It's 9$ for 4 selections and the lady behind the counter was so sweet and so knowledgeable. The only reason I didn't give 5 was because I wasn't a fan of the wine itself. Just not as flavorful. Lovely little wine shop on Main Street! We popped inside for a tasting and it didn't disappoint. I chose a white, rose, red, and a sparkling (Staccato). I wish I would've brought one of the sparkling's home with me! I was pleasantly surprised for being a small winery. The rose (Sunrise Rose) was pleasant, but a bit too sweet. The red (Traumen) and white (Seyval) were about the same, pleasant but a bit too sweet. Would absolutely recommend trying this out, the lady who helped us was wonderful. read more

Super cute tasting flights! I loved the presentation and reasonably priced as well. Check the hours before you go, they close at 4 some days, which seemed early to me. I got the sweet flight, would definitely try the white flight next time. Not the best experience I've had compared to other wineries. They offer 5 tastings for $5 (complementary of you purchase 3 bottles). The trick though, is finding three bottles that you like. Most of what we tasted just wasn't that good. There was one or two in there that were decent but overall just not impressed. The lower rating is not so much because I didn't care for their offerings (as these are subjective things to be sure), but rather the disengagement of the staff. The fun part of a wine tasting is to engage with the locals and learn more about their product. They were a little busy and I grant them that, but just make an effort to engage, it goes a long way with your customers. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day, it happens. We just had much better experiences at other local places. read more

A lot of fun was had on an early winter afternoon at Massbach Ridge Winery. The tasting room was a great place to warm up while walking the Galena strip, but an even better place for some libations! Although the wine isn't the best, it's not the worst, and so it's worth checking out. We sampled some of their finest, and chatted with the woman who was running the shop that day. She was great company and very knowledge and welcoming. We even ended up taking a few bottles of wine for home. All in all it's worth the stop. We visited the downtown Galena locations. When we sat down on the couch in the main area, despite it being pretty busy, we were quickly greeted with a tasting menu. The staff was very attentive and helpful. Compared to some of the other reviews, I would say prices have gone up here (but where haven't prices gone up, right?!) -- currently, as of June 2023, tastings are $7 for 4 selections. The pours were generous and probably amounted to 1.5 to 2 full glasses in total. And, if you spent $35, the tasting was complimentary. Most of the bottles are $12-$15, with the most expensive being $28. I felt like they had a decent selection of dry to sweet wines. We enjoyed our visit and the tasting, but for us, there weren't any wines that really "wowed" us. read more

The staff literally didn't say two words to us they poured our tasting didn't explain the wines or even try to start a conversation it was very uncomfortable. Massbach Ridge Winery was a pleasant find along the main street of Galena. We got to taste some great local wines and take home our favorites. They offer a tasting of 5 wines of your choice for only $5, and then the tasting is free if you buy a bottle of wine (which are very reasonably priced). You can't beat it! The service was also superb. Peggy, Laurie, Amber, and Travis were all very nice. Once we bought our favorite bottles of wine, they held them for us so we could walk around the rest of the town and come back for them. We will definitely be back! read more

