I have been going to Dr.Lupo for fillers and botox since 2008. She is by far the BEST injector I have been to. Yes, the wait might be long and sometimes its not easy to get an appointment right away, but the result is completely worth it. She is a true artist and will never let you go overboard with fillers as other doctors might. I have been doing Juvederm in my lips and nasolabial folds for the past 6 years. Yes, I did go to see other dermatologists and plastic surgeons for the same procedure, but I never get the same natural esthetic result. My lips look gorgeous, and I constantly get compliments on the beautiful natural shape. After moving to NYC 3 years ago, I have been searching high and low to find doctor who would give me the same results as Dr. Lupo did for years. I called Dr. Lupo's office looking for a particular hair removal laser that does not require you to shave your face. The office staff could not tell me or give me ANY prices for hair removal....but said I had to "see" Dr. Lupo. They also tried to pressure me into booking a laser appointment following the $125 consultation, but I declined. 58 minutes is what I spent in the waiting room! And another 18 minutes to find out that shaving was required & other expensive treatments she thought I needed. In total, I wasted $125 & 76 minutes to find out "how much?" & if I needed to shave my face. (FYI: the cost was ridiculous: $300 PER treatment for the upper & lower lip-chin area.) Apart from being one of the single most spectacular human beings I know, she's also a knock-your-socks-off doctor, in technique, knowledge, reputation, and qualification. I met Dr. Lupo a few years ago, but today was the first time I visited her office. I really liked that there aren't any mirrors in the waiting room area. This could be a reprieve for people who are having facial dermatological problems. The staff at this medical office is friendly and courteous. There is plenty of literature on procedures, and a television playing an informative healthcare channel - Dr Lupo's commercials even come on occasionally! Altogether, there is a plethora of information for anyone who may be curious. Because it is presented through various forms of media, knowledge is easily attained by people of any age. I even learned about a few new things in the waiting room! 1. Vanquish. I assumed this was similar to cool sculpting because it is not surgically invasive, but it uses heat to promote fat loss in the abdominal area. Apparently Radio-frequency is used. Half hour treatments with diet and exercise appear to be extremely effective. 2. Heliocare sun care. This I definitely need to read more about. The pamphlet shows two bikers and asks "which is more protected?" Clearly, the biker wearing the helmet is more protected, but this biker is also taking a supplement that aids in UV protection. Although Dr Lupo is well known and I'm certain, very knowledgeable, she is the coldest Dr I have ever been to. She walks in and is straight to business, appearing rushed. She performed a biopsy and she was out the door while I still laid on the table. I laid there for a while before I realized she wasn't coming back. I got up off the bed and dressed. She was in my room for 2-3 minutes. Other than asking what she was biopsying, that was all that was said to me. I'm sure she's busy but I do have an appointment of slotted time and I had some questions to ask. After having already waited an hour past my "appointment" time, it was a very frustrating experience. Time aside, I received ZERO wound care instructions, not even an extra bandaid for the road - that is just mind blowing. Luckily, I have had biopsies in the past and was given great wound care instructions from a previous doctor in another state. So I'm going to bare it to you all, I'm not a huge fan of my skin. If I could replace one organ, that would be the one. If I could take it to the dry cleaner once every two weeks to get all the imperfections removed, you best believe I would. So as a pseudo-adult making adult decisions when it comes to doctors, finding someone to analyze my pores, moles, and that weird rash was not something I jumped into cannon-ball style. I had a friend suggest Dr. Holcomb who practices at the Lupo Center. The office is located conveniently near the Lakefront by Robert's with ample parking. This area over here isn't too busy so you're not going to bump into tons of people you know when that big zit could be mistaken for a third eye. It doesn't hurt either that the waiting room is dimly lit since I'm not looking to play whose mole looks funnier. The staff is extremely thorough with there pre-emptive analysis before the doc comes in, word to the wise, just lean back and tell them everything during that first encounter so they'll have it in their notes. My first meeting with Dr. Holcomb, I knew she was the one, it was dermatological love at first sight. She is uber down-to-earth, and I feel like I'm talking to one of my friends that just so happens to have an insane understanding of skin. She doesn't just prescribe this, this, and this and send you on your way. She lets you know what each product will do, how to administer it, and gives you a nice little sheet just in case you forget everything you've talked about. One instance, I