After searching and searching I literally was about to give up and just elope, but then I came across Kingston House. We managed to snag the last summer weekend that would work for our schedules and I am so, so happy it worked out. As a wedding venue: The venue was everything I'd hoped for. The property is enormous, lush, and well cared for. There are so many beautiful little areas that each have their own feel. From fields, to a huge pond, to forest, to gardens, you name it. I loved how people could explore and enjoy the day without feeling squeezed into a small space or told they can't roam. It was really important to us that our guests would feel comfortable, and they did! We had a beautiful early summer day so we could go with our Plan A option of having our ceremony in front of the pond and the reception up above. But Matt has some great alternatives that would work if the weather is bad. This was a big anxiety reliever for me because of course the weather here is unpredictable. I knew that even if it rained, we'd have a beautiful spot for both the ceremony and reception. The location: Kingston was a perfect spot for us. We had a lot of people coming from Seattle and Bellingham, and a good group flying in, as well. Kingston is the perfect distance to feel sort of like a destination without actually requiring a huge trip for people. Our guests could drive home if they wanted, or rent a property nearby (there are LOTS of options). And of course, adding a ferry ride is fun! As long as you and your guests know how to plan for it, that is. I was relieved that none of our guests misjudged the timing and everyone made it there when they should. The driving directions were also super easy to follow, so no one got lost. And Matt's team was there to help guide our guests into the property and find the best place to park. The house: I mean, the HOUSE! We stayed Thursday night just the two of us (highly recommend) and then both of our immediate families stayed with us Friday and Saturday nights. There was plenty of room for everyone. But honestly this house was freaking magical. Every square inch was beautiful, styled to perfection, comfortable, and full of history and character. Matt has an excellent eye and has filled the home with interesting and super aesthetic furniture, art, and knick knacks. And then of course it's perfectly stocked and comfortable, and had everything we needed and more. It's such a gift that we can also go back to Kingston House someday since he rents it on Airbnb. We're planning to come back for sure, and hopefully make it a family tradition. Matt: Matt was so great to work with. Responsive and communicative, helpful, and so committed to making your day/weekend perfect. He really knows how to host a wedding and has clearly done this many times. He brought a wonderful level of calm to the weekend and has incredible attention to detail. He puts so much thought and care into the home and property, you can tell he takes pride in it. And he should! We loved working with Matt and look forward to seeing him again someday when we come back. Also he has a very cute dog, bonus points!

The grounds are beautiful, and the staff were great to work with. During the planning session, Matt helped us with ideas and made sure the bride and groom were happy with all the plans. The wedding was scheduled for mid-May and Mother Nature threw us a very last-minute curve ball. Matt and his staff jumped into action to move the ceremony spot to the "In case of rain" location. As the evening went on, it got colder than expected and once again, Matt and crew jumped into action to get the heaters up and running without the guests ever noticing. Everyone had a great time. The wedding party had a gorgeous and comfortable place to stay for two nights. We could not have asked for anything more. We highly recommend Kingston House!!

I do not recommend this place…read more The hall itself has potential--it's an old opera house converted into a Masonic Lodge--but it has serious limitations. Overall, it's shabby and not well maintained. The restrooms are old and dirty. The tables and chairs are old and frayed. We paid a lot of money to decorate the hall just to make it suitable for our event. It is poorly ventilated and it got pretty hot. The street outside the hall can be noisy (there are two café/bars across the street). They claim to be renovating, but I suggest that you look very closely at every nook and cranny. And look very carefully at the contract. When you rent the space, you have to be very attentive to the contract--they will ding you with extra charges for every crumb not swept up and every time you walk through one of the spaces you did not pay for. I did not get my damage deposit back because the caretaker--who did not leave instructions on how to clean and did not tell us where the cleaning supplies were and did not inspect the hall when we left--claimed we left the place a mess. He's wrong and I'm out the deposit.

The ballroom also comes equipped with a kitchen for use during rentals. Chairs, rectangular/banquet and round tables are available for set up. A projector can be accessed and hooked up to a laptop for presentations, movies, videos, etc. It's quite an unassuming space from the outside, but definitely worth a look if you're on the search for a reasonably priced venue for a gathering of 100+ in the Greenwood neighborhood.

Many other local lodges also use this building for their meetings. The building is available to rent for weddings, receptions, classes, and other community activities. Rental spaces include a 1500 ft sq. dining area complete with a commercial kitchen. Upstairs the lodge's 2000 ft. sq. meeting room is also available for use. The decor is staid, but very user friendly. It's also handicapped accessable. One of the many lodges that meets here is St. Johns' #9 which has been working in Seattle since 1860. You'll find they're often in the background of such events as the Freemont fair, Seattle Youth symphony, Dr. Maynard's grave restoration, elementary school reading programs and a small project long ago... the location of the University of Washington here in Seattle. (The four columns by the HUB were carved by one of the brothers around 1869 - a guy named Denny.) Probably the most enjoyable and entertaining lodge that meets at Greenwood is Daylight Lodge 232. A lodge formed for entertainers and others who worked nights. They've been meeting in Seattle since 1920 and are still centered around the arts community. They're the cream of the crop when it comes to events in Seattle. They do big-budget, high quality, over the top, awesome events. They do smaller events too but this is your go-to space if you want a customized party for over 1000 people. There's a stage, there's state of the art lighting, white walls with projectors to project movies, images, etc. They even have different sets and packages so you can do soft seating, tables, classrooms, or whatever you could dream up. I've come for large scale cocktail parties, I've come for networking events, and I've come for themed holiday bashes and dance parties. They can truly do it all. The staff appears to be well organized and there's always, always staff easy to find for load-in or questions of any kind. Whenever I see an event promoted and spot that it's being hosted at Fremont Studios, I know it's going to be good.

However; none of this is worth dealing with this family. I got married there a little over six months ago and it has taken me this long to be able to relive this experience by witting a review but people need to know this information. After spending well over $12,000 for supposedly the weekend of a lifetime I'm still haunted with terrible memories. I'm not high maintenance and require crazy high customer service but I do expect my family and myself to be treated with respect. The morning of the wedding my mom locked herself out of her bedroom after a shower. Stupid accident yes, but the way it was handled was downright atrocious. Long story short my mom and I ended up in tears. You'd think a venue of that 'caliber' would have an extra set of master keys right? Wrong. A locksmith was called out and the cost we were told would be taken out of my deposit. After the big ordeal and we were let back into the room with very little time before the wedding, everything went off without a hitch and my husband and I were happily married. When booking the venue it states in the contract that all music is to be off and guests gone by 10pm. What they fail to inform you is that the owners will show up at about 8pm and stand around hovering in the corners breaking down any tables or chairs that we not being used. The table linens that I purchased and brought in were also being stripped off the tables and thrown into garbage bags without any permission. There was complete and utter disregard for the event still taking place. This venue is also very meticulous about clean up. Understandably so at the time knowing how beautiful the venue was. Sadly I regret everything about this venue because although clean up was planned I have yet to meet another bride who spend the morning after her wedding sweeping a 2400 square foot barn with a push broom. I have been working in the wedding business for three years now and although still very new with a lot to learn I will never ever recommend this venue to a single one of my brides. My husband and I are going to Vegas in a week and plan to have a 're do' wedding and get married by Elvis for redemption.

Be sure to come early to get a glass of cider, wine or beer. The cider and wine are made here at Eaglemount. Lovely staff here behind the bar and taking tickets.
