It is difficult and complicated to sever ties even after the contract is fulfilled. Once they get their hooks into your credit card, watch out. Yesterday I went to the Mesa Massage Envy location for the first time and was surprised to see a recently renovated, modern looking ME! This place was cool, I've never seen one like it! The entry lobby alone caught me off guard with its modern look and new wood look floors. They also have concrete floors through part of the facility where the open massage tables and massage chairs were... I was shocked to see the massage table in my private room had LED lighting underneath the table - super fancy! One thing to note is that they do NOT have a quiet room like most of the other locations I have been to, which was a downside. read more

There also seems to be frequent staff changes at the front desk, which may contribute to some inconsistencies issues with accepting e gift cards and in booking over the phone. Due to recurring front desk issues, I'm considering visiting a different ME location nearby for a smoother overall experience. FOR THIS MESA ON POWER FACILITY: BRING A PRINTED COPY OF YOUR E-GIFT CARD: If you're using an electronic gift card, be sure to bring the original full-page printout. This franchise is continually overcharging. I received a facial here as I have done many times before. First, I have never had a facial where neck and declotee were not included. However, apparently this is not included anymore and it was an upcharge, to which I wasn't informed. Second, upon answering my "skin care questions", the esthetician "recommended" a certain type of facial. Apparently, this facial was TWO credits, which I was never told. Had I been, I wouldn't have got it. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SIGN. When disputed, they told me I "signed" the waiver, which I thought was just permission to do the facial. While they ended up not charging for the neck and declotee because of my complaint, they said it was "company policy" to not be able to reverse the credit. Ridiculous! My daughter had been through a few rough weeks, so I thought "what could be better than a massage!" We had never been. I booked appointments at the same time. The scheduler called them side by side massages. Who knew this was just her cutesy term for 2 appts occurring at the same time, but not in vacinity of each other. My massage was great. MADISON instantly put me at ease and let me direct our session (I'm chatty, she let me be) My poor daughter!! She is 19, and has been dealing with the emotional side of a new medical diagnosis. During the 'intake' portion, her technician,Soledad, stood, leaning up against the door frame listening to the conversation. My daughter listed the new condition and continued e-paperwork. At the onset of the massage my daughter's condition was brought up, only as a springboard for the tech to overshare all the intimate details of her own medical history, including inappropriate suggestions about how to manage it. My daughter was encouraged to try all the trendy weightloss injectables, fad diets etc. When you are on a table with someone touching you, the last thing you need to hear is "YOU'RE FAT!" At 19, my daughter stands 6' tall and weighs 190.she barely even falls into the overweight range. No one deserves to be treated that way...especially at a vulnerable moment. Soledad continued to tell her that she CAUSED herself to develop this disorder with her obesity (It is inherited, the only way to cause it is by being born to a mom with the gene.) Through her teen years she had pretty bad backne that left pockmarks and scarring on her back. Soledad told her she could only massage her feet and calves. Brokenhearted by this treatment, then that news (her shirt was never off/lifted), my daughter agreed. Then the tech ended up briefly falling asleep during the treatment and her hand/arm fell very ungracefully off my daughter's leg. She recovered, snapping her head up and denying that she had been dozing. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS ONE. I left my contact information with the receptionist that checked us out and asked to have a manager return my call the next business day. That day is now over and guess what? Yup, no call! My daughter hasn't been herself all day. This has to be the foulest of foul treatment. AVOID. If I could give negative stars I would. read more

Every time I have gotten a regular aesthetician at this location, they end up leaving because of unfair treatment. My favorite aesthetician, Mia, who worked there for several years moved after being treated horribly. Although this location is 5 minutes from my house, I go out of my way to drive to the Higley and Baseline location to get MUCH better service. I would avoid this location if I were you. read more

