I am very suprised by these reviews. The parking is average. We had a reservation at 630 pm. We were still standing outside at 7pm with our 88 year old parent in 90+ degree heat as there was no room in side to stand. We ended up getting a chair from the outdoor bar area. The food was average. It says that they cut the beef at your tableside. If that is true, we did not see it that night. They do bring a cart out with a sample of what you order but it was definitely not cut there. The waitress was very nice and the salad bar is good... but the price vs quality of steak in my opinion was not worth it. read more

Hands down the best steak I've had in years! During our visit on a recent weeknight, the grill chef expertly walked us through the night's offerings table side with his rolling slicing cart - the Angus beef selections included ribeyes cut to order, gorgeous pork chops, chicken breasts, beautiful 8oz filet mignon steaks and thick sirloins. After having my ribeye cut to a very generous 14 ounces, we helped ourselves to the signature salad bar, one of the two sides available with each meal. All the veggie offerings looked fresh and the condiment and dressings selection was over the top. Pro tip: save room on the top of your salad for the smoked oysters tucked away at the end of the salad bar. Other entree side options included baked potatoes, twice-baked mashed potatoes, steamed onions, mushrooms and grilled asparagus. Our delightful server, Lisa, was very attentive -but not hovering- keeping our drinks topped off and checking on us as we waited for our entrees to arrive. Just as we finished our salads, my dining partner's perfectly cooked half-pound burger arrived along with my ribeye. The burger was a massive half-pounder, cooked to order - smokey, juicy and stacked high with cheese, lettuce and a perfect tomato slice. My steak was spot-on medium rare and featured sear marks that would have made any competition griller jealous. The meat was perfect seasoned, juicy and had that backyard-grilled flavor throughout. Both dinners were served up with an amazingly fluffy baked potatoes - practically the size of a small infant- and buttery, charred bread. We were treated at the end of our meal to the house-made Hershey Bar Cake - four massive layers of the fluffiest cake you've ever tasted, layered with sweet cream cheese icing and featuring shaved Hershey's chocolate throughout. We heard about Carl and Chelle's and decided to give them a try! It's your down home - Mom and Pop steakhouse. The decor definitely needs to be brightened up and updated. Everyone was super nice! The restaurant and rest rooms were clean. They began to fill up quickly, so although not required I would make a reservation. I was quite shocked that they still had a public salad bar! I'm not a fan of buffets or shareable bars, but I got a salad and it was good! Our server was nice and she came around with a cart with visuals and then an open piece of meat that you could choose the cut of your steak if you like. I wasn't a fan of bringing the steak to be cut to the table, but that's just me. Our food came out in good timing and no one had any major complaints, but the asparagus was a little too charred. Also for the shrimp some type of butter sauce would have been delicious. I would have also enjoyed a good sauce for the chicken breast. We did not indulge in dessert because I made a cake at home, but they do have homemade slices of cakes/pies if you would like dessert. They have their own parking lot and most dishes were about $25 and up depending on the steak you choose. Overall a pretty good place to enjoy a good meal quickly! We were treated very poorly at Carl & Chelle's Grill Room. The Ambiance both inside and outside was sub par and the service was condescending, unprofessional and unpleasant. This is not a high end restaurant (they have a salad bar next to the door upon entry). We were served cheese wiz in a cup with packaged crackers to start. The wine list is the cheapest wine you can purchase at Walmart. They wheel out a cart of meat to take your order. The food is meh.. the steaks were cut VERY thin, and bland. The twice baked mashed potatoes were instant potatoes with cheap cheese melted on top. Not worth what we paid for. Dessert.. we tried the pig picken cake, but it was terrible. It was sugar free and made with canned oranges. A definite skip. We also got the lemon pie. I honestly think it was a dream whip pie. Not an upscale dessert. This place is very overpriced. If you are into Walmart redneck chic this place maybe for you.. otherwise try somewhere else. My wife was given the recommendation for Carl and Chelle's Grill Room in Goldsboro and was told that the steaks here were the best in the state. We traveled out to Goldsboro last week on a daytrip and decided to make a reservation in advance because of the limited seating. According to their website they only have ten tables and seating at the bar which is small. We were able to get a 5pm reservation. When we arrived the place was busy and all of the tables and bar stools were occupied. The restaurant is obviously a converted roadside fast food eatery. However, they have done a good job with the interior decor and vibe to make you feel that you are in a high quality restaurant. This place is a restaurant that harkens back to what restaurants were in the 1970s and 80s. The dinner menu is simple (one page) and no appetizers are offered. Instead, you get a basket of crackers and cheese and a choice of a house made salad or the salad bar. Of note, one visit to the salad bar is one price, multiple visits costs more. The entree menu is straightforward with a Cowboy Ribeye (for two), Filet Mignon, Sirloin, Ribeye (for one), Pork Chops, Grilled Chicken breast and the "Signature" Steakburger. Sides include the shrimp skewers, baked potato, twice baked mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, steamed sweet onion, steamed mushrooms and baked sweet potato. These sides are also offered ala carte. There is also a steakhouse cobb salad on the menu where you can add chicken, steak or shrimp for an upcharge. The service here was fairly quick and a little rushed. Probably because they were booked with reservations for the evening and needed the customers served and out. A staff member came around with the steak choices and took our orders. My wife and I went with the Cowboy Ribeye while my son went with the burger. One oddity, no fries or chips come with the burger. You have to pick from the sides selection on the menu. He got the double baked mashed potatoes. I went with the baked potato and my wife the asparagus. The Cowboy Ribeye was a little small however, it was cooked to perfection and the seasoning on it was great. And, it didn't have that big bone protruding from the end that you would see in other steakhouses. My son's burger was "ok" according to him and the side of the mashed potatoes was a small scoop. Prior to our entrees we opted for the one trip salad bar. It offered your usual selection of salad bar items. My wife did point out what she thought were hot dogs. I said they were Vienna sausages. I don't remember seeing those in salad bars but I could be wrong. For desert we got coffee and the caramel cheesecake. It was ok but a little too sweet for my taste. The restaurant's food and service is pretty good. We had a good meal after spending the afternoon in the Goldsboro area. It was really a 3.5 to 3.75 overall. Yelp needs to change their rating system to some sort of sliding scale to reflect reviews that are between the rating numbers. Would we visit again, probably yes. If your in the area and are looking for a nice dining experience, check them out. read more

