Wagoner's Tree Farm - The perfect tree!

    Wagoner's Tree Farm

Although my husband and stepdaughter have been doing this for years, last year was my first…read moreexperience searching for a live tree, cutting it down and taking it home. So, I sort of knew what to expect. However, this year, thanks to Wagoner Tree Farm, my expectations were far exceeded and we have found a place we hope to return to year after year. It's kind of "out there" in Geeencastle, but well worth the drive. After all, how often do you get to travel a gravel road? The farm is beautiful with rows and rows of several different kinds of trees to choose from. The first young man to assist us was so patient and helpful, describing to us the pros and cons (with sample trees to look at) and price of each tree. When we decided the type of tree we wanted, he pointed is in the right direction and off we went. Tree wagons are available, but we didn't take one with us, knowing our tree wouldn't be too big for two people to carry. We began our search, found many beautiful trees and eventually found the perfect tree for the space in which we wanted to place it. We brought our own saw to cut it down with and carried it back up to the front where they measured it, put it on a machine to shake the loose needles off, then ran it through a machine that bound it up so we could easily transport it and get it into the house. Free options that we loved. No piles of needles in the back of the truck and still room for the many other packages we bought as we stopped to shop on our way home. All of the young men working at the farm were as polite as can be, did their jobs efficiently and with a smile on their faces. When we asked how to pay, we were told to just go in and tell the cashier the length and type of tree we got. The honor system?! That says a lot to me about the people who run this farm. Honorable people tend to honor people. And, at $8 a foot for a Blue Spruce, we felt the price was extremely reasonable. The five of us left with faces as happy as the ones that greeted us when we arrived. See you next year, Wagoner Tree Farm!
