I was trying to think of the perfect term for the management there and this is it, "Greedy corporate blood hounds". This review is for the managers there, not the massage staff, as they have decent therapists, some good. The big issue with this place and why I cannot wait to quit (I have to use my 56 massages I've accumulated because of difficulty finding a good therapist) is because it is simply impossible to have a relationship with people who don't care about you and will literally steal from you. Today I showed up for my massage appointment at 3:00. I always show up for my appts and show up early or on time. This time they said my appt had been at 2:00. Hmmm, that's not what I had and I had confirmed all my appointments the day before in person. They said they called me twice. Hmmm, I received no calls. They later realized they called the wrong number. The manager said she heard her employee confirm my 90 minute at 2:00. Hmmm, I didn't remember that. I only booked one appointment for 90 minutes and that's for next week! I received no text message or confirmation call for this 2:00 session, but hey, I could have made a mistake, and so could they!!! But, they wouldn't entertain a possible error on their side. Nope. They charged me $160 for a "missed appt", never mind that I was there at 3:00 and if I had truly missed the appt, theyd still be able to give me 1/2 hour or try to make it right some how. No caring response at all!!! You weren't here at 2:00 , you get charged even if they made a mistake. I got charged $160 because I had opted for a CBD cream and hot stones which they tacked on for (not for this session, but they think I did because they made a mistake in my opinion), since I have that appointment scheduled for next week. If they wanted to compensate the employee, then charge me what they give her. It's wrong and it's stealing. No only is "the customer is always right" dead at this establishment, the truth is, "the customer is never right and the staff matter more". I tried to call them back to discuss and I find it weird that all my calls go to voicemail every time. This management does not care about you at all. They do care about paying their staff and paying themselves and taking every time they can from you. I've had numerous issues with them where I have seen, this is a Corporation , not a healing center. Just know that going in. You will be charged for everything. I started at $59, used to be $39. Now I'm at $80/mo. They charge you an extra $5 per massage if you use another location. They charge you and extra $10 if you want to give a massage. If I wanted to freeze my membership to try and use all my session, they charge $20/month. It doesn't end. But, the real tragedy is the relationship between you and the therapist and the staff can't get a foot hold when money is the overriding goal of the institution. Not healing and community support. I was having pain in my leg that was so severe I could hardly walk. She worked my peraformis... and not walking was history! Over the years I have had more than a thousand massages at spas across the US as well as Europe and Asia. Massage Envy of Montgomery ranks near the top of the list in terms of quality, service and value. I have a standing appointment for a weekly one hour massage The owners Frank and Alice are wonderful people and Heather is an excellent massage therapist. I find the waiting area comfortable and the whole place exceptionally clean. If the room or table is too cold or too warm, I only need ask and the appropriate adjustment is made. The key is: Ask! It's important to understand their business model. As a member you get a 50 minute massage at a significant discount. However, if you are satisfied with the massage your gratuity must be based on the regular fee and not the discounted price. It is the same concept as using a coupon or having part of your meal "comped" at a restaurant. You tip is based what would have been the full cost of the meal. So, when the front desk staff or the owners explain this concept, it should not be construed as "pressure" but rather trying to ensure the therapist is treated fairly. There are also signs around the facility that explain the policy. I recommend Massage Envy of Montgomery without reservation. read more

I appreciate everything about Massage Envy. Often I call at the last minute and they are usually able to accommodate me. Since all the massage practitioners are excellent it really does not matter who I have. However I do have favorites. There is flexibility to this program. If something comes up and I have to cancel I know there will probably be someone to take my place. Its a very good system. the people are great. read more

I bought a 60 minute deep tissue massage for my best friend for Christmas. The massage therapist used rubber gloves and seemed reluctant to apply any real pressure during the so-called "Deep Tissue" massage. My friend complained constantly during the massage and to Alice (one of the owners) at the front desk. We were told the massage therapists used gloves because she has a skin condition. I responded she shouldn't be performing massages. I would never go back to the Massage Envy in Skillman. I have had at least 10 massages for myself and as gifts for others. 2 days later I am still waiting for a call from Frank the other owner as promised by Alice who suddenly became an owner with not ability to resolve my displeasure with their services. read more

What a way to ruin a good massage. I saw Beth, who was nice enough and the massage was pretty good actually. But then I go to pay, and the woman at the counter reminds me a little too firmly about gratuity. I always tip although I am in theory opposed to the principle. I tip because it's a social norm-- I don't need an older woman condescendingly telling me what to tip. My intro massage was $49. I was going to tip $10. I understood that massages are normally more than the intro rate. But the $10 was because Beth started 10 minutes late and finished early too. But when I was paying and explained I wanted to put $10 towards tip, the older woman, in the most patronizing of tones decided to tell me that they recommend 15 or 20%, and pointed to a glaringly large sign which I had seen posted everywhere, and then reaffirmed-- "so you mean $15". I told her, "no I mean $10, thank you". What a way to ruin a massage and encourage people to not come back. Maybe Beth normally starts and finishes on time, and maybe there's normally a nicer person at the desk, but who knows? read more