had developed the strangest rash on my thigh with small blisters (sorry if you're icked out), and she asked if I had limes with my beer? It was summer and a totally legit question, but for a second I thought she might be psychic and the real Miss Cleo behind the phone calls... She said I must've been wiping my hands on my legs after squeezing my lime causing a reaction on my leg from the acidity. Now I know to wash my hands after excessive lime squeezing. She will even discuss pricing with you. I'm not rolling in the dough by any means, and while I think some of the treatments would be extremely effective, that doesn't mean I can afford them so don't be afraid to talk to her about your finances and what works best for you. They also have very affordable and effective products for sale at the office. I'm one of the most self conscience people you will ever meet when it comes to my skin, and Dr. Holcomb helped me get to the point of coming into to appointments sans makeup. It's been about 3 years now since I started with her, and we haven't found the miracle cure, but I feel a lot better about my skin than I ever had before. read more

Dr. Lupo ruined my skin horribly and had the audacity to insult me when I went back to address my concerns. I had a small indented scar near my lip from a mole removal. I made an appt. with her 2 yrs after for scar repair. At my appointment she only offered me one treatment option which was dermabrasion. Dermabrasion is an invasive l procedure that is not very common anymore and has been mostly replaced with lasers. She was going to do a spot treatment on 2 small scars. Both scars became worse and deeper after the procedure even after a year of healing time. I followed her after care instructions perfectly and was even told that I did a good job of doing so after my post one week check up right before the Covid shutdowns. Before I left that post follow appointment she had her laser technician zap the area she treated for the mole removal scar to get the redness out. I was also told to come back again if the redness persisted. There had seemed to be a lot of confusion with the laser treatment ordered by Lupo and came I only came back a 2nd time for it. I have new scarring, hypopigmentation (which I was never warned was a risk), demarcation lines, redness and increased sensitivity, larger pores and a rough uneven texture. The area looks awful and has made me so depressed. I now have white raised circle around the initial indented scar that is even more obvious. I was patient in waiting at least a 1 yr for it to fully heal as she stated. I was unable to get back to see her at 1 yr mark until 5 months later due to Covid and an injury. However, when i saw her again, I politely told her that I was very unhappy. I also mentioned that I did not understand why she did not offer any other treatments like subcision. She straight up lied to my face and said we did discuss other options, which was untrue. I had asked about other treatment options like using filler at my initial appointment but she only gave me the option for dermabrasion. Than when I complained that the skin around the scar is now much lighter due to hypo-pigmentation, she stated that dermabrasion doesn't cause hypo. This is completely incorrect, hypo-pigmentation is one of the risks listed in medical studies/reports and confirmed by other doctors. The abrasion of layers of skin can damage melanocytes. The lightened area was not there before and it is in the same circled shaped she treated around the scar. I have pics to prove it. The new scars from the procedure look uneven and as if skin did not rejoin properly where she dermabraded. The skin also appears raised compared to the surrounding skin and you can see a scarred demarcation lines between where the treated skin meets the good untreated skin. It looks like I have scarred borderlines. While discussing this with her she barely even examined the area and acted extremely dismissive. At one point she tried to blame possible weight gain for being the cause of the issues I was addressing!!! Weight gain has nothing to do with damaged scarred skin, texture and pigmentation changes due to the procedure. I also told her that this was upsetting b/c I have good skin in which she rudely replied "no you don't," while rolling her eyes and than telling me "for one you have rosacea." Her behavior and comments were insulting and condescending. It felt like a disrespectful attempt to minimize the legitimacy of the damages and me feel like my concerns do not matter because my skin isn't good anyway. From the moment I tried to explain my concerns, I felt like she didn't even listen or address them and was offended that I was even there bringing them up. She never mentioned roscea before nor has any of the other derms that I have seen in recent years. I would also think an educated Dr could differentiate facial flushing from the heat and obvious physical exertion from roscea. I mean it was obvious that I most likely walked to the appointment in the harsh August heat,. Finally, she didn't even offer me any solutions to try and correct the damage or even acknowledge it. I was the one naming possible different treatments Every thing I mentioned she scoffed at and would just smirk and say no without any explanation. Finally she said that she could do a TCA cross peel all around my mouth /chin area to see if it would help it even it out the pigmentation at my expense while rushing out of the office. Didn't even explain either that the peel is minimally invasive and with downtime and scabbing. She obviously never listened to my concerns because she wanted to treat even larger amounts of good skin for one small area with another risky procedure. Feeling hopeless read more

