Mary browns was like any fast food chicken sandwich shop. The chicken sandwich was comparable to KFC or the rest. The taters were a nice touch as the were battered. This restaurant was quite smoky but the service was incredibly fast. I never love just a can of pop with a combo, but that's the Mary brown way so such is life! It's fast food. We are from teh US and had to try it. The service was meh. The employees didn't seem like they wanted to be there. This location was close to the movies so we tried it out. The chicken was good - it's fried chicken. The fried pickles were good, but nothing amazing. So I had Mary Brown's for the first time today, despite going past a Mary Brown's on Dufferin Street in Toronto all the time in my youth on the way to Yorkdale Shopping Centre. In those days (before social media) I never heard any advertising for Mary Brown's and there was no hype. It was also the only Mary Brown's location I ever saw. I didn't know that it was a chain from Newfoundland. And for whatever reason, I was never compelled to try it. Now in 2019, fried chicken is big again and here in Ottawa there was a lot of noise about Mary Brown's coming to Ottawa (returning to Ottawa? Rumour has it there was a Mary Brown's here once upon a time but then it closed? It was in Barrhaven? I don't know. Can anyone confirm?), so obviously I had to check it out! This location out by the Coliseum movie theatre opened at the beginning of March 2019 (the one at the Kanata Centrum opened January 2019). I was expecting a lineup since I heard the Kanata one has huge lineups, but at 6:45pm on a Wednesday it was super quiet. I was served right away. I got the 3 piece fried chicken combo for my husband. It came with taters (potato wedges), a small coleslaw and a can of pop for $12.49. I got a Chicken Pop-ins (popcorn chicken) combo for myself. It came with taters and a can of pop for $9.79. I loved the Chicken Pop-ins. They were mostly meat with just a bit of batter/breading. And it was all lean breast meat too! I'm a fan. I got the Maple Chili dipping sauce and I really liked it. It was a bit sweet and a bit spicy. I wasn't a huge fan of the taters. Some pieces were ok, but some I found were really mealy/starchy/powdery tasting (the bigger and thicker wedges). I had some of the fried chicken and it was good. The skin was crispy and yes it was oily/greasy, but not dripping with fat in a gross way. The seasoning on the fried chicken, Chicken Pop-ins and taters seem to be all the same to me. The seasoning was a bit on the bland side in terms of flavour, but there was adequate salt, just the flavour profile was blah IMO. The dipping sauces definitely helped, especially the Maple Chili since it gave a spicy kick. Service was friendly and quick. The restaurant is new and looks very clean. There are not that many seats to eat in, but everyone who came in while I was there was getting takeout. There's lots of free parking in the complex. I got a link to a feedback survey on my receipt. I did the survey and got a code. So if I bring back my receipt with the code written on it within 60 days, I get 15% off my next purchase. I guess I'll have to come back to try either the Buffalo Chicken Tenders or the Thai Chicken Pop-ins - twist my arm! Lol ;) read more

Picked up 2 Big Marys', regular seasonng.$9.49, no GST now. Lots of chicken.Absolutely no flavour whatsoever, even with a small amount of mayo-no spicing whatssover. Shouldn't have to have cayenne added to give it flavour. Thought it was just me so asked my wife what she thought, and same opinion. Havey's up the steet has a vastly superior crispy chicken sandwich fo r $7.99. Sorry, Won't be ordering the Big Mary again. read more

The food is delicious and very fairly price. The spicy wings are not nearly spicy enough, so be careful if you're looking for mouth burning spice. That won't be found here! The fries are delicious. They are wedges and perfect fried. The coleslaw was good as well. I'm not personally a big fan of coleslaw, but I was sharing the meal and the others quite liked it. The wings are crispy and juicy, but it doesn't feel oily at all. The batter is a perfect thickness and very well seasoned. read more

We were heading over to the Coliseum to see a movie and needed a meal before our movie, and honestly I had never heard of Mary Brown's before...I was pleasantly surprised! I ordered the Big Mary Chicken Burger, and upgraded my taters to a poutine. The burger was a little disappointing at first, definitely smaller than expected, but the taste of the chicken made up for it. I chose the spicy mayo which worked well, and the chicken was moist and flavorful. I would place it right up there with my usual favorite - Wendy's Spicy Chicken Sandwich. The poutine, for choosing the small, was huge and tasted great. Gravy had a good taste without being too salty, and the taters had a coating on them that was pretty yummy. The meal was a little pricey, $10.50 plus the $3 poutine upgrade, but I would mind coming back every now and then. Overall, very good experience when I had no intention to go there in the first place :) read more

We randomly stopped here for dinner before our movie and are quite impressed. The restaurant is fairly new and I'm assuming it's in its soft opening phase as they are preparing for their grand opening tomorrow. The restaurant is very clean and there is always staff walking around sweeping and wiping up the tables almost immediate after a customer leaves. The bathroom was also impressively clean. There are limited tables and seats for an eat-in option. I ordered the 3 piece tenders combo which comes with a drink and taters for $9.79+tax. I upgraded my taters to a poutine for an extra $3.00. The chicken tenders were really tasty and really soft. The tenders were lightly battered and it didn't feel overly greasy. It was really good. The poutine was quite impressive in terms of size, the amount of gigantic pieces of cheese curds. The gravy was just right and wasn't overly salty. The staff were really nice. They delivered our meal right to where we were sitting rather than calling out the order number or name. read more

My first experience at Mary Brown's consisted of a two piece meal with taters and gravy. This was a total game changer for me! I loved the crispy skin of both the chicken and potatoes, and I loved that the gravy wasn't too salty (I don't even like sauce much but I enjoyed it!) The creamy coleslaw was just that- creamy! It tasted fresh and was a good portion- just the right size. I really like that they are Halal certified. It can sometimes be hard to find new/different options when out with my Muslim friends, so it's great that this can provide some variety! My one complaint would be that service was a bit slow. That being said, the staff were friendly and attentive, and not only were they courteous with me but I also witnessed them go above and beyond for other customers as well. I will chalk up the delays to a minor growing pain for a new business, and I hope to come back in a little while to see how things have progressed after they've been open a bit longer. Huge fan of the chicken, and have been for years. Now that we have 2 locations in the Ottawa area, there's twice as many opportunities to get my chicken fix. This location has a different vibe than the one in Kanata. The food quality is just as good, but the behavior of the staff is........different. More chaotic. 3 people serving customers who don't seem to have a good groove on how to take and fill orders. 3 people in the kitchen who don't seem to know how to fill orders in an organized way. So, from a customer's perspective sitting waiting for their order, watching the chaos unfold with these 6 people, it's almost comical. It's certainly not professional. It doesn't put me off of the product, but I'm glad it's not the only place to get Mary Brown's in the city. read more

My first experience and I'd have to say it was underwhelming and not worth the price. I ordered the Big Mary chicken sandwich which was certainly not "Big" as the name and photo on the website would suggest. It was just your typical chicken sandwich reheated with a bit of hot sauce slapped on top. I could have gotten a much better sandwich at Wendy's or McDonalds for a few dollars less. The rest of my family ordered a 3 and 4-piece meal. We normally get our chicken at Popeyes which is about the same price point but tastier with larger chicken pieces. We won't be back to Mary Brown's. read more

One word: Disappointing. I payed almost $15 for the 4 piece chicken... the 4 pieces of chicken were the size of my car keys. I felt like I was eating salt not fries. And they both come in ONE small box... that means the 4 little chicken pieces take one side of the box and the fries take the other. Check the photo in the gallery. Best part was the pop. Not worth it. Trust me. I don't know about the sandwichs or wraps but I wouldn't waste my money on it. read more
