot to be! The customer service is attentive and friendly. I enjoyed all the green mountain variety coffees. The locals are friendly too. We shared spots on the tables located in the front. For tourists like us, they also have maps and local attraction brochures steadily available. For the locals or those staying for awhile, there is a community billboard with festivals and local happpenings. 9/2010 read more

Marty's is more than a convenience store - it's the life blood of any trip to the Northeast Kingdom! Definitely the best place to get wine and beer in the area (unless you want to go to a real grocery store in St. Jay). No hard alcohol though. For that you need to go to the store in Danville, just up the road on Rt 2. (I'm not of its exact name, but it's tough to miss.) Marty's also has an awesome deli. Great sandwiches, awesome soups, good pizza, and an assortment of desserts and baked goods from local places. Stop there for food on your way to the pond or the mountains. They used to have an ice cream shop, too, but no more. I think it's being replaced with a bank, though, which will be good if you need cash. It's also the place to get reasonably priced gas and use a clean bath room. Score! Marty's is truly the first and last stop! read more

Thank goodness for Marty's! This is a great convenient store that truly is convenient! Marty's has everything you would need from your regular grocery store, and has the best food you could ask for. It's all so good and so fresh here. I definitely recommend getting at least your meat and fish here, if not everything else. I love visiting from out-of-state and getting a Marty's "grinder." I get at least one every day that I am within driving distance. I even take one for lunch at the airport for when I catch my flight home. It's quite funny actually. If I visit town for more than a week I basically gain 10 lbs all from Marty's. The staff is friendly and helpful and they open early (6am). The bathrooms are clean if you need them, and there is plenty of space for your animals to stretch their legs in the huge parking lot if they need it. Marty's also has very yummy homemade local foods and carries a huge variety of Vermont products. Try to support Vermonters when you can! Easy access off Route 2 for both cars and snowmobiles. Fill-up your tank before you leave or it could be a while until you see another gas station! read more

Marty's is an incredible little store that is always bustling with business. It amazes me that the three registers are always full of customers in this small town in the Northeast Kingdom. Even at 6 a.m. it is possible to wait in a short line for a cup of their Green Mountain Coffee. They offer tasty breakfast sandwiches each morning and the deli provides an impressive selection of food and now has Boar's Head deli meats. You can get a sandwich to order or they also have some pre-made sandwiches if you don't have time to wait. Their soups are always fresh and they also offer burgers and fries to order and other fried foods. Considering there isn't another pizza place in Danville, the pizza is decent and affordable. They offer an impressive produce selection for a convenience type store. They always have fresh lettuces, fruits, seasonal veggies and herbs. In season, they sell local produce from area farms, including Four Corners. In the grocery section, they sell local free range eggs, fresh local loaves of bread, Cabot cheeses and dairy items, and local maple syrup. I always can count on Marty's when I'm preparing a dinner party. They have incredible options for appetizers, including fresh olive tapenade, fancy crackers, and goat cheese. Their wine selection offers an impressive range, including affordable bottles of wine to fancier options. Same with the beer, as you can buy Bud Light and other big name beers OR selections from small breweries like Rainbow Red Ale from the Trout River Brewing Co. THEN they have an entire feed and hardware store in the back, plus a bank! The staff is friendly and helpful, and Marty's really is a one stop shop, and I guarantee that there is something for everyone! read more

Strategically placed on Rte 2 near the local rail trail is Marty's First Stop. This place has it all. At first blush looks just like a 'Mom and Pop' store. But it has just about everything from groceries, pizza, subs, wine and delicious breads. Don't forget to fill up with gas, go to the bank or get some pet food, too. First off, Marty's is a convenience store, with all that implies, but somehow, it's better than that, a convenience grocery on steriods. Marty himself is usually on-hand, running the show. His store's selection of regionally riased beef and chicken is unsurpassed . We even go there to get steaks to throw in the grill in our Vermont winters! They are that good! Fresh lobsters swim in a tank, too. There is a nice produce section and a little of everything you might find in a large grocery. New to Marty's, a feed and hardware store for your general farm needs. The feed is by Blue Seal or Poulin, and there is a smattering of other pet and livestock supplies. A nice addition, as there is no other real hardware store anywhere else in Danville or West Danville. You either have to travel to St. Johnsbury or Cabot to find another hardware/outdoor equipment outfitter. All in all, with the exception of the only fuel available being Exxon/Mobile, Marty's is as good as a small local convenience store can get. read more

They have just about everything here. Groceries, deli, coffee, meals to go, etc. This place is usually packed. It is convienently located on route 2 on your way to St. Johnsbury or Montpelier. I stop here specifically because they sell my favorite orange juice- Natalie's (fresh squeezed all natural juice, amazing) in half gallon containers. Anyway, the staff are always helpful and friendly too. A few times the coffee has been a little stale but usually it is good Green Mountain coffee. Check this place out. read more

This is a great, small grocery shop/ deli just off Route 2 between St. Johnsbury and Marshfield VT. We were on vacation in Cabot, Vermont and wanted to know where to get groceries. We were referred to Marty's and the place was great. It's jam-packed full of basic and fancy groceries and a lot of basic items that you need when on vacation (like batteries or paper towels). We got local eggs too! It also has beer, wine and fabulous deli where they can make you up sandwiches or pizzas to go. despite the fact that it was ten miles away from the house we were staying at, we went by Marty's almost daily. read more