I am a young female dermatologist who trusts her face only to Dr. Lupo. She is a first and foremost a physician who understands skincare and aesthetic dermatology at a scientific level. She takes the time to evaluate skin types and conditions to help patients determine their best personalized skincare plan. It is true that any smart dermatologist can learn every fact in a book. However, Dr. Lupo is an artist. She understands artistic proportions and how to help every person achieve their ultimate beauty by using a combination of fillers, neuromodulator (aka "Botox"), resurfacing, and skincare. She is straightforward and does not sugarcoat what needs to be done to reach this goal and enhance the best features. Her honesty is refreshing. My own consult was no different than those she gives her patients. She takes detailed photographs from every angle. She will go over the photographs with you, before and after, to determine a plan and go over results. A lot of people forget their starting point, so her photographs really illustrate how much you improve over time. This is one of the many qualities that sets Dr. Lupo apart from other dermatologists. Dr. Lupo injected me with filler to balance my face. I was somewhat focused on my nasolabial folds (mouth parentheses lines) and flat face, but she helped me realize that it was actually the loss of volume on the outside cheeks that made things look flat. She injected me so gently that I didn't even feel any pain - I did not receive any numbing cream, though all of her patients get cream. I assure you that I didn't even feel anything, no numbing required. Her hands are so gentle and confident. After I saw the results in the mirror and in my photographs, I was ecstatic. What she was able to achieve was incredible - my lines were gone, and my face was a more oval, full shape. My eyes appeared larger! The compliments rolled in. Overall I looked and felt incredible. I went to Dr. Lupo because my doctor in Los Angeles said she was highly recommended. I studied the website and was very excited to go. I requested an appointment online and Dr. Lupo responded, then someone emailed me with the number to follow up. My appointment was scheduled a couple weeks out. That was fine, I didn't have an emergency, just going in for Botox. The location is part of a shopping center. There was plenty of parking. Inside, the office lobby is not too bright with plenty of seating. The person at the window when I arrived was kind of short with me when I told her that I had not printed the new patient materials. I told her that was why I came early. I didn't really think anything of the interaction. She could have been having a bad day. I didn't have a long wait in the lobby or the patient room (10 - 15 in each which is pretty standard in my world). In the room I was in, the walls were super thin. I could hear Dr. Lupo talking clearly, very clearly. Fortunately, it wasn't anything of a sensitive nature. The door opened and Dr. Lupo walked in the room like a rockstar. She's got a big presence and I loved it! I don't think women should dim their light. That being said, she is not warm and fuzzy. She will tell you like she sees it whether you like it or not. I like people who are direct so I didn't have a problem with it. I told her what my issues were and she went to work. I was satisfied with the results. It was more than I had been using previously but I was okay with it. She even gave me a Botox nose job once which was fun. I saw her four times in all over the course of a year. I did have an issue where I woke up with a wonky eyebrow. But I got an appointment right away and she fixed it. (I also saw one of her estheticians for a Hydrafacial. She was great!) I would have given a higher rating but I found the people I interacted with at check-in window to be consistently terse both on the phone and in person. On one occasion, I had to cancel an appointment at the last minute. I told the person on the phone that I wanted to pay the late fee and reschedule the appointment. The person was annoyed and told me that she would just send a bill. When I told her I preferred to pay at that time, she groaned and said, "Fine but you're going to have to wait and it's going to be a while." I was placed on hold for about 15 minutes. When she returned, she then transferred me to billing. I didn't understand why she didn't just transfer me to billing first. It made me feel as if she was punishing me for not wanting to wait to pay my bill. I don't need people to gush all over me but if I'm cordial, I expect the same in return especially for the price I was being charged. I decided not to go again after I went to an appointment late because I got the time confused. The person at the desk told me that it was too busy to be seen at that point and we rescheduled