I looked around and I thought you could only get a large order of fried chicken and was about to walk out the door but after asking about it the person working mentioned a lunch special. It's 5 pieces of boneless fried chicken, fries and 1 can of pop for $12.99. They really need a better lunch special but I decided to go with this. 10 minutes later and I had my lunch special and was out the door. I wasn't asked how I wanted the chicken and I did see 3 sauces on the counter. They did toss some seasoning on it before packing but I didn't get a good look at it. I decided to try it as is. I got home and was excited to try this. Chicken pieces weren't small but weren't large either. They seemed a bit bland but the fries were well seasoned and really crispy. The chicken was pretty crispy as well. Overall it was OK, probably one of the better fried chickens in the area. If you have a craving, give this place a try but there's a few places in town I do enjoy more. They did just recently open so they might still be working out the kinks. Then they opened this location in Barrhaven, and I thought "hmm, free and plentiful parking, in a shopping plaza, and close to our friends' house, there is no excuse not to go!" So my husband and I went there last night with our friends who live near the restaurant. The Fry's specialty is Korean fried chicken. My husband and I shared the standard "half & half" ($28.99), which was a whole chicken, half of it plain fried chicken and the other half fried chicken in sauce. Our friends (another couple) got the "special half & half" ($29.99), which is also a whole chicken except you get to choose how you want the halves (choices are plain fried chicken, fried chicken in sauce, fried chicken in spicy sauce and soy garlic chicken). They got plain fried chicken and soy garlic chicken. They also got a basket of sweet potato fries ($7.49). Like all Korean restaurants, they start you off with some banchan (free appetizers). We got a skillet of sizzling corn, and some pickled daikon radish and pasta salad. We got 1 plate of each for the 4 of us. You can look at the pictures I posted, but I felt the daikon radish and pasta salad portion was pretty stingy. There were literally 6 pieces of rotini in the pasta salad for the 4 of us to share (!). I didn't have any corn, but those who did said it was ok. Just corn in some butter and heated up. The pickled daikon radish was good. It wasn't too strong in flavour. The pasta salad was pretty much rotini with some diced red and green bell peppers in a mayo-based sauce. It was good. Now on to the main attraction: the fried chicken! So I specifically told our server that I cannot eat sesame seeds, so please tell the kitchen not to sprinkle sesame seeds on my order of friend chicken with sauce. Well, guess what? It was the last basket to arrive and came covered in sesame seeds. So I reminded the server of my request and she said "oh yeah, sorry" and took it away. So luckily I was able to eat the other half which was just plain fried chicken. My husband and I were almost finished the plain fried chicken before they brought out the re-made sauced one. Now in our situation it was fine because we were going to share anyway, but had I been waiting for the sauced chicken, everyone else would have practically finished their meal before I would have gotten mine. The server did apologize again when she brought the new one out. The plain fried chicken was good. It wasn't too salty and the batter was just right. However, I really liked the sauced one. The sauce was garlicky and slight sweet. The pieces are cut up into small pieces, smaller than you would get at other fried chicken places like Kentucky Fried Chicken, Popeye's or Church's. The chicken also comes piping hot, so be careful you don't burn yourself! Service was good in that they were polite and nice, and they checked up on us occasionally and brought us extra napkins when they saw things were getting a little messy, lol. They also give you a water jug for the table and they refilled it when it was running low without us having to ask. When it came time to pay the bill, I noticed that they did not compensate us for their sesame seed screw up. Now my expectations for such matters are pretty low, like maybe a free dessert, or 10% off the item they made the error on, or even 5% off your next visit, just any small gesture to take responsibility for the mistake. So I was a bit disappointed in the way they handled the situation. At least the server apologized. Decor is pretty casual. There are 3 TVs that play sports and one TV that plays Korean pop music videos. The place is brand spanking new as they just opened up March 4, 2017. It's where the Corny Dog used to be (and before that Spuds). Overall, the chicken was good, but I found the sauce not as flavourful as Bonchon Chicken (in the USA) or Table 85 (the hidden gem here in Ottawa). Oh and they are still waiting for their liquor license as of the writing of this review. Also, if you are trying to eat healthily, you are out of luck at The Fry. I mean with a name like The Fry, what do you expect? The majority of the menu items are deep-fried. There are no salads or vegetable dishes (with the exception of buttered corn, and I guess french fries and sweet potato fries - but these are by no means healthy choices even if they are technically vegetables).

