This place is a neighborhood gem and I don't even live in the neighborhood! The food and service are fantastic!! The staff answered all of my questions and were patient with me as I tried to speak in Spanish. They all speak English, but I wanted to at least try some Spanish. I got the shrimp enchiladas with mole. The enchiladas also have zucchini and squash that made for a great flavor and texture combo. Also, the rice and beans were top tier!! I am a rice and beans connoisseur, so I know when I taste a good batch. The rice was cooked to perfection! My friend got a burrito bowl and she couldn't stop raving how fresh and flavorful it was. What a scorcher of a day! I was on the way up to meet for a party, and it was a long walk from the metro. I decided to make a stop along the way to break up the walk. Yelp helps me to discover this place, and even though there was no happy hour at the time, it was a nice stop. The menu is primarily mexican, but I see some Salvadorian on there too (mainly pupusas). I didn't see an option for single tacos, so I opted for just one loroco pupusa. The event I was going to was food, so I wanted to keep it light. I wanted to try a drink too, and just opted for a regular margarita. When I was given the option of either a regular or a large, I had to go with the latter. The margarita came in one of those delightful chalices, and I got a tajin rim. The pupusa was delicious, but this was one of the few times I had to eat it with a knife and fork because it was so hot, and a sauce made it kind of messy. It was great otherwise! It was the perfect amount of food for me at the time. While I was there, a few parties came through and mainly sat outside. I was the only one inside, and the staff were lovely. I don't find myself up there very often, but I would return. Some of the items are pricey -- $4 pupusas are a perfect example. read more

This is an excellent neighborhood spot. The staff are really welcoming. They have delicious food with excellent portions. They have great kids options and kids even eat free on Mondays. Their vegetarian options are really good. The veggie tacos, quesadillas, and burritos are all tasty. The guac and chips are solid and so are the pupusas. My husband and I live close by and decided to stop by for an early dinner on Mother's Day. We were seated outside and really enjoyed the meal. We preferred the beef enchiladas, the half chicken and a pupusa. The chicken and plantains were my favorite and there was food left to take home. It was also nice to see they offer $5 bottle beer in this economy! Our server was good and gave me a rose for Mother's Day which was sweet. Holy moly! This food was AMAZING! I am surprised there aren't more reviews. Chicken quesadillas were HUGE and soooo yummy (just chicken and cheese per our 9yo). Chicken fajitas were so unique and delicious. I plan to come back to get the Peruvian chicken (got a tip from our waitress to come early for that as they usually sell out). Service was amazing! Highlights here were the drinks and the friendly service. The restaurant is quite small inside, with a few big TVs. It wasn't rowdy or too crowded like most bars on a Friday, making it a nice place to chat and relax. . The food here is not too bad for a quick stop. The pupusas were very cheesy and had a nice crisp, I enjoyed the salsa, but the cheese dip we had was a bit congealed. The margaritas were a great deal for the price! Let me tell you -- they were VERY strong. So strong I thought I might've accidentally ordered a double! It made them a really good deal, and not too sweet to drink. Mexican and Tex-Mex food in DC continues to be an utter disappointment. We've been trying to find something solid for years. We decided to give Mary's a try because it was only about a mile north of where we were checking out a show and we'd heard good reviews. Well, the search for good Tex-Mex continues, but Mary's was a decent spot along the way. The restaurant had a Tex-Mex feel, although it was more Salvadorian than Mexican (pretty typical for DC). It didn't have some of the Tex-Mex standards: free chips & salsa, homemade flour tortillas, nachos, etc. I had the scrambled egg burrito, which was pretty good. It was a good combination of beans and eggs, which was well-balanced (although adding potatoes would have elevated it). The white rice is surprisingly flavorful and the black beans were a good complement. The queso was decent, but a little overpriced for the size. I asked for salsa a couple of times, but they never brought it (only pico de gallo). The sweet tea was pretty good (it didn't taste like it was from a can, bottle, or fountain, although it also didn't taste freshly brewed). But, the best part of the experience was the service. All-in-all, I'd say Mary's is a good addition to the DC Tex-Mex landscape. 3.75 out of 5 read more

My friends & I stopped by for food on a Sunday around 5pm. Wasn't too busy. There were a few people at the bar in and out while we were there but still fairly quiet which is unfortunate because the food is AMAZING. This was my first time trying authentic Salvadorian food and I was not disappointed at all. My friend recommended I try the Lomo Saltado and it was cooked to perfection. The steak and fajita veggies were very tender and flavorful. A little bit of a spice to them but not too much that I couldn't enjoy it. The beef enchiladas were also DELICIOUS and perfectly cheesy and creamy. They had sort of a honey bbq flavored sauce to them. Not sure what exactly this was but it added so much to the plate. 10/10 will recommend to anyone. read more

We live in the neighborhood and we were glad that Mary's kept some of our favorite menu items (pupusas, rotisserie chicken) from the old restaurant while adding a ton of new items. It has really found its groove although I wish the value was more consistent across different menu items. But, it is always really good - faves are any quesadilla, shrimp enchiladas are excellent, mojitos! We appreciate kids eating free on Mondays. We go out to eat at a lot of different places but Mary's is hands down my 7 year old's very favorite restaurant.
