    Harbor Stage Company - A scene from 2015's "A Doll's House"

    Harbor Stage Company

The intimate setting of the theater, about which much of the conversations in the play was about, created a warm personal atmosphere among the 60 or so who had this great experience. I had a lovely conversation about life's purpose with a young lady Victoria afterwards where we shared our love for the play and for the work of Virginia Woolf who also touches so deeply and beautifully life's wonder and sad fragility. Yes, we should have more great art like this to inspire us to cherish and strive to perfect, not our foolish facades, but the reality of community of all our ghost-like souls who struggle so hard during this short time on earth to find love, meaning and happiness. Thank you actors and playwrights who made this possible. The folks who worked there were also so friendly and welcoming. The actors were superb. I was amazed at how they could remember so many lines of the wonderful convoluted conversations. I wish more people could see this play. It is a magical combination of humor and philosophical depth about what truly matters in life.

This is the kind of place I want to see theatre. I saw "A Doll's House" at Harbor Stage and I had…read moresuch a great experience. At the heart of it was, of course, the actors. Talented professionals (with serious credits, all of them). Clearly with their heart in their work. The company has a really interesting combination of plays, which seems to be the pattern from year to year: a classical play (A Doll's House this year), a brand new play (an original play inspired by miners), and a contemporary play (Detroit, nominated for the Pulitzer last year maybe?). Added bonus was the physical environment of the "Har-Bar"--the lobby of the theatre (wine, beer, coffee and tea) that looks out to the harbor. And the harbor itself. (The theatre is aptly named.) Steps outside are benches to take in the view. There are a couple of places to eat in walking distance. There's a sit down place next door and a take out window at Mac's seafood for sitting on benches next to the harbor. I also loved the volunteers. I got to the theatre early because I had never been there and wanted to check out the space. There was a positive "buzz" from everyone there. There seemed to be a real sense of not only happy to be there, but proud to be a part of this company. So cool.

Excellent Excuses; POOR Maintenance…read more It's the bike shop you want to love, but can't. It's got a cute name, great locations, is friendly, and family run. We rented twice in the 2021 season, a total of five bikes. Almost all of them had maintenance problems ranging from the annoying to the trip-stopping. One bike seized up on the trail. The excuses and apologizes were convincing and friendly, so we came back for a second go. Worse. Example: One kids bike crank seized up. That's not a mishap. It's the result of not cleaning and repacking the crank bearing annually, which should be normal routine maintenance for rental inventory. Example: A half-hour later they showed up with a replacement bike and an excuse, but the technician refused to stay until our child fully tested it. That bike had a front derailleur and shifter so gummed up and dirty that it took superhuman effort to shift. Our child could not operate it, so plod along with no front derailleur. Example: Three bikes had grimy tacky grips. They excused themselves saying last year's sanitizer destroyed them. Ok, but why didn't the replace them? They claimed they can't get any because of covid. I took that at face value, but then checked on Amazon that same day. I can order any number of brands, delivered as soon as tomorrow. So a bald-faced lie. Example: Two other bikes had one inoperable derailleurs each. Each and every problem would have been avoided by modest routine maintenance. But with every bike rented, I guess they figure, why should we bother? One reason is a review like this. Try another shop.

The Furies Cleaning Service of Cape Cod

The Furies Cleaning Service of Cape Cod

This is a situation where you need to be able to leave NEGATIVE stars, but certainly at least Zero…read more I honestly cannot believe how horrible this company is, and as I told them, I am looking forward to hearing the news that they have filed for bankruptcy. They were bought a few years ago by "Cross Services Group" and I thought they would be better under new management (the old management notoriously treated their employees terribly.) While I cannot speak to their treatment of their employees, I can tell you that if they treat them anywhere close to how they treat their clients then they are absolute monsters. It started with the deepest cleaning I could pay for at my mother's house who sadly passed away in April. When I showed up afterwards, it was still filthy. I literally removed over a dozen daddy longlegs spiders from corners including even in the shower! Baseboards, light fixtures, nothing had even been touched. So I called them and told them how unhappy I was and that I wanted to speak with someone. I was promised "Warren" would call me right away. It had now been over a month and he has still never called, even though I called them back 2 more times and told them he never called. Then I had my first regular cleaning and the ladies put Murphy's Oil Soap all over the painted basement floor, making it very sticky and slippery and causing the paint to come up. I asked them to please never do that again, but I wasn't even mad about that , just bummed because it has made so much more work for me and made my mother's tenants really annoyed about the sticky, slippery floor. The second regular cleaning the 2 guys where there for literally 40 minutes (I know, because I was there on site) and all they did was pass a mop across the floor and a quick clean of the kitchen and baths and for that I was charged $450. And they left without making the beds which really upset me a lot because I was exhausted and stressed following my mom's funeral and I DID NOT WANT TO MAKE FOUR BEDS BY MYSELF so I called and called and emailed them to send the guys back with no response. So in tears, I did it myself. The final cleaning something really weird happened, because I showed the guy the light blue sheets for the King bed in the dryer and left before he made the bed.... but then the tenants called me later to say there were no sheets on the King bed. (Side note: I find the concept of paying for linen rentals absurd for my tenants so I provide all of my own nice sheets and towels for them.) I told them that they must still be in the dryer accidentally, but they were not. They were just GONE. I called the Furies multiple times to ask them to please just find out where my sheets accidentally went AND THEY WILL NOT CALL ME BACK. Maria absolutely promised me she would call me back, and didn't. I still have never heard from the imaginary guy named Warren. Look, it is just a stupid set of sheets, I already ordered a new set -- but it is just the principle of how NO ONE WILL CALL YOU BACK. I am not even going into the total BS fake "meeting" I had at my house with one of their "managers" at 7:30 in the morning when I requested could I please just talk with someone in person? The girl had NO IDEA that I was even upset about anything, or what was going on. It was a joke and she accomplished nothing. Oh and one more thing, they were supposed to do a deep spring cleaning on my Wellfleet house today which I scheduled months ago BUT THEY FORGOT ABOUT IT AND DID NOT HAVE IT ON THEIR SCHEDULE. Anyway, this was my second horrible cleaning service on Cape Cod and I basically decided that I could not rent anymore because the stress of dealing with these POS companies is not worth it. (I did actually find an angel from heaven and his wife who are now cleaning for me and I LOVE them, but up until that godsend I was truly not going to rent anymore.)

I would have given zero stars to Furies if it had let me. We rented linens and towels from Furies…read morefor five beds, one of which was a king. The king sized sheets did not fit (see photos). We had to drive to Target about 20 miles away to purchase a king sized set. I sent an email to Furies the next day (May 26th) and they apologized for the problem, promising a refund. I replied, thanking them for rectifying the situation and asked when we might see the refund back in our account. They responded saying that they only do refunds by check and that they would be sending it out "soon". My husband has called and spoken with Alex, four times, I believe, over the last few weeks. These are the excuses that he heard: "Sorry, the company has 'switched' hands" and we are just finalizing everything;" "the 'switch over' is complete and checks will be cut soon;" "the checks should be cut today;" and most recently "the checks were processed today and you should receive it by Friday (July 29). We have not received any checks. It seems that we were just getting the run around. Very disappointed in this company. Because of this horrible situation, we will likely not book any places that do not provide their own linens.
