My 91 1/2-year-old mother had an appointment. She was a new patient and had an 11 o'clock appointment. The problem is we got caught on Harlem Avenue with a train and then we could not find parking. We arrived at the office at 11:03. When I got there, they told me they had called me that she was overbooked. I looked at my phone and I wanted to show her. I had no missed calls at all so I don't know what number she called ? The receptionist said that she was going to try to squeeze me in, but the doctor would not see my mom. Since she was 91 1/2 years old you think she would've made an exception. But no, I even told the receptionist sometimes when we have to wait a half an hour for a doctor that's OK but when we get there in time for the appointment not earlier, they will not see her. I understand they wanted us there a half an hour earlier, but things will happen just like when they were late with their appointments. I will never come back to this location again very dissatisfied. They should not overbook, obviously they were overbooked. That's why they tried to call me in the first place very very disappointed. read more

Dr. Bender is a delight! I saw her this week after I injured my foot while dancing and landed on it wrong. It had been a couple of weeks and I was worried I may have broken something. Her staff was nice and welcoming and made me feel comfortable. I was seen right away by Dr. Bender. She's professional, kind and very knowledgeable. She put my worries at ease as she thoroughly examined my feet and explained what she saw. Dr. Bender took X-rays in the office (which was very convenient!) and was able to tell me immediately that there were no fractures. Thank goodness! I saw Dr. Bender for help with my tailor's bunion. She was very thorough and took a lot of time to help. It was very easy to schedule an appointment and her staff was very nice. The doctor herself is very nice, great bedside manner BUT her staff is very rude. My pharmacy was having an issue getting an authorization firm faxed over to Bender's office and it wouldn't go through. They left numerous messages to no avail so I started trying. Unfortunately I had the same exact issue. Their phone system is not easy to navigate and takes forever to get somebody on the line. And then when you do they are very rude. It took 6 phone calls to finally realize that the fax number on their business card is not where authorization forms need to be faxed. I asked the staff at Bender's office to please call my pharmacy and they never did even though they said they would countless times. It took over 3 weeks to get my prescription handled appropriately and way more agitation than needed. read more

I recommend podiatrist Mary Ann Bender in Oak Park, Illinois. I saw her in late 2018 and early 2019 because of pain in the balls of my feet that had started in 2013 and persisted since then. The condition made it painful to walk for more than 3 blocks on sidewalks or harder surfaces. I had previously been treated by a doctor, a podiatrist and a physical therapist for the condition, and used orthotics in my shoes, but that treatment had not reduced the pain. Dr. Bender first gave me a pain killer, which did not help. But she also referred me to physical therapy, which helped significantly After about 5 sessions of therapy and doing the prescribed exercises, the pain was cut in half. I consider that to be major progress because my prior medical care did not reduce the pain. I continue to do the exercises. Dr. Bender also prescribed an orthotic to wear in my shoes or sneakers, which seems also to reduce the pain. read more

Dr. Bender is the best! I visited her for two different foot problems in the last year. Chronic pain in one ankle solved with physical therapy recommended by Dr. Bender. The other problem was a traumatic injury to the other foot -- a car ran over it. She gave me excellent advice, set me up for PT again, and took very good care of me. My foot is healing well, and I will definitely go back for follow up care. Her office is pleasant and efficient, and her staff was very helpful in negotiating the insurance issues. I had a foot ailment for many years and was going to the big podiatrist practice in the area. Each visit I would see a different intern/resident and they would always say there was nothing they could do. I found Dr. Bender and after a few short visits she was able to cure my ailment using a method the other practice never tried or offered. I called the fourth week of January 2017.I asked the receptionist if I could talk to the doctor because the last two podiatrists I saw did not bill right under Medicare.And I ended up paying a lot more then twenty percent.The receptionist told me the doctor would call me that day.Six hours later the receptionist did a 180 that the doctor did not talk to patients before the meeting.What goes at this place so go here at your own financial risk because they do not seem to care. read more

She really motivates me to do better on my blood sugar numbers and she recommended shoes that have helped me alot. I have seen several Doctors from Podiatrists to Orthopedic Surgeons who have not helped me with my Foot and Ankle Pain. When I went to see Dr. Bender she took the time to do a thorough exam and analyze my situation. After only a few visits she came up with a plan that has significantly reduced my pain. I was supposed to get an mri on my foot at an imagining center because their x rays didn't do a good job showing the issue I am having. I was sent on a wild goose chase to find an mri place that had to have this specific type of foot mri that none of the places I called ever even heard of. No one informs you of anything. No one calls back. It's horrible. I finally gave up. It's not my job to find a specialty mri place. This was 2 months ago and I still haven't heard from them. I have been dealing with a planter wart for nearly 2 years. After trying several over the counter medicines and some home remedies without success, I finally decided to ask my primary care doctor about it during my yearly check-up. After examining my foot, she told me that I had to go see Dr. Bender. I was able to schedule an appointment the same week. Upon arriving, her front desk person was extremely friendly and helpful. I was in my appointment seeing Dr. Bender within 5 minutes of walking into her office, which is always a good sign. Dr. Bender asked me some questions, examined my foot, and applied her first treatment. She went into great detail about explaining what causes plantar warts and how to void them. After 2 additional appointments, my plantar wart was all gone. I can't believe I put up with it for 2 years. Dr. Bender was amazing, informative, and friendly. I would highly recommend her to anybody who had any sort of foot issues. read more

Dr. Bender gave very basic advice for my condition. After recommending an MRI and Cam walker(both very expensive), I asked if orthotics would help. She said that she thinks orthotics are good for everyone. She quickly made molds of my feet. She helpfully said that her staff would confirm that my insurance would cover them before ordering them which they did the next day. I didn't hear another thing for several months when I received statements from my insurance stating that Dr. Bender had charged them $2000 and I owed her $400 which is my deductible. My foot condition healed on its own with rest at this point. I left a message which was ignored. Several months later I did get a call to pick my orthotics. When I told her I did not want $400 shoe inserts I was told they would look into it. I never heard anything so I called several months later when I had not received a bill for any services. I was told that they had sent 2 statements to my home for $400 and I never received even 1. My concern is that this provider is racking up costs for unnecessary services and her staff is completely incompetent. This issue is not resolved, but I am sure I will be stuck with $400 shoe inserts. Please look elsewhere for a more reputable and competent operation. read more