the appointment. I still received a no-show bill. If I hadn't showed up at all, I would've understood. I would've appreciated some transparency. If she was going to charge me for my mistake, I could've paid right then. Maybe that's what she was trying to avoid. Who knows. Ultimately, I didn't stay with Dr. Lupo. She is on the higher end price-wise. If I'm paying top dollar, I want to be more than satisfied. I want to rave about the staff as much as the doctor. There were some friendly faces but like I said, the front window people that I dealt with directly were often inexplicably brusque. I don't want to steel myself just to go get Botox. Plus, I tried to express that I wanted one area of Botox and not two. I know that at some point I will need two areas but not just yet. I want to look as natural as possible and not have a waxy look. Well-known dermatologist in the NO Metro Area..in fact she regularly appears in multiple women's interest magazines (Glamour, Cosmo, etc). I used to come here since my HS days but I never saw Dr. Lupo, only her associate at that time, Dr. Sherman. When you enter her building (literally, she owns it), you go 3rd floor and into the reception. Honestly, the only types of people you see here are upper middle-class housewives interested in their botox fix. Anyway, the staff here are friendly and genuinely concerned (despite the doctors...) Had an emergency rash reaction and her office was able to take me in same day - awesome! She immediately looked at my back (thanks mom for your home remedy...it burned/hurt like heck) and prescribed a fancy concotion to slather on my back. What i didn't like was her attitude about my finishing of Accutane ("you JUST finished it? and you're HAPPY?)...then she pushed me to do some laser stuff....uh...no thanks. anyhoo, she knows her stuff and definitely has the credentials to back it up. her office is one of the few businesses back post-Katrina, major props there. read more

She really took the time to listen and see me and my concerns. I had originally went thinking I'd need something more invasive and more expensive. She informed me that I did not. She set me up with a plan and gave me the guidance and rationale (in which I love rationals because I am a nurse and I am always trying to do that for my patients so they really understand why they need to or not to do something.) Never again. I really thought I was going to the best, but was sadly disappointed. Just because someone is popular and does interviews in major magazines, doesn't mean they know what they're doing. I had a pretty bad experience here and will never return. First of all, I arrived 15-20 minutes early for my appointment, but was seen TWO hours later. Finally I'm taken back to the examination room and Dr. Lupo walks in with two Asian Dermatologists visiting from New York and a SkinCeuticals rep. Actually, Andrea H. who reviewed her below was one of the Doctors. I have a major problem with the way she examined me. She grabs a fist full of my hair from the top of my head and yanks my head back to get a better look. She didn't ask me to lift my head, she just grabs my hair and yanks my head back. But that's not the worst. Believe it or not, she didn't know how to treat my skin! I was getting a laser procedure and she had to ask the two visiting Dermatologist what laser she should use on me. They claimed to have experience working with skin of color and recommended a certain laser. Okay. I pay $125 for the consultation and wait for them to test 2 lasers on me to see which one would work. I was the only person in the waiting room, yet had to wait another hour or so to see the esthetician. She zaps me with the first laser and it BURNED ME! I was left with a huge quarter sized, gray blister. The second laser also burned me, but not as severely. This happened in February of this year and I'm still trying to fade the dark marks from the burns to this day! She wanted me to schedule the appointment before leaving, but I was ready to just go home! My appointment was at 9:00, but I didn't leave until 2:30. Yes, I was there for five and a half hours for just a consultation. I left feeling disappointed and cheated out of my money. I called my husband in the car almost in tears and he said "I told you so". I'm always going to these "shishi poo poo" places expecting to get the best treatment only to be let down. I was able to get my laser treatment done by a highly trained medical esthetician who specializes in skin of color and she did a wonderful job! I had 6 treatments done without any burns whatsoever and the hair is gone. It was more cost effective and I was treated like a valued client. By the way, this esthetician isn't at Dr. Lupo's Office. Edited To Add: I've gotten several questions regarding the esthetician I went to. The aesthetician is Torri Jakes at Jakes Aesthetics. She's the only medical esthetician that specializes in skin of color that I know of. Edited to add 4/11/2016: Well, I used my debit card to pay for the treatment and can get the records for you since you don't remember. You don't have a record of my complaint because, like I said, I never returned to your practice. You should be grateful that I didn't raise a fuss. Excuse me for thinking your laser tech was an esthetician. Oops. Maybe