Customer service was great. But the wine selection was disappointing. Their sweetest wine is like a semi-dry. There wasn't any "vibe" like at other wineries. Food options were also disappointing. Seating area outside was lifeless, old and dirty. Glad to try another winery, but since we're not dry wine fans, we won't be back. read more

Held my wife's 60th birthday celebration there. Had a BQ food truck come and serve. We used the large barn ( which got a little warm) then we moved out to a patio overlooking the vineyard. We had live entertainment and cold water and cake delivered from Madison Hy vee. But here's the best thing we were able to transform the barn interior to our celebration and the cost was $300.00 + purchase 4 cases of wine! Compared to other Madison venues this was a deal. And with an open beer and wine bar we had no problem meeting the minimum case requirement. The Botham family are very accommodating and gracious hosts. Actually come to us to fill our glasses while we dance and enjoy the great weather for 4 hours. Are event started at 4pm and we left about 8pm. I'd do it again! Great wine also. read more

Looking for something to do while out in southwest Wisconsin four of us got to Botham Vineyards for the first time. We lined up at the tasting counter, and for ten bucks we sampled them all. Our sommelier was knowledgeable and personable. From the store we bought some pre-packaged charcuterie and snack, paid for a few bottles of their wine and headed to the patio. The sunny patio on the south side of the building is a nice scene. Plenty of tables and chairs, very comfortable. Pro tip? Seemed like the regulars brought their own snacks and food to the patio. A better choice than what's available in the store. read more

There are so many wineries in the area.....go to any of them and skip this place. We were out driving around sight seeing from Illinois without a destination in mind when we came across this little vineyard. Beautiful and private scenery with a quaint store to browse around in with $2 wine samplings. Vintage gas signs from years gone by. Clean bathrooms. Purchased a Wisconsin Super Club book for future endeavors on future road trips. Definitely a must try if you're in the area. Signs clearly marked at the entrance of the do's and donut's. Check online for hours of operation. read more

Spacious, beautiful grounds, with rolling hills, lots of room for parking, tasty wine and happy people.  I had a great time with my husband at their annual vintage car show, sipping on a glass of Vin10 (sweetish white).  We had a little hiccup getting in.  More on that later. For the vintage car show going on that day, they had a live band, and tons of unique vintage cars to peruse.  Unfortunately, my husband just wanted to look at the cars and leave, so we weren't there long. I paid $7 for a glass of wine to sip during our car browsing.  Later on, I made my way into the barn for the free sampling (3 of them).  Don't get too excited, the samples are basically a sip from a tiny little "cough syrup" sized cup.  But it was nice to be able to sample before buying.  They were all tasty.  I only like sweet wines, so I enjoyed the 3 sweeter ones they had, but didn't purchase any bottles. ISSUES: My 2 issues were not related to the actual wine or service, but more towards the planners of the vintage car show.  While the website did say it would cost $10/person to attend the car show, the website DID NOT indicate that you needed CASH ON HAND before you could even enter the parking lot.  I figured we could pay the entrance fee inside with a debit card. We had to awkwardly turn our large truck around, with people waiting behind us in their cars, drive 15 minutes to the next town to find an ATM, and drive back.  By this point, my husband wanted to just look at the cars and leave.  We weren't thrilled that it cost us $20 to go to a car show to begin with, and then pay for wine as well. All the car shows back home in IL are FREE.   Just a suggestion:  either decrease your car show fee...or make it free.  I mean, people are buying wine while they're there, so you're making money anyway.  Just my 2 cents... read more

I paid a second visit to Botham on the occasion of their spring opening. It was a perfect spring day with live music, tastings of both wine and some of the food products like cheeses, condiments, and dips made with the infused oils they sell. I took this opportunity to taste all nine wines available ($5.00) Botham offers free tastings of up to three. While you will not find your full-bodied reds. nor the buttery/oaky chardonnays, you will find a good selection of lighter wines. The reds are both like Pinot Noir; lighter, not sweet, but also not dry-perfect for chilling, and perfect for picnics. In fact, all the wines here are what I would call picnic wines. This makes total sense in a place where everyone picnics, I was delighted to find that none of the choices, even the dessert wine, was too sweet. My favorites were Cupola, a fruity and citrusy sipping wine, Badger Blush, a tailgate nosh-friendly type, Riesling, which begs for some Indian food or spicy fare as a pairing, Vin 10, another light white most compatible with a picnic of seafood, chicken, cheeses or curried foods, and finally a red (there are only two) Field 3. a light berry-flavored and very smooth red. I also liked the Finis a dessert wine, while I rarely purchase those. Prices vary from $8.50 - 20.00. averaging around $11.50. There are a couple of cheese plates you can order if you don't bring your own picnic. And there is a good selection of local cheeses, a display of delicious infused oils, and a variety of condiments for purchase. Just a perfect place with lots of space and views for a family picnic. Staff here are very outgoing, friendly and helpful. read more

