Stopped in for lunch on a road to teip to California. Husband and I had salad with ranch, chicken fried steak, green beans, mashed taters, roll, and sweet tea. Daughter had salad with blue cheese, fried pork chop (8oz), French fries, corn, and roll. Entrees were cooked to order and breaded on site. The corn/green beans were canned, but not terrible. French fries were good once salted. The mashed taters had an oddly firm texture. Flavor was fine, just seemed unnaturally firm. The outside of the building has seen better days, and the interior decor was a chaotic collection of clearance aisle decals and school sports jerseys. The service was friendly and helpful, but with the place being packed, our salads were forgotten until we asked. However, that's the only negative comment for service. Don't sleep on the pork chops! The chicken fried steak was good, but the best food on the table was the pork chop. read more

We were visiting the area and found this gem online. A great little restaurant with charm and local ambiance. The service was outstanding, and the food was delicious. I had the chicken fajita salad -- such a creative idea. Fresh lettuce topped with grilled fajitas and served with tortilla chips. Hubby had the patty melt, prepared the old-fashioned with fresh hamburger cooked on a grill. The owner, Mary, was in the dining room chatting with customers. Marys is small with a rough exterior, but they serve decent comfort food that is consistently cooked well. Nuttin fancy. When you come in seat yourself if theres an open table. Service is usually pretty quick and the waitresses are often friendly. It does fill up quick at meal times though especially on Fridays when they have their catfish and shrimp special. I recommend that and the Swiss chicken (especially if you love bacon). Theyve got some great taters too whether its the hand cut fries or that killer mash with brown gravy. I cant recommend breakfast however. The portions are large, the prices are reasonable, and the owners are good people. Marys is one of our favorite places to eat lunch/dinner in town. Maybe some don't care too much for the decor but take a second look.. The walls are covered with tokens of appreciation for their support/donations. There is a lot of love in this place. They truly care about their customers and community often making a round to make sure youre happy with your meal and chat it up with locals. If you have a bad experience they wont hesitate to make it right. Weve come here to eat for years and only had one bad experience. The manager was paying attention though and he knew we were done wrong. We didnt pay for a thing and he took full responsibility. That meant a lot to us. read more

Friendly service and cute atmosphere. Now for the food - I ordered the Stacy's Toaster which the menu said it was a fried egg, bacon, hash browns and cheese. Well the toast tasted like it was grilled on week old grease, the cheese was some cheap American cheese that didn't even melt, the hash browns were soggy and the egg was scrambled and over cooked. I ordered a pancake just because I love them but even that was doughy in the center. Server got busy so she didn't come back and check on us till it was too late but when I explained why I didn't eat it she said sorry and didn't even offer to discount it. I was staying at a state park nearby and got tired of my own cooking. I love chicken fried steaks and have had them all over the nation, and usually get way more bad ones than good ones. The one here had a bad presentation and didn't look tasty but surprisingly was tasty. The steak was tenderized properly but the breading was dark and not the right texture. Ask for the gravy on the side because they do it backwards here and put the steak on top of a plate full of gravy. I didn't care for that! The green beans and roll were store bought and bland. We stopped in while on a long trip from LA to Atlanta. The location is a few minutes off the freeway, but don't let that stop you. We instantly knew that was had found a gem. We arrived before noon, but the small parki g lot was full. We walked inside and were immediately welcomed. We grabbed one of the few remaining tables and looked over the menu. The staff are open, friendly and warm. Walking in, you feel like family, and instantly know it is a favorite amongst the locals. They know most folks by name and it creates a perfect atmosphere. We had been planning on eating breakfast, but were informed they had already switched to lunch. Switching our mental tastebuds to the lunch menu we made our choices. I ordered the Philly Cheese steak and my dad ordered the chicken sandwich. We both got side salads with honey mustard. The side salads came out and were delicious. Crisp and fresh. Definitely a luxury after the fast food joints on our hourney. The honey mustard even gets a mention because it was incredibly good. Some of the best I have had anywhere. The Philly Cheese Steak was a gift to my tastebuds. I don't feel like I can say anything else because mere words would detract from this simple but tasty masterpiece. My dad also really enjoyed his chicken sandwich. The ingredients for all the food was so fresh and amazingly prepared. Bottom line, you need to eat here. read more

The moment I walked in, I thought that I was being watched by everyone in the room. It's a very small town, and I'm not sure they like seeing people from outside come into their local restaurant. The food was very bad and I couldn't finish it. The mac & cheese tasted as if it came outout of a box. I just had mac & cheese at another barbecue place it was delicious. Drove 20 min out of my way to try this place due to yelp reviews. While the food was good & fresh, with GREAT thick tasty bacon!!!.....overall Id guess its under different management or ownership from previous reviews. Portions were far from huge or large, but for the normal to lighter eater its just right & does not leave you stuffed (see my pic of their "breakfast platte w/bisquit" & special requested gravy. Biscuit was fresh but gravy wasn't anything special, the bacon was really the only stand out staple on the plate. I stood next to their counter/bar upon arrival where I was never greeted, ended up having to ask if I could sit anywhere as seating was limited.....& that is a HUGE red flag/turn off for me eating out.....as I usually never go back to places who can't even greet their guests properly. I was never offered any more coffee after the original cup was served, however the waitress did walk by & ask how everything was.....this was before I needed a warm up on the coffee......& this is another major turn off for me at restaurants when they don't check up on their guests drinks. Got a to-go coffee at checkout. Good laid back small town cafe atmosphere, but lacking some old school waitresses who know how to provide 5* customer service. The condiment shelf & roll of paper towels at every table is a NICE touch not found often. Prices are very reasonable! Not worth going out of the way for, but passing thru its the place to eat.....actually it looks like the ONLY place in town to eat. If not for customer service basics failing, would've been a 4* easy. read more