Honestly, this place is overhyped by a long shot. How this is rated one of the top steak houses in North Carolina is beyond me. Their ribeye is great. It's what you would expect at any nice steak house. The salad bar is fine and has plenty of selection. The staff, well, the hostess was kind of a grumpy pants. She didn't seem like she wanted to be there much. However, my waitress was good! What kills this place to me.... Is the ambiance. It's literally an old Pizza Hut or something. It's got the old, worn out, broken benches and just black painted drop in ceiling. It needs a serious facelift. read more

This is my second time visiting the area and other than working, dinning is practically all we do when in town. We have probably dinned at 90% of the restaurants in Goldsboro and this is absolutely by far the most impressive of them all. I had the rib eye on my first visit. I like a well done steak but when I order well done, I'm usually disappointed with a dry steak that's been cooked too fast. Not here! My steak was cooked to absolute perfection. Crispy and caramelized on the outside and juicy, tender and full of flavor on the inside. The second time I visited I had the pork chops and when I tell you these were the best ever! The meal came with two good sized pork chops, one side and a piece of Texas style toast. I chose the sautéed mushrooms and I could have eaten a hundred of them. My coworker says the deserts are freshly prepared and are quite tasty. I'm looking forward to trying the cheese cake on my next visit. We usually order to go and they ave some great deals on the carry out menu. If you're planning to dine in, I strongly recommend making reservations because they are very busy all the time. Tried this establishment for the first time on Valentines Day..... made reservations days in advance. When arriving they had plenty of space but the atmosphere was terrible and stuck my wife and I out in the middle of all the traffic moving around the restaurant, so people's germs and hair could fly into our food. The wife ordered a steak but ended up getting sick from the waiter taking the same big hunk of meat around the restaurant to every table once again to let everyone's germs contaminate the meat that would be later served. Our waitress was absolutely terrible.... Had to ask other waitresses to fill our tea glasses multiple times as our waitress was MIA. Waitress was lucky she received a tip at all. First of all I would like to say I will not be going back to Carl &'Chelle's to eat EVER!!!. I called up there to ask if I can use a gift card I had and the young girl that answered the phone said yes we could use it online or come inside to place an order and use it then. So we placed our order online. When we got there they told us that we could not use it. I was so upset so I ask to talk to the manger her name was Lisa and she told me I could not use it. So I told her the young girl that answer the phone said we could. So I ask her well can you at least give me a discount for the mistake and she said no. So I was like can you check me out and she just kept taking care of other customers, and ringing up their orders. She was just ignoring me all the way around. We went on Wednesday, Nov. 8th for my son's birthday. Food, steaks were meh. I thought for the price we would get a bread basket, umm, no. You got a grilled piece of texas toast. Nothing to knock your socks off. "Salad bar" was a table immediately to the left when you walked in and there was little to nothing to choose from to put in your PLASTIC bowl. The waitress was subpar. She acted like she couldn't have cared less. A guy (kid) came through with the meat on the cart and took our order. He had on tennis shoes, shorts, t-shirt, and baseball hat and took our order from an ipad. It was weird. Ambience is horrible! We sat in a both where the table was so high it was up to my shoulders. Other tables seemed sort of normal height. Ceiling is black with harsh overhead can lights. There are black leopard print or zebra print curtains. There were small votive candles that were practically melted. and they were on the wall about 1/2 way up between the tabletop and ceiling. Oh, not to mention the PAPER napkins.
