With the holidays, trips, and birthdays in full swing, my back started to feel very tight and achy. Instead of waiting two days for an appointment where I usually go, I booked the first thing that I could find for the next day. Huge mistake! Upon going into my room, Chance asked me if there were any specific concerns. I told him that I wanted to do the traditional Swedish massage with aroma therapy, thinking the relaxation would help my back. As i proceeded to mention the muscle tightness, he didn't let me finish and told me to undress to my comfort and left. I should have left then. As he massages my back area, I realize there has to be knots there, and my back feels better when massaged in a certain area. I ask him if he could feel any, and he says oh yes. I asked him if that was bad, and he said it's subjective. Well thanks Mr. Professional. That helps me understand a lot. As he finishes my legs, he tells me to turn over. I ask if we could just focus on my back because it was my main area of concern. He rudely says we will after I turn over. I turn over, and he proceeds to massage my leg. Before he starts on my second leg, I ask again if we could focus on my back and neck area. He said we will finish up there and proceeds to massage both of my arms. When he finally makes it to my neck, with little time left, I ask if I can turn back over because it was hurting. He says if I turn over it will hurt worse and he proceeds even though I'm in obvious pain. At this point, saying anything is pointless as I've been rudely dismissed from the start of this session. When this nightmare and total waste of money is over, I get dressed. As I exit the room and began to walk down the hallway, he laughs. I chose to ignore it as I don't waste my energy with that type of behavior. I wish I had of waited the two days to go where I usually go. One thing is for sure, I will never return to this place or any Massage Envy ever again. My time, money, and referrals will go where I'm treated like a decent, paying customer. read more

This was hands down the worst massage I have ever had. Chance was recommended by the receptionist when I called so I booked with him. I've never had a male massage therapist so wasn't sure what to expect. I had spoken with the front desk before my appt. and the guy I spoke with was so kind and made a particular comment. I also thought he said he'd be doing my massage....When Chance came in the room I asked if he was the person I spoke with on the phone and he said rather abruptly WE (as if he's a special breed) don't man the phones.' He left while I undressed and then returned. Never a word was spoken which is my preference but he was ROUGH. Thinking maybe my muscles needed this, I tried to tolerate it for a bit but said 'ouch' out loud probably 3 times....no response. Then I'm shaking crying and when I could finally take it no more, I said 'Okay...that's all I can take.' He quickly responded 'Fine. If you want to end the session here I'll meet you up front.' He wasn't up front but the kind young man I apparently spoke with was. He asked me how I felt. I told him I felt as if I'd been beaten up and because this was a prepaid gift card, I left immediately. I always have a great massage, I usually see Cindy or Tiana, both are really good therapists. Tiana has this thing she does with moist heat I really enjoy when my muscles are tight. Cindy does a great job stretching me out before she gets started. I wish they all would use warm massage oils, cold lubricants on a warm body has a chilling effect. I still recommend. read more

What a rip off my membership has been since 2020. I had my appointment cancelled today with less than an hours notice, with no weekends available for a month or more. I have 27 hours built up. I try and transfer my hours to other people, which of course cost a $10 fee and can only be done once every 30 days. I have been on freeze plus, which cost $20/month for third time! If you don't have the staff to accommodate existing memebers, stop taking new members and waive the freeze plus fee. Or refund me for my accumulated hours, or let me transfer them to other people for no fee. I do not recommend signing up for a membership. They will rip you off when you can't use your hours. I even tried to book out for the weekend of 4/1 in SC, and they are already completely booked. I travel for work, and try to use my hours when I'm out of town but it's every location that has this same problem. read more

I have been a member of Massage Envy for 20 years. My membership started in Florida and then when I moved to Alabama I was thrilled to find a massage Envy in Mountain Brook. The staff has always been wonderful and especially so at the new location in Lane Park. Trina was my therapist for many years and sadly she has moved on. Yesterday I had an amazing massage by Meg. I arrived with a severe headache. I contemplated not even going but boy am I glad that I did. Meg was very knowledgeable regarding beaches and the related muscles and trigger points. She made several recommendations for at home care between appointments. She definitely has a healing touch and loves her profession. I booked myself weekly massages with her and highly recommend her to anyone with similar issues. Btw, I suffer from a very old whiplash injury that was not treated properly and causes me to have recurring issues. I cancelled my membership on November 1st to start seeing one of the therapists at at their own office. I did this via email on the cancellation form and then had to call them almost three weeks later because they were still charging my card. They apologized for not seeing my cancellation form and then called me a couple of days later to confirm that the account had indeed been cancelled. Now, here we are approaching mid February, and I see that they still continued to charge my account in December, January, and February. This is annoying. read more

