I'm finally back in Macon after 10 years and now have a new store to visit for my essentials. They have a $15 deal that gives you a few fresh produce plus several other items to halfway fill up the cart - then you get to pick 10 for $10 of other select items. Lots of items that I can eat, not just junk food. Then the rest of the store is full of Dollar General items that are half of the retail cost! WOW

I had 10 minutes to spare today so I dropped in and found they had a great sale going on: all blue and white tags were buy 1 get 2 free. I got 3 shirts for $2. WOW. On top of that I found a pair of high top Converse for only $.99, and any true Chuck fan would know that's a SUPER deal. I also got 4 books (all @ $.50 a piece) and a nice beer mug for $.69. The location may seem a little shady (it's on Broadway for goodness' sake) but let that not deter the true treasure hunter!

A huge disappointment is how I would describe Meals on Wheels of Middle Georgia. After several…read moreweeks of receiving five frozen meals each Monday, my relative ended up getting a box of canned goods this past Monday, which was supposed to last a week. That was a joke. I called to find out what happened and was told the frozen meals were no longer available. I said I wanted to discontinue the service. I received a call back from Meals on Wheels, saying they had found some frozen meals and get them out to my relative's home that day. It never happened. I called twice and left messages to find out what was going on. I have yet to receive a call back. Zero customer service. Done with them.

I'm not sure if i should be rating the home itself, but i'm rating the mtn bike trails here…read more for a long time biker, this is a pretty good trail. it's a little confusing for the first time as there are numbers all over the place and they don't go in order. and there are several bypass trails that shortcut several times. but it is fast singletrack, and since my odometer has been broken for several months now (too lazy to repair it), i'm not sure how long it is, but i've read it's about 5-6 miles and it takes me anywhere from 30-45 minutes to complete. the local cross country team runs there, so if there's a meet there, you won't be able to ride. but it's nice and shady, paralleling a stream at some point, through pines and forest, and it's just a really good trail for a quick ride after work. if you are a trail runner, beware of poison ivy as it is rampant.

This group struggled in the past, but they have a new member on board who runs multiple programs…read morearound the state with great success. The housing is being worked on, and they have started planning renovations to additional buildings that were not up to code for a long time. There is a very bright future for these young adults. There is talk of a transitional housing program for the young women who leave the grounds when they reach a certain age, so that they have a better rate of successfully transitioning to independent living. There was also an addition of a part time teacher on site to help get the students back on track, as some have trouble in the Bibb County School System (not surprising). I am very excited about the new ideas and hope that Macon will re-discover this program with positive, productive, and respectful opinions.
