My sister and I went for lunch and it was absolutely horrible! The vegetables were not seasoned. Butter beans tasted like crap, cabbage was the worst ever, livers were flattened out and tasteless.The rib-eye was a little sandwich steak about 1/8 inch thick. My sister ordered it medium-well, and it came out raw and bloody!! The only thing even remotely edible, were the dinner rolls which came right out of the pack!! Did we voice our complaints? YES! Absolute hole-in-the-wall grill, with no ambiance or redeeming charm, convenience store with a grill - the kind of place that you hope will result in a momumental hot dog discovery. Close, but no cigar! The place is old, dingy, really worn looking inside and out. There are some counter seats, a few plain, serviceable tables in the back - the menu is on the wall, and it is broader than one would suspect, walking into the place. - yet still the usual grill items They serve breakfast plates, sandwiches & biscuits, burgers & dogs, and a variety of typical sandwiches. The food is rather inexpensive - the hot dog is $1.19, a cheeseburger goes for $2.75. The hot dog was good, not great - the bun was on the stale side, and the chili is a little weak, and thinly applied. With a tweak here and there, this place could produce a very good Southern chili dog. The Cheeseburger is a typical diner one, on the small side, but with pretty decent flavor. Not a destination dog or burger place, but I'd stop by if in the area and needed a hot dog/burger fix. read more

Came into Ma's for a morning hot dog. Probably the definition of a dive but all the folks behind the counter were extremely friendly during my visit. I got a hot dog with chili, mustard, and slaw. I REALLY liked their slaw. Super creamy and all minced. You got a bit with each bite. You may not find yourself in Kinston often, but I'd recommend swinging by Ma's. read more

The hotdogs tasted like potted me..definitely not beef. The fries were delicious. I asked for a replacement on the hotdog and they gave me a hamburger and the bun looked like someone stepped on it. It was flat like it was grilled but it wasn't grilled. ..it was just flat...I was so disappointed that the cook would serve me that...I was too appalled to take it back. I just wanted to get out of there and never return, never ever return. Their hotdogs are not beef and do not taste like a hotdog. Stopped here on my way back to DC for a hotdog and they definitely didn't disappoint. Got two foot Kong's with everything and it was perfect. Love the atmosphere, people are nice and the hotdogs are as great as the hospitality. Haven't had a hotdog like this since I was a kid. If your passing through definitely stop for one. read more

Well this was a find. Along the lines of Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. An out-of-the-way place that looks like not much on the outside, but that's okay because it's what's on the inside that counts. So when you walk in you immediately leave this Century behind and enter the 1950s. And I'm talking 1950s Deep South North Carolina. Heavy accents and the feel of that deep south culture, although technically this is not the Deep South. At lunch time it was packed with locals which is always a good sign. The prices, well not nineteen-fifties era, you're very reasonable. And the food quality is great. Very tasty. If you come at lunch time - expect to wait about 10 minutes for your food. It's cooked right there in front of you. It's funny how long that Seems in this day of instant gratification, but it's worth the wait. I'd go out of my way to come here again. As much for the food as for the refreshing step away from the rat race, instant gratification, look at me culture of today. Highly recommended. read more

Every time me and the ole lady are in the area we make a point to stop by and get a bite. Would recommend this place to anyone. DO NOT USE YOUR DEBIT CARD HERE!Went by and got lunch, 2 cheeseburgers and tea $8.00. Have heard good things about this place and working in the area was looking forward to stopping by. the tea was good, cheeseburgers were good but not so much the chili. I'm pretty sure they don't make their own chili. but over all it was ok not terrible not great. So, I used my debit card to pay and was told they had to run it for $10 my bill was $8 but they would give me the $2 back in cash. Ok, or so I thought. The next day on my back statement I was charged 1 charge of $11.29, and 1 charge for $2.50 because I had used an ATM machine that was not my bank? I called Ma's and was told the debit machine charges $1.29 per transaction, and the $2.50 was a charge from my back for using an ATM that was not theirs. so, for my $8 lunch I was charged a $3.79 surcharge. They have nothing posted saying that you will be charged this, and pretty much was like oh well when I complained about it. Won't be going back there. read more