I have never seen the business model that a 60 minute massage for $130 is actually only 50 minutes because 10 minutes are for dressing. My 60 minute massage actually only lasted 45 minutes even though I was on time (early actually) and the consultation was maybe 2-3 minutes. Sort of like the Holiday Inn of massage and I mean that in a good way. I have been to Massage Envy's in several states and they are all similar in their way of delivering the product. You know what you will get in other words. Clean, relaxing, respectful and no funny business. For a woman I would imagine there is safety in that there are always other people there outside the room if needed. The trick is to find the therapist that works for you. I imagine all Massage Envy's attract the neophyte therapist and some are better than others! Don't give up just because you happen to draw a short straw and get someone not great. I became a member late last year and always have difficulty scheduling appointments. I have tried calling several times to make appointments, which they never seem to have availability. They have also been very rude on the phone and do not have great customer service. I have scheduled appointments online but it appears you must schedule months in advanced because they are always booked up. The past couple of times I have been able to get an appointment, they have canceled because the therapist has either left or ran out of product. Today, my facial was cancelled two hours before because they ran out of product. And no additional times or days were offered to make up for my cancellation. They charged a six month membership all at once, from apparently sixth months ago (that I didn't renew), left out key parts of their "contract", and they hope the manager will see my message because she's very busy. I'm a financially independent college student and they drained my bank account and now bills are going to be late because it takes 10 days to refund, "if the manager doesn't just tell me that I have to use all five of the credits... that expire in 60 days." If I could give Massage Envy zero stars - I would. I have issues in my neck & shoulders & receive regular massages, but my usual spot was booked. I slept funny and was in a lot of pain. My appointment was at 3:30PM. I arrived 15 minutes early as instructed. I filled out my medical information on the iPad & waited. I was called back to the room & According to the wall clock, it was 3:40PM. The appointment was for an hour. The massage therapist, Gary, asked me where I was hurting & I told him. By the time the actual massage started it was around 3:45-3:50ish. For the first ten minutes of the massage - he did not use lotion - which hurt. I said something & then he said something about his pump not working properly but then began to use the lotion. The pressure was not very much & I asked him to increase which he did. It still was not enough & he yawned several times. Then, he said that was all the time we have. He gets up to leave & I look at the wall clock. It says 4:30. I said wait - I booked for an hour there is still ten minutes left (really 15). His response was that the time started while I was filling out my information & that they also count the time it takes for the to prepare the room. I've been receiving massages for 15 years and I have NEVER had a masseuse say something like that with a straight face. When I went to the front desk to check out, I explained that I needed an itemized receipt for insurance purposes to the receptionist with brown & pink hair and glasses. She said they didn't have one. I've had a gift card since Christmas and attempted to request an appointment online 10 or more times with zero responses that are promised when I submit the request, while also attempting to call and set up an appointment multiple times with either no answer or no call back when I leave a voicemail. I know they have a lot of no call and no shows, but don't ask for my debit card over the phone to reserve my appointment. That's ridiculous. I'm using a gift card, and it's been the biggest pain in the ass gift card to actually use because of the hoops this place makes their "valued customers" jump through. read more

It's super hard to get an appointment here unless you can plan weeks out in advance. Buyer beware - if you think you are buying a gift for someone for 1 year as a present. Read the fine print. They will keep charging your account until you physically come in and cancel the contract even though it was purchased as a gift for one year! You can't call and cancel and you can't email and cancel and after the one year is up the price goes up as well. If you show up after the 1st of the month to cancel the 1 year contract that should have expired after a year you have to wait until after the following month before they stop charging you! The massage therapist were nice the couple of times that I went but the customer service is crap for deceiving people with 1 year contracts that basically turn into lifetime contracts unless you go visit the store and listen to a hard sales pitch to not cancel the 1 year contract that should have been 12 freaking months! If you go here just don't allow them to pressure you into buying a plan! read more

I've had a terrible experience with this Massage Envy. I had my first massage and bought a package of 3 afterwards. The record of my purchase was lost and I continually called until I received a gift card. Of the 4 massages I've had here, only 1 has been good. For the poor customer service, I received a voucher to put towards additional services that was expired and wasn't honored. And on my last massage, they failed to notify me that it would be $95 instead of the $55 I normally paid, and I couldn't cancel because I'd have to pay it either way due to their cancellation policy. I went to speak to the manager and she wasn't there nor did I receive a call like I was told. I rarely write reviews, but the customer service at this place was very poor and complicated. read more

My membership ended at the end of April. When I tried to get the missed massages, I was told I would have to re-new my membership or else forfeit the last 2 massages.
