Looking for something to do while out in southwest Wisconsin four of us got to Botham Vineyards for the first time. We lined up at the tasting counter, and for ten bucks we sampled them all. Our sommelier was knowledgeable and personable. From the store we bought some pre-packaged charcuterie and snack, paid for a few bottles of their wine and headed to the patio. The sunny patio on the south side of the building is a nice scene. Plenty of tables and chairs, very comfortable. Pro tip? Seemed like the regulars brought their own snacks and food to the patio. A better choice than what's available in the store.

    Beautiful grounds, and huge!

Spacious, beautiful grounds, with rolling hills, lots of room for parking, tasty wine and happy people.  I had a great time with my husband at their annual vintage car show, sipping on a glass of Vin10 (sweetish white).  We had a little hiccup getting in.  More on that later. For the vintage car show going on that day, they had a live band, and tons of unique vintage cars to peruse.  Unfortunately, my husband just wanted to look at the cars and leave, so we weren't there long. I paid $7 for a glass of wine to sip during our car browsing.  Later on, I made my way into the barn for the free sampling (3 of them).  Don't get too excited, the samples are basically a sip from a tiny little "cough syrup" sized cup.  But it was nice to be able to sample before buying.  They were all tasty.  I only like sweet wines, so I enjoyed the 3 sweeter ones they had, but didn't purchase any bottles. ISSUES: My 2 issues were not related to the actual wine or service, but more towards the planners of the vintage car show.  While the website did say it would cost $10/person to attend the car show, the website DID NOT indicate that you needed CASH ON HAND before you could even enter the parking lot.  I figured we could pay the entrance fee inside with a debit card. We had to awkwardly turn our large truck around, with people waiting behind us in their cars, drive 15 minutes to the next town to find an ATM, and drive back.  By this point, my husband wanted to just look at the cars and leave.  We weren't thrilled that it cost us $20 to go to a car show to begin with, and then pay for wine as well. All the car shows back home in IL are FREE.   Just a suggestion:  either decrease your car show fee...or make it free.  I mean, people are buying wine while they're there, so you're making money anyway.  Just my 2 cents...

A terrific place to visit. The owners are delightful and the wines outstanding. Great destination if you are within a two hour drive.

A great Wisconsin winery that isn't too sweet on the pallette.

We had been looking for a local farm-to-table experience when we found Campo di Bella. Our first…read morevisit was a Saturday evening which consisted of a five course meal. Everything about the evening was exceptional. The first course was bruschetta, followed by a refreshing fresh salad with lemon dressing. The main course was flank steak, cooked perfectly. This was followed by a cheese board with delectable cheese samples from local dairies. For dessert, they had an absolutely amazing home made vanilla ice cream. It was rich, creamy, and very tasty. We enjoyed it so much, that we immediately reserved a second dinner which had cider braised pork shoulder as the entree. Again, the meal was exceptional. It started with prosciutto wrapped cantaloupe. I've never had prosciutto sliced so thinly, it was tender and flavorful. This was followed by a butternut squash soup that was thick and rich. I didn't know butternut squash could be so flavorful. I cleaned my bowl so thoroughly that the host jokingly asked if they forgot to serve me. The pork was next. Served with honey crisp apples. It was tender and perfectly juicy. Again, a cheese board was served before dessert. All very tasty local cheeses. For dessert, a French apple tart. I could have eaten a whole tray, it was so good. I've now been there over 20 times. Every time has been exceptional. They offer a variety of wines, ciders, and local beer to go with your meal. They also make their own vermouth which is sweet, with a hint of clove. It's so good, in fact, that we like it on the rocks. Not mixed. The host, Mary Ann, is wonderful. She takes time before each course to provide background on the home grown or locally sourced ingredients. She also gives a history of the farm and her family and, if the season permits, offers a tour of their farm. Marc (Mary Ann's Husband) is the chef. He is a culinary wizard. As I mentioned, I've been back over 20 times, which equates to almost 80 different dishes. All of them amazing! My only criticism (it's a minor one) is that the room is small and cozy and it can get a bit loud inside. It depends on the crowd, but it can be a bit hard to carry a conversation. In summary: exceptional food and exceptional people. I could not recommend it more. Update (12/13/24): We've been coming back to Campo di Bella for the last 5 years. At least 60 times or more and we've never been disappointed. Marc and Mary Ann are incredible hosts that continue to create amazing meals and experiences.

The texture of the gnocchi was so very pleasing - little pillows of goodness. The main course of polenta, mushrooms and house-made italian sausage with polenta was hearty and wonderful. As always, the cheese course was very tasty with several lical cheeses I had never before tried. (I look forward to having them again at home . Dessert was divine! I am not usually a fan of chocolate, but this was delicious! At this restaurant, they use local ingredients as much as they can, too. Give Campo a try if you haven't already. You are in for a real treat!

You can sit outside on the patio overlooking the vineyard or even sit in the vineyard. You order your wine selection in the gift shop that also offers small plates. They have many different wine varieties and Andy who worked there gave us a detailed description of each one. Unfortunately he was also a sale person wanting you to spend money which was a turnoff. We each elected to do a tasting of 3 different wines - all reds .Unfortunately the beautiful setting was better than any of the wines we tasted. We walked away disappointed as we really wanted to buy a bottle to support a local business but we just didn't care for any of the 6 we tried. If you are in the area and want to relax and enjoy the beautiful landscape of Galena Territory, give them a try and maybe you will find a wine that you will like.

In fact the flavor was so offensive to my pallet that I didn't finish any of the three varieties recommended. I really enjoy dry wines and stayed clear of the sweet so maybe that was the issue. The sales pressure was a real turnoff. I felt it was overpriced as well. Go for the views and the lovely garden patio but for dry red wine lovers I would fergedaboudit!