No one in my family (other than my husband and I) had had Mary Brown's Chicken before so we got a variety of items to try. We also got a box of 5 chicken tenders with fries for my little nieces to share, but I wasn't able to get a picture because they were hungry, lol ;) It was my first time having the spicy fried chicken and it looked to me like they just sprinkle spices on top of the regular fried chicken after frying. It was ok, but the spices were definitely not well distributed. It's also not all that spicy. The chicken at Mary Brown's is similar in style to Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), as opposed to Popeye's Chicken. It's less salty than KFC I find. The potato wedge were a bit bland, but tasted great with the gravy poured on top, lol. They are lightly battered. The onion rings were crispy and great. I had some leftover fries from my nieces. The fries aren't battered like the wedges. They were good as well. They are just regular-cut fries, not shoestring, but not beefsteak/thick cut. The macaroni and cheese salad was too rich and creamy for my tastes, but I guess that's how it's supposed to be. I didn't try the coleslaw because I generally don't like coleslaw and especially not creamy coleslaw. The gravy was nice and thick and full of chicken flavour. My dad's assessment was "better than KFC, but not as good as Popeye's" lol. I don't know if I agree. I really like Mary Brown's and I like that it's a Canadian chain (it's from out East). Besides, I think all fried chicken places can coexist, since they all offer something a bit different :) This Mary Brown's Chicken is in the Orleans Gardens Shopping Centre (which is really a plaza, not an enclosed shopping centre). From the first bite to the last, it was absolute perfection. The steak was unbelievably tender, sliced thin and piled high, cooked just right so every bite was juicy and full of flavour. The cheese? Melted perfectly into every bite, rich and smooth. And the bun... warm, soft, with just the right hint of crispness. It held everything together like a proper cheesesteak should. And here's the part that shocked me: it was better than any cheesesteak I've ever had in Philadelphia -- and I've had plenty. This one sets a whole new benchmark. Every ingredient tasted fresh, every flavour balanced. No shortcuts. No filler. Just pure, delicious craftsmanship. It's the kind of sandwich that makes you stop mid-bite and appreciate what's happening. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed something this much. Each combo includes fries, coleslaw, garlic sauce and a can of pop (although we never got any garlic sauce, but they gave us 9 packets of ketchup (yipee!), since I love ketchup and garlic sauce is usually fattening anyway, I was happy with just the ketchup). The wait is long because they make everything to order. It was about a 20-25 minute wait. The chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside with a nice hint of flavour. I feel that the chicken is slightly better here than at Zaki's Broast. Broasted chicken is supposed to be less greasy and oily than fried chicken, but I still found it oily. The best broasted chicken I've ever had was at La Hoyo in Halifax which is now closed :( I'm still looking for chicken like that... The fries here are much better than at Zaki's in my opinion. The fries at Laziz are hand cut and lightly seasoned. The coleslaw here is also amazing. It's the creamy type which I usually don't like but I liked Laziz's coleslaw. The dressing is slightly sweet and they use purple and green cabbage, so it looks really colourful. There's a nice crunch to the coleslaw too. The older man who works here is very nice, but the younger guy was really indifferent towards us. The place is clean enough, as are the washrooms. There's sufficient seating and lots of free parking. It's in the same strip mall as the Mark's, Sushi Kan, and Eclipse Asian Cuisine.

First couple of bites I thought how crisp the fried veggies were, as in, barely sauteed Not the best in my opinion. Secondly, I found a large black hair tucked in my sandwich. Ugh. :( (please see pictures for reference). I'm sorry-but really not sorry...but as soon as I find hair in my food, its a done deal for me, and I rarely if ever give establishments a second chance, which leaves me to giving this place a one star!

The cook came out and said that this was his 14th hour working and were told to get take out boxes and leave immediately.The meal cost over $120. It was with Family. I've never ever been told to leave a restaurant eating after closing. Called the next day , and spoke with the Manager. He stuck up for his Staff and started yelling through the phone. He said something wrong that he accused us of. He said his server was 18 and shouldn't have been told how unhappy we were. So, unprofessional! Do not go there. The food was so so for the price.