I love me some wine. I'm basically always in for a tasting or two and this tasting room is right in the middle of the main drag in Galena. It seems pretty standard to charge for tastings anymore, so the $5 for 6 tastings did not surprise me. The staff were - hot and cold would be the best way to describe them. The standing room bar was full, but not so full that another couple couldn't have gotten in there just by a few people shifting a few inches. The wine-tenders didn't acknowledge us or help us get in there until we had managed to do it ourselves. This is not a large venue. I know you can see me looking hopeful and trying to figure out how to get to you and give you my $5 so I can decide if I want to spend more money on a bottle or two. Once we were in though, they were sassy and funny and generally fun to be around. Unless they were giving you a pour or you asked them a question about the wine. There must be a company policy that dictates that whilst pouring, they are to recite the description listed on the piece of paper I used to decide what to taste. I already knew that I had ordered a light crisp spring wine made from Niagra grapes, thanks. That's why I picked it. Sigh. If you asked any more questions, you basically got the same information over again, just in a different order. One girl seemed to at least know a little more than the others and could add a small amount of personal commentary when asked. Once we had decided to buy two bottles, they were friendly and jovial again, though. The pours were a little light, but not the worst I've seen. The wines were...ok. We ended up buying two bottles, but we weren't drooling over any of them. There were probably 2 dozen to choose from on the list and they had the requisite palate cleansers - including chocolate chips. Nice touch. The also sell wine in the spigot sack I've seen rum punch in. Very smart. That makes it easy to take wine somewhere where you can't take glass, like a hotel pool. The venue was a little strange. The tasting room was odd - like they had just opened in a spot that used to be a travel agency and hadn't gotten around to decorating or really capitalizing on the space. They had a small rack area of wine by the bottle, but it was just sitting there, awkwardly. I think there was a party room available for rent upstairs, which probably works out really well for them, but the downstairs really needed a design intern to come in and make some recommendations. I've done my share of wine tastings and this one ranked in the lowest segment, but it wasn't terrible by any stretch of the imagination. It just wasn't great. I was very pleased with my visit this morning. We got there early on Sunday morning just after breakfast which was perfect because that meant we had the whole place. Six wines for 5$ seems to be the standard rate in Galena which is reasonable to me. My girlfriend and I do not share the same palate we were able to find some great wines for both of our tastes as well as some nice in between finishes that our palates could agree on. The store is very spacious and open. It was warm and inviting on such a cold morning and the woman hosting our taste was very friendly and informative. This was a very pleasant experience for me. Walked by this place twice and decided to stop in to enjoy the different wine selections and souvenirs. Bought 2 bottles (1 was the watermelon and highly recommended for watermelon lovers). As we're walking out we decided to take part in their pretty out door patio area for their advertised wine flights. We brought our mini poodle along and asked the only lady in the store if we could seat ourselves outside.. she said no due to our mini poodle bc it would be "too near food". Highly understandable that we have stricter regulations to follow with with everything going on but tell me why she decided to take an order from a couple who had 2 little dogs. 1 on their lap and one under the chair seeking shade. We were standing right there. She even made eye contact with us and then chose to look away. That was not cool. With all the racial events going on in the world, I have to say the first thing I thought was, we are darker skinned and from India.. this other couple was white. Just makes you wonder what caused us to be treated differently from them. Other than that.. cute lil place. Just not sure about the management and their morales. read more

I've been to this tasting room several times and I have to say I have never been disappointed! Their new space is gorgeous and much more cozy than their previous space down main street. The pours are ample enough to get a great idea of each wine chosen and who can beat $5 for 6 tastings! This winery creates only home grown wines, and they really know how to do Midwest grapes justice! Some of the best Illinois grown and made wines I have had the opportunity to have! The wines here were really, really good. My fiancee and I drink a lot of wine and prefer Napa Valley or Sonoma wine so liking an Illinois grown grape is a big compliment. We bought about 8-10 bottles on our first visit! The only complaint is that the tasting was just so-so. Very small pours. The sommelier was friendly enough but not so generous on the wine. I love wine and everything about it; especially if I come upon a wine tasting. I was excited going in, hearing about how it's all locally made. We walked in and nobody greeted us. They just stood behind the counter. We had to ask if they did tastings here and they said "yeah we do". We should have walked out then. We sat down, she handed us the list of wines and told us to mark 6 (tasting is 6 for $5). I tried asking questions about the different wines and got nothing but short answers. I asked about the winery and she had nothing to say except saying what town it's in and handing me a pamphlet. To add, the whole time during our tasting she kept getting on her phone right in front of us. This was also during the start of the sidewalk sale. I really thought the service alone would be a lot better. Needless to say, we walked out of there, empty handed, and extremely displeased. read more

Cute place with pretty good wines. The bartenders were friendly, they had a girl playing the piano in the corner and he wine was better than a lot of Illinois wines I have had before. We really enjoyed our tasting at Massbach. All the wines were amazing. Our favorites were Elizabeth, Daffodil, and Seyval. For a busy Saturday, we were served very promptly. She was very friendly and took time to ask us where were staying and dining that night. She was also giving recommendations to other guests. What an amazing place!!! We were in town for a family wedding and had some time between the wedding and reception and stopped in for a glass of wine. What a beautiful place...so comfortable. The owner set us up in the back in a comfortable lounge area. Some space was reserved for us, as we called ahead. The owners daughter gave us a personal serenade on the piano that sits in the front of the store. We felt so taken care of and attended to...we couldn't have asked for anything more!! We were so delighted. We will definitely make this location a regular stop on our trips to the area. We bought some wine to take home and were amazed at how reasonable the cost for local wine.
