My son and I have been students at the school for over 15 years. I recommend this school for many…read morereasons: - The school is run by husband/wife team Paul and Maricar Jakubowski. - Their philosophy is: we're martial arts for those who need it. (not the cutthroat Cobra Kai type of gym.) - The male/female student ratio is about 50/50. - The curriculum includes defensive moves which allow students to defend themselves in school situations without getting charged as the aggressor. - My son (who is often quiet at school) has made lifelong kung fu friends, who he chats with every day online. The overall school spirit is one of friendly camaraderie. - Self-discipline, character, and (of course) fitness are part of the curriculum. - Most classes are "Family classes" which accommodate all skill levels. This allows parents and kids to train together in the same class block. - My son and I trained together for several years, and tested for our black belts together at the same test session, which was very meaningful for me.

My family has attended classes twice a week for more than five years. Phenomenal instructor staff,…read moreadept at teaching all skill levels and ages: the classes are largely designed for parents and their kids to attend together. Shi fu Paul makes a special effort to make the place inviting and fun to children with needs. It's also been great to see moms and dads test for black sash with their kids. Also excellent strength and flexibility training, learn to use traditional Chinese weaponry, what's not to love?

My family has been very happy at Shihan Marc's Karate Academy…read more We shopped around and tried numerous other places. One seems too babyish, one seem too much like an afterschool program, one was much too crowded, another was too far away. We finally settled on Shihan Marc at first because of the location. When we went to the studio it was clean, attractive and inviting. Although the classes are full, it doesn't feel too crowded.(most of the time) Shihan Marc and Sensei Erin are superhuman in their ability to make each kid feel a part of things. They are kind and friendly and remember everybody's names. They integrate the new kids quickly. I'm taking my kids to Karate to learn discipline and respect. I feel that Shihan Marc's is definitely about fitness, respect, discipline, but they have fun too. It's definitely a huge commitment to go twice a week indefinitely. We signed up for a year. I wasn't sure how it all worked until we had already done the introductory classes. Had I known what a commitment it was, I might not have taken that first step. But my kids are doing well, and seem to enjoy it. The depth of growth that we are investing in will take time, but I know we are doing a good thing and I can't think of a better place for them or better teachers. If you're looking for a Karate school in the Timonium area, this is the best by far.

Very great program and flexible schedules to meet the needs of all the families Shihan Marc serves.read more