I've been to several Massage Envy locations, and have had good experiences, but a few weeks ago I had a HORRIBLE experience at this particular location. I would recommend avoiding at all costs. A few things... 1) I went in asking for Gloria to work on my back. She maybe spent 3 minutes out of the 60 minute massage on it. She saved it for last 2) ..and about that "60 minute" massage...it lasted only 43 minutes 3) The massage room is located in the Fitness center where the walls are paper thin. I could hear the receptionist chatting on the phone for the whole duration of my "massage" 4) When I asked the masseuse why she didn't work on my back, she said she ran out of time (hmm...see (2) above). She suggested that I have a "glass of water and that I would feel better. Total clown school of an establishment. When I tried to call the Supervisor (Christine) it took 3 attempts to get her on the phone, and when I did, I didn't get an apology or any sense of customer service. I've been to many massage envy a around the area. I didn't even know there was one so close to my house. I recently hurt my back working out, and possibly from work itself. I had such terrible back pain I could barely walk, let along lay flat on my back. I went to the doctor, and she said, yes, absolutely go get a massage. I called around, and eventually scheduled an appointment with Sandra (I almost don't even want to share her name, bc I want her all to myself! ) 1. The ambience Older massage envy, not as nice as the newer one on New Brunswick, or even the one in East Brunswick. No separate private waiting area, and the massage tables were t really even that heated when I laid on it. 2. Sandra She is 100% the reason why I am giving this place 5 stars. She talked to me about my back pain prior to starting. I don't know what she did, but her depth, and the ways he stretched me were absolutely amazing. Needless to say, I wasn't able to lay flat before I started, but was able to as soon as I left! I recommend Sandra to anyone with any kind if muscle aches and pains, especially lower back pain!! read more

This location is not helpful when trying to contact someone regarding a membership. I have called several times, each time they say I must speak to a manager and take a message and no one returns my call. Finally a manager did return my call and accused me of lying about calling to change my membership due to health reasons. I tried to explain that I had called and left messages and she still said it was "odd" they wouldn't give her a message which made her think I never called. Unfortunately I won't be returning to this location ever again. I am sad the manager was not well equipped to handle a simple customer service call regarding a membership issue due to health problems preventing me from using my monthly massages. I have been to numerous spa's over the years but once I found Massage Envy in Montgomery I looked no further, and not only because it is convenient to my home. The business is professionally managed by Frank and Alice who do a marvelous job at hiring competent and caring therapists as well as providing a warm and welcoming environment. Over the past 3 years I have not once visited when I have not been asked upon entering if I would like something to drink or if my massage met my expectations, upon leaving. The establishment is clean with soothing lighting, pleasant music and an overall relaxing atmosphere. My preference for therapists are Frank, Michael, Darren and Heather but have used many others who have proven to be quite good. Each one has addressed my individual health issues and shown concern for my comfort by asking if the pressure is ok and if the table temperature is to my liking. I have called countless times, last minute, to schedule an appointment to aid a worsening migraine and the staff has always been very accommodating. I feel like I am treated more like a family member than a client. I couldn't be happier with this well run and friendly establishment. read more

I have been a member here for years. Beth is a magician!!!! The owners greet me by name and everyone is so friendly. Jess at the front desk is fantastic. My work schedule can get crazy but they always accomodate me. I have experienced significant relief from migraines and back pain. Not just a spa massage, Beth really works on the right muscle groups and I always leave feeling great. I definitely feel like a valued member. They have awesome customer service. I have been here twice on 2 seperate occasions for the 1 hour intro facial and 1 hour intro massage. Facial - I was taken in about 5 min late and then another 5 min to change, ok fine. The rooms are nice and the beds are comfy. They don't use any machines except a steamer and a magnifying lamp. My skin in not that sensitive, but the products were burning my face. The lady did not do too much extractions, only when I told her what about my nose.....then she said, oh, yes, you do have a few blackheads. Also, when she massaged my arms, there was no energy at all, just rubbing with cream. There is no high frequency machine, so don't look for that. The worst part was she used a warm towel to remove the mask and proceeded to use the SAME TOWEL to wipe the cream off my arms. Yuck! In the end I told the lady it was great. She told me sorry for not having the high frequency machine and left the room. There is a huge clock in the room, so of course I noticed the facial ended 5 min early, so it was a 45 min facial. Massage - Once again, I was taken in 5 min late, but only 2 min to change. I really like DEEP TISSUE and she concentrated all on my back, neck, arms and head. She did a great job and I'm very hard to please when it comes to massages and facials. At the end, once again it was 5 min early, but I guess they take into account the changing time, but it DOESN'T TAKE THAT LONG. But, the massage was still GREAT! Terrible- As soon as I walked in the place smelt like cigarette smoke. Therapist did not wear shoes so the entire room smelt like sweaty feet. Massage was supposed to be an hour and only lasted 40 minutes. You could tell that the therapist did not want to be there. Extremely unprofessional business. I was there twice and disappointed both times. First time (I had a gift card) I was paying difference by my credit card I was asked 4 times front of the other clients if I wanted to put the tip on my card and I had to tell them 4 times I tipped the persons in cash!!! Second time was the worst I book a massage and facial 3-4 weeks advance (I had a gift card again) and confirmed the appointments. when I showed up for my appointment I was told I didn't have any appointment and they acted like I'm stupid and I have no appointments with them. Later I found out that therapist had called out, instead of calling me (little curtesy) they cancelled the appointments from their schedule and acted there was no appointments. I was the stupid one who thought I had one!!!! I wanted to speak with the manager there was no manager and the receptionist didn't know managers last name and the head office's phone number. It was very very bad and I don't recommend this place to any one... And of course there will be no visit from me and my friends.... What a shame !!!!! read more