I am only giving 2 stars because I love the service providers at the Gateway location (Megan and Lester are awesome!). Massage Envy, in general, sucks. I signed up in about 2007 in TN. The monthly price was $39. When I moved back to AZ in 2010, the Bell & 3rd St location told me I had to transfer my membership to their location from TN. (I later learned this was not true because my ex-husband didn't have to transfer his and still hasn't transferred him to this day and now he is in CA.) I later learned my membership price increased to $55/month. I did not approve this. (My ex-husband told me it was because I transferred the membership to a different location.) Apparently when you transfer, the new location automatically changes the monthly price to their current location price. I did not approve this. It might be in fine print somewhere, but I got no notice of this or I would have canceled. I recently learned that my price increased again to $65/month - again, without my approval or knowledge. I have asked for a copy of my original contract a dozen times and have never received it. They say a manager has to get it and they will leave a message for the manager, or they say they have to order the contract from TN. In AZ, it was hard to get evening appointments (I work full-time during the day). Then, in 2016, I had a really bad car accident and couldn't get a massage for over a year so couldn't use my credits during that time. (That was before they had facials.) Then, in 2020, COVID hit so they were closed for a while, but I still had to pay every month. Last year, I shattered my hip so I couldn't get massages for many months. You can freeze your account so you don't have to pay the monthly fee and you can still use your credits, but you can only freeze it for a couple months and you have to pay $20/month for that "convenience". I cannot cancel my membership or I will lose ALL of the credits I have paid for but have not been able to use - 30+ credits now (over $2,000 worth). They do not let you use the credits after you cancel. So, I'm trying to work full-time (during the day) and use up all my credits with available appointments in the evenings. They also change their gifting policy regularly to make it harder to gift your credits to someone else. To gift a credit, you have to pay $20. But, now you can only gift once a month, and you can only gift to the same person every 6 months. I'm stuck. I'm trying to use my credits and gift them as much as possible. Don't get sucked into this membership, especially now when the price is $75/month. Support your local, private massage therapists and estheticians. read more

Overall, the services are good. However, I do not encourage getting the membership. It is not easy to cancel. You have to sign forms, and they do not refund you regardless of the circumstances. Because of their practices and how aggressive they are with their memberships, I will no longer use Massage Envy's services. Signed up for a monthly massage package with promises of easy appointment access. I work for the city and own a company so I am always on the run. Since getting the membership I've used 1 credit. They just kept stacking up, when I would try to book they are always a week out, they never have availability... I call all around and nope everything is booked... then I'm told I could use my massage credits for a facial.... Wtf, I didn't sign up for a facial package. So I cancelled my membership.... Now the store manager has literally lashed at me and told me I can't use my credits unless I restart my membership.... How is this legal?! They keep your credits hostage till you give them more money?! I've filled a complaint with the BBB and even then they decided not to respond. If I ever get my credits I'll use them it give them away. I will never recommend this shiesty massage envy sales tactic to anyone! * * * Update on situation: they sent me a message asking me to message them tk get the situation handled. I messaged them and have gotten 0 reply. It was a smoke screen hoping yelp readers would think they are trying to fix the issue. They have no interest in fixing the issue. Then they will claim you have so many points, then once your service is complete, you all of a sudden have less points and owe money. The front desk girls will even lie for one another. If you decide to use the McKellips location, make sure to use due diligence. They will steal your serenity and your $$$! read more

I've been going to Massage Envy for about four years. I signed up for the monthly 1 hour massage that gets added to my account for under $60 per month (the price may have changed). I had about 18 massages pile up during my time in school and they were saved on my account. When I could finally go and get a massage, I used 90-120 minutes and it helped bring down the number of massage I had on my account. Sometimes I would get an hour facial, and then an hour massage to burn through the amount of hours I had accumulated. A Tip: Massage Envy can put a hold on your account if you have too many massages saved. You pay about $25 a month to freeze the account so no more are added, but you can use the massages you already have without getting more added to the account. Each massage I have ever gotten have been great. Of course some are better than others depending on who you get. The masseuse communicates with you to make sure they are helping you and you are comfortable during your session. You can dress down to the level you are most comfortable. I'm glad I have a place to go to that will work out the knots in my back, and help me feel human again. read more