if she were an esthetician, I wouldn't have gotten burned. And yes, you do have patients that wait much longer than 3 hours! I'm not the only one to complain about that. That's just a flat out lie because I was there all day! Maybe you're out of touch with what your patients have to deal with. I can pull up my phone records to show when your office called to confirm the appointment. We can even go to the police and they can track which cell tower my phone pinged from if you want. For anyone questioning whether or not to try Botox and fillers because you feel like you look tired and run down, but you don't want to end up looking like a clown, look no further than Dr. Mary Lupo! There is no one I trust more with enhancing my look naturally than her. I use to be afraid of needles and the thought of being injected. But something about her technique and use of distraction therapy keeps me at ease and I literally feel NO pain. I recently came in for my routine visit with her (to help me look refreshed for the holidays ‍) and had asked her thoughts about lip fillers-not to make them Bigger but rejuvenated and to even out my shape. Her nurses and assistants always take my calls and return my messages before the end of the day regarding treatment questions or prescription refills. Yes, you can get fillers and Botox almost anywhere these days but if you are looking for experience and expertise Dr Lupo is hands down the best in the south central region. One can learn quite a bit by observing other patients in her office. There are NO over filled or over done faces to be seen. Dr Lupo uses the tools of cosmetic dermatology with artistry and discretion. There are no "duck lips" or frozen , vapid , expressions walking out of this practice. Dr. Lupo is a God send. She is absolutely amazing. She has an incredibly gentle touch. Three treatments of Sculptra and I hardly felt a thing. Her technique is far superior to others. I have seen a few dermatologists over the past couple of years and Dr. Lupo is certainly the one I will continue to see in the future. I have always had disproportional lips, especially when I smile, my upper lip would "roll in" and disappear giving me a very gummy look. I have used various lip plumping products in the past, none of which seemed to help. I have also considered getting fillers, however, I was always afraid of the "duck lips". After some extensive research, I decided to seek help from Dr. Lupo since she is a well known dermatologist in New Orleans. During my consult with Dr. Lupo, she addressed my concerned and took photos of me from multiple angles in order to study my facial structures and developed a treatment plan with me. After Dr. Lupo injected me with filler, I could see an immediate improvement with my upper lip and my lips looked very rejuvenated and glossy! During my follow up visit, Dr. Lupo took more photos of me and showed me the before and after. I am extremely happy with the result, of course, there is no sign of the "duck lips"! read more

I was here a few months ago and have been meaning to write a review since. I have never had a more awful cosmetic/medical experience than at Dr Mary Lupo's office. It took nearly an hour to be seen even with my appointment, and then Mary came in and immediately very rudely started telling me how awful my skin was. She said something like "you have good eyes BUT...." and then started telling me about the rest of my face in a very insensitive way. I am 33 with some sun damage and acne scars, but I am self conscious about this and was hoping to have a conversation about it rather than this kind of confrontation. Then after recommending thousands of dollars worth of some kind of skin treatment she doesn't even give me what I came in for, Botox in my forehead. I have been getting it for years and was about to go to my sister's wedding, but she refused to give it to me for whatever reason. She said she never gives Botox in the forehead on a patient's first visit, and she said she would give me a Botox brow lift instead, which I had never heard of or requested. I felt put on the spot and really wanted to get what I had come for, I had waited all that time and realized at some point that this would probably be a costly visit just to see the doctor, so I said ok. I had barely any results from the "brow lift" except for looking a bit angry all the time. I still had to go elsewhere to get my regular forehead Botox just barely in time to be in my sister's wedding with weird looking eyebrows, a highly photographed event I will be seeing photos of for the rest of my life most likely. To top it off they charged me $600 for this awful mistake of an experience. Oh and the one of the weirdest parts of the visit was that she was yelling at this poor woman that was training the entire time. I thought at one point the woman was going to burst into tears, I kid you not. It was THAT BAD. It made me extremely uncomfortable. She was over the top rude and condescending to this woman as she typed notes on what she recommended for my treatment. Dr Lupo thank you for making me look as young as I feel!!! Recently waiting for a lunch order at a local restaurant in Metairie and a young lady said "sir are you OK"? I said yes, why do you ask? She said you look tired! I