The manager Lauren at the Dumfries Massage Envy insisted during the COVID emergency outbreak that if I was to cancel my appointment due to COVID symptoms, she would charge me for the entire 90 minutes massage. Indirectly, their protocols are set to force the community to continue spreading the virus. Their methodology to promote business forces our community to attend their appointment to avoid losing the entire money invested. This institution needs better auditing of its rules and policies. This practice needs to be informed to the health department of prince William county and perhaps the CDC etc.
Secondly, I have a note from my surgeon that clearly states that I cannot yet return to massage envy until cleared by the provider. The front desk associate Krystal asked that I keep the note with me until I visit for my upcoming massage. She insisted that driving over to bring the doctor's note to place my account and my mother's account on hold was unnecessary. Since I would be the one bringing my mother to her scheduled appointment, they refused the note from the provider and abruptly closed both accounts. With that said, they gobbled up roughly 15-18 hours of massage in total, and each hour roughly cost nearly $ 70 dollars. I am at a loss for all the money. I plan to contact the health department to file a case regarding forcefully coming in when I was experiencing COVID symptoms. The manager begged me not to report to the Health department and CDC and insisted that we would resolve it. And now she won't consider my post-surgery recovery time to heal and kept on yelling on the phone and telling me to stop talking when I was so frustrated as a customer regarding being unable to come in when I am not fully recovered and unsafe policy for our community safety by forcing people to show up when they are ill. This institution has, however, called me a couple of times on the same day to cancel the appointment because the therapist called in sick; in other words, it's okay for the facility to cancel on the same day, but it doesn't apply to clients who are bringing in business. My experience, as most people mentioned in their review post, is that they are booked 80% of the time when you call to make an appointment. Yet, the monthly payment gets taken out. that is why I accumulated so much massaging because of lack of availability. The management automatically took monthly payments when I first registered membership with them.
The manager Lauren went ahead, despite the doctor's note, and removed all of the hours accumulated in the entire account without giving heads up a week or two to provide an update. I got to know this after they played a game on me by calling me to ask if I could come in the next two days because they had canceled, upon my agreement, instead of bringing my mom in place of my appointment so we could utilize the hours, the Krystal at the front desk mentioned the massages are no longer active and that I talk to the manager. It was a setup on purpose, which is very unethical. From day one, I have been highly discriminated against by this Dumfries facility; perhaps I am a person of color. Lauren didn't listen to any of my concerns and went ahead and removed all the paid messages from my and my mom's accounts. I have filed a complaint with evidence (My doctor's note clearly mentions that I am not to return to massage envy until cleared by the Surgeon) with the better business bureau. I will have my attorney work on this case to present it to court along with the surgeon's presence to defend this inappropriate allegation towards me, which is not justifiable. It is frustrating because, as a provider, I would hate for my patients to go through this experience, especially if they take the time to recover as per their provider's recommendation and indirectly feel forced to utilize the massage sessions or else they will lose prepaid massages as the institution charge monthly amount automatically whether you use or not, which makes it very difficult to catch up with all these prepaid massages and barely any availability. They don't have enough staff to run the clinic, which could be why they often make overstatements about no availability for months in a row.
