Worst home insurance company ever!!! I would've thought that a company with the Berkshire Hathaway…read morename would conduct business better than the experience that I went through. There was a hailstorm in our area in 2024. I witnessed literally every neighbor on the side of me, in the back, in the front and throughout the neighborhood get new roofs. But somehow our roof was not approved. Not to mention I submitted a claim back in October that did not get settled until March. The lack of communication and status updates was egregious. I had to constantly reach out to the property adjuster after weeks of no communication. They sent two engineers to our home to look at the roof and somehow they determined that the damage was not sufficient enough for replacement. And to top it off, a few months later, we were notified they would no longer cover our home and we were being transferred to another company. If I could give this company 5 negative stars, I would. And that wouldn't be enough. As a customer, you pay these insurance companies so much money every month, but then they want to find every reason not to pay you when they are needed. I would never recommend Berkshire Hathaway - Guard to any family, friend, or stranger.

This insurance company is about as bad as they come. They have very inexperienced people working…read morethere who display very poor customer service and little knowledge of the insurance policies that they are supposed to represent. I believe there is also constant turnover which contributed to the lack of organization and horrible service I received. All adjusters and supervisors are incompetent and downright rude. Over the period of a year nobody answered the phone and hardly any of them ever returned calls. I had to call 10 times for every time I received a returned call. One of the units in an apartment building I owned was engulfed in flames due to the negligence of a tenant. I used ServPro, who was supposedly a preferred vendor of theirs to perform the rebuild. When I submitted my claim, the first thing the Guard adjuster told me was that ServPro was overpriced and suggested that I use another vendor so that "my claims would not be denied". Of course, this is very unethical business practice and I should have reported him from the beginning to the state Dept of Insurance.. In addition, I had no choice because I had already entered into my contract with ServPro. This was obviously a sign of things to come, because almost every claim we submitted was scrutinized and cut into pieces! The company reps are all based in a podunk town in PA but they were determining the costs for a rebuild of an apartment unit in Beverly Hills, CA! Absurd! We had to hire an independent adjuster to intervene so that we could get most of our costs reimbursed. The adjuster, William Ardoline also made many errors in his computation of the loss claim reimbursements, sometimes cheating me out of $30k in one particular check due to a mathematical error! He also made many mistakes as to the coverage limits of my policy as he was denying many items that should have been covered . I asked the reason, he told me simply "read your policy!" When I pointed out his mistake, he just casually admitted to it without giving me so much as an apology. He obviously never "read the policy" himself. It was a good thing that I am a CPA & attorney, so I caught the errors immediately. I could imagine how the average person could have been so easily cheated of so much money because they would have not been able to catch it as I did. Complaining to his supervisors did not help. They were just "CYA types. One supervisor, Nora, started yelling at me for no reason. When I asked William why she did that, he responded that she just had a fight with her boyfriend and was in a bad mood! Very professional! These are the people I was dealing with! To add insult to injury, after about 3 months, I received a letter of cancellation of my policy stating as the reason that "insured was difficult"! Talk about the teapot calling the kettle black! After about 1 year of back and forth battles with this company and many unreturned calls later, I finally received the last of my payments. After this dreadful experience, I cancelled all of my policies with them! They were the cheapest at the time, but obviously for very good reason! The agents are all rude and incompetent and trained to deny every claim! This is why insurance companies have such a bad rap! Shame on Warren Buffett for allowing this culture of "delay, deny & defend" to prevail in his company!

What happened is absolutely ridiculous and my son is gonna be looking for another company. He had his jeep insured. He added a 1987 truck. Not full coverage on either due to vehicle ages. He was quoted the same rate as the jeep. About 85 or so a month. 2 mo ago he got rid of the jeep. So it's now a single payment of about 85 for the truck. He was paying extra a month, $102 total, having split the payments up for adding the truck. Last month I called and it was the last of the extra payments. Got his 6 mo renewal showing payments will now be 73. Was told yes that's right. Open up today's mail and it's now 165! Called and his account shows the renewal for 73 a month was mailed but the new renewal for 165 a month was not. Agent looking into it said its because the jeep was dropped and the truck is more to insure due to size. That's NOT what we were told when initially insuring the truck! That's NOT what we've been paying besides on this truck from the start!!!! That's NOT what the renewal papers said either!!! He may be 18 but has been insured thru this policy since he was 16. No tickets, no accidents, and only one towing incident that was towed only a few blocks. How can his rate go up like this when we weren't even quoted that from the start or even paying this amount!!! We didn't even totally seperate his vehicles from mine so he could still have multi car discount. I still get it on mine. He just gets seperate bill to pay. Needless to say he's switching companies in the near future