called and got an appointment with Dr Lupo ASAP, received Dysport injections in my 11"s the lines between my eye brows and crows feet. I was looking forward to scheduling an appointment with Dr. Lupo as I have a severe seborrheic dermatitis case. After doing some research, I was delighted to find that she was in network and would be able to treat my condition. I submitted my request online for an appointment and was contacted the next day to schedule. IT ALL WENT DOWNHILL FROM THERE. The first young lady that I called I missed her initial contact and called back almost immediately after she left a voicemail. When answering, she was very personable, very polite and professional. After identifying me she placed me on a very long hold and another woman came to the line. I told the second woman that I was holding for the first one and she placed me back on hold at which time the phone disconnected. No one called me back. I called back again and got a third woman. I explained to her that I was holding for lady number one and she advised me that the 1st person I was speaking to was on a call. How? But ok. So I proceeded to explain my issue to lady #3. She advised me that Dr. Lupo did not have an appointment for another month. I explained to her that my condition was critical and if there were any options to get a sooner appointment due to the severity of my case. She flat out told me to find another dermatologist. I asked were there any other options in office and she said that Dr. Holcomb may have a sooner appointment. From that point we began to discuss insurance. I told her that I had United Healthcare and had verified Dr. Lupo was in network. She then went on to tell me that there was a $50 deposit to schedule the appointment. I asked what was the deposit for and she said it was required to schedule a dispatch as well as to cover the copay or products they suggest. I advised her that I had already reached my deductible so I do not have a copay. I would like to know where does the $50 go if i opt out of purchasing suggested products. At no time did the 3rd young lady advise that the deposit was refundable only that everyone had to pay. It is a shame that in order to get quality service you have to be subjected to these types of business practices. Your new clients are the easiest ones to lose and one was definitely lost here. I declined the appointment and will seek other treatment with a more ethical practice. Gone are the days where doctors are concerned with patient health as opposed to everything being about a dollar. read more

Dr lupo is I am sure a very knowledgeable about her field. She gave me Botox and fillers that looked great on me. Why only 3 stars? The wait times were insanely long both visits, like over 40-45 minutes. The second visit I waited almost an hour, and she came in, hardly spoke to me, did the filler injections and turned around and walked/hurried out without saying anything. Ok I understand you are very busy probably because you triple book yourself, but I am spending hundreds of dollars and just waited an hour to see the doctor so....to make matters worse she got me in the cheek and told me that it would probably bruise, and had 2 assistants hold ice packs for a few seconds, then leave me in a room alone holding ice packs on either side of my face with the instructions to hold for 10 minutes and then I should be ok to leave. When I asked who i could go to to check, both told me they had to leave for lunch break. So. I sat alone and then left....sorry dr lupo but your over scheduling or whatever is what made you run over your employees lunch breaks not me. It was such an aggravating experience that I have no plans on using her again, even though the actual work she did turned out fine. read more

Since when do doctors charge a $50 deposit for new patients before they will book an appointment? I was going to make an appointment but didn't. We have insurance that covers 100% after the deductible is met (which it has been). This was not for cosmetic issues, it was for a medical issue. Never heard a doctor charging a deposit before. They have this many patients cancel on them??? Then why the month and a half wait too? read more

Reading these previous reviews I decided to weigh in - I've been seeing Dr. Lupo for 20 years now, beginning with injections to reduce my leg veins, then went on to treatments for increasingly maturing skin. I appreciate Dr. Lupo's matter of fact advice and approach. I appreciate that she never "over does" anything so that my husband never suspects that I've had any procedure/treatment. I guess that is the main thing. Occasionally I wish she had done more, but I always look much better, and doing too little is WAY better than doing too much. I trust her advice. read more

I am about as picky and ridiculously skeptical of any dermatologist as anyone I know. I researched and researched and researched doctors in the New Orleans area until I cam to Dr. Lupo. She is not only 'right on' with her assessment of your skin needs, but she's efficient about doing it. Her office staff is very patient and courteous and professional. But most importantly, Dr. Lupo is honest and conservative about your face. She's not going to let you do anything crazy ;-) Great doctor, great staff. read more