Funny how they respond fairly quickly to positive reviews. But I have yet to receive a response or information to file a formal complaint with the Attorney General's Office. I called several times and asked for this information and they always say they don't have it. The fact they use me being upset and disgruntled is a gaslighting tactic to deflect responsibility. Giving them a 1 star on every platform I I'm sure this is another one of my complaints that will be met with poor guest services, apathy, or just plainly ignored. It started out fine with Message Envy (not great, just par). This is expected with being a chain, no offense meant it's just what guests expect going to a large corporate business. It won't be above and beyond, it's average. However, I was very mislead in even that expectation. I signed up for the membership, I never ONCE was able to schedule a massage in a time frame that fit me. I then started getting auto scheduled, I would call and was met with "oh sorry you have to cancel your appointment" (which I never scheduled) "we can reschedule that for you" I'd give a specific date and time, "oh sorry we don't have anything available for six weeks". Maybe I'm an odd duck and don't have a schedule 6wks in advance to see if that would be good for me. This went on and on for 12 months!!! My entire contract. I called to cancel, the woman that answered the phone Yasmin (jasmine) said she would email the cancellation form, I was frustrated with the lack of services and I told her as much and let her know that I thought this was a SCAM and I would be writing about this on social media to deter anyone else from being a victim of your company. She called me back after I hung up and said she would not send me the form for cancellation because she deemed me rude and disrespectful. She clearly is not trained in deescalating frustrated guests, she has a smug apathetic view and seemed to enjoy seeing me frustrated. She said I would have to go to the store in person and speak to a manager. I said fine. I immediately went to the store Jasmine was at the front desk, I asked for a manager and she in a very mocking tone said "no you won't be speaking to a manager right now because she's not in" so I asked again for her to just cancel my membership. The therapist spoke through the entire 90 minute massage and spontaneously disclosed incredibly inappropriate information about her life and relationship. The therapist compared homosexuality to having challenges like spina bifada. Professionally, if there were issues, I should have been told at that time of call. I was not. 2/22, 8AM I show up for appointment @Massage Envy @6626 E McKellips, Mesa, AZ, the desk clerk gives me a pad form to complete & off I go for my facial. NEVER a word mentioned of an issue. Facial was good, young lady was good. I proceed to leave a tip for the service provider using 20. on a gift card. The desk clerk informs me I owe 65.00 for today's facial, "how would you like to pay?". I explained, that is incorrect and gave her the scenario. She was intent on computer screen when the manager came out from the back; Manager Anaya, informs me they calculated incorrectly, and I owe for today -- "how would you like to pay?". I responded that "Massage Envy @6626 E McKellips, Mesa, AZ's error is owned by them. I was told and booked this appointment using up my cancelled membership, and I came for the service today simply to use up that membership, w/no intention then or now, paying for something I was told I had a credit to use. Manager Anaya tells me, "Well, we have your card on file so we will just charge that." I told her they haven't the right to charge that without my permission, and I will dispute the charge with my bank." I walked out. I live five minutes from Massage Envy @6626 E McKellips, Mesa, AZ; once home I checked my bank account; sure-enough they submitted the charge to my card. A complete violation, charging my card "OUTSIDE THE SCOPE OF CONTRACT". The mgr Anaya took the liberty of charging my card, without my permission, with a card that was on file for my membership, which was cancelled. IMPORTANT TO TAKE NOTE OF: 1) If "they" @Massage Envy @6626 E McKellips, Mesa, AZ made an error in "their" calculations, "they" had the responsibility to reach out to me. You don't let the customer receive the service w/the understanding it is already paid for; then after the service inform the customer @Massage Envy @6626 E McKellips, Mesa, AZ they owe for it. I should have been given that choice to proceed and pay or walk away, PRIOR to the service. 2) ALWAYS, inform a customer a mistake has been made in charges, prior to the service they were previously given the information it was already paid for; NOT after, nor with the attempt to charge the customer regardless of their approval status. Especially in the event the customer was receiving the service under the agreement it was part of their membership that needed to be used up. 3) As a business owner or representative, charging a card outside the scope of the contract, is not only bad business practice but may be illegal. ALWAYS inform & receive approval for any charges that fall outside that scope. I recently hurt my back due to a covid cough. The docs in the ER told me I am not contagious and I have been out of quarantine for about 10 days. I stopped by the store this morning and explained how I hurt my back and they didn't say a word about the covid and made me an appointment for this afternoon. I went in, filled in their questionnaire and was taken to a room. I explained the same scenario to the therapist and she told me to undress and lay face down on the table. She left and was gone a very long time. When she came back she said they were refusing service because I had not retested with a negative result for covid. You know, that is all well and good but why did they make me an appointment in the first place??? I certainly understand their position but to make me come back, get undressed then tell me???????? Went in today for a 90 minute with Ben. First time I have been in this location for a out six months. Went today because my girlfriend told Me about Ben. Ben was INCREDIBLE! I told him I was a Runner and he catered a massage to fit in with my personal needs as an avid runner. He was professional and really did an amazing deep tissue sports massage focusing on my legs and glutes. The massage was worth every penny and more. It appears the masseuse are rushed from appointment to appointment, because even when I showed up 15 minutes early I still never got a full appointment. (2 occasions ended 10 minutes earlier) My biggest issue was how they handled billing. I would combine my months and go every 3 or so months sometimes more. I recently changed my card so they weren't charging me. They waited 3 months and we're very rude to my wife when they called. They wanted me to pay all 3 months at once to get it back. I had a 5 star experience in this location. I received top notch customer service from the receptionist, the other staff and especially my therapist Kenna. Kenna was very friendly, approachable, asked questions and she really listened. She really made me feel comfortable. And boy, as soon as her hands started working I knew instantly she was gonna be good, and she was awesome! Just the right medium pressure for me, and I told her my focus areas and she really made extra time to work on my knots. By the time it was finished, my neck and shoulders felt like a baby's butt. lol Before that it was hard as a rock! Kenna was just so wonderful from start to finish. The waiting room and the whole place is also very very clean and relaxing. If I had lived by this location, I would have signed up for a membership in a heartbeat.