Let's start with the fact they give you 3 free tastings! Awesome! I'm a red fan so I tried the three they have. They were all good but the Field3 was my favorite :) I had two glasses there with the company of Hopper, the 3 able legged kitty cat! He's the first thing that greeted me as I entered the tasting room! I also purchased a bottle to go. The vineyard itself was very beautiful and it's close to Cave of the Mounds, which is where I came from. If you're looking to support local and enjoy good wine, make the short trek from Madison and check them out! read more

Solid wine lineup. They really excel on the sweeter end of the spectrum. Their Badger Blush and Big Stuff Red are great summer wines and great when chilled. Located in a really cool rustic barn, and a nice outdoor area to enjoy a bottle after your tasting if the weather is nice! Great little hidden gem just outside of Madison. read more

A great Wisconsin winery that isn't too sweet on the pallette. The better Wisconsin wines are known for being fruity and sweet. Which is not a bad thing. I like me some fruity wines on occassion. But I think Botham puts Wisconsin on the map with some excellent wines that are bit drier than their local brethren. Something else I see a lot from Wisconsin wineries is the importing of Cabernet, Zinfandel, or Chardonnay grapes... and then competing with those California varietals. Personally, I've never had a Wisconsin Cab or Zin that could hold its own against California. Good? Yes. But for the price it costs Wisconsin to produce a good red, I can get a better one from Cali for half the price. It's just a fact of economics. Sorry Wisconsin. Enter Botham. They don't kid themselves. They are Wisconsin. But they also don't add to an already saturated market of fruit wines... nor do they try to go up against the west-coast giants. They are doing their own Wisconsin thing, and they are doing it well. Botham's foundation is a nice set of semi-dry wines, and a few others to round out their selection. Prices are reasonable, and the winery is nice with a cool public patio. The shop has a number of other items for sale besides their wine - jams and jellies included. I've been making an annual trip to the winery for the last few years. And they are always welcoming and friendly. We pack a lunch, do a little tasting, and then chill on the patio for a little bit until it's time to head back to the four-one-four. If you can't make it to the winery, definitely pick up a bottle of Botham at the liquor store. read more

2013 Wine-apalooza Tour! For the past 3 years, 30 of my closest friends and I have rented a bus and spent a day gallivanting through the Wisconsin countryside visiting wineries. We've found a lot of good/fun wineries, occasionally a really good winery, but today we found a favorite winery! The owners/vintners, Sarah and Peter Botham, are a charming, personable couple doing good things with vines. The wines they make comes from Wisconsin grapes, grapes they grow--not wine made in Wisconsin with grapes from somewhere else. The drive to Botham is lovely. When you turn the final corner to go to the vineyard, you see grape vines lining the hills--lots of oohs and aahs. The tasting barn is large and comfortable with an outdoor area that's great for picnics or just sitting around with friends and sipping a nice glass. Yes, they have complimentary tastings. The Field 3 Red is amazing! I'm not a red drinker, but I gave a bottle to a friend who was totally knocked out by this wine. The Cupola White did a happy dance in my mouth. I'm not going to mention names (my mother said it wasn't nice), but there is another winery sort of up the road a'piece that has a lot of nice flowers --however, it lacks the soul and commitment that we felt at Botham. read more

Cute winery off the beaten path. Staff was kind and knowledgeable. There was a tasting bar inside and a wine garden outside, which even includes a visit from the owner's black cat. Don't be alarmed when you pull in, the winery is past the owner's house in the red barn. Overall a fun experience and some tasty wine. read more

Whenever I go here I feel like Im transported to the vineyards in CA. They always have fun events going on. The car show at the end of the summer is my favorite. Can pack a picnic, listen to music, look at classic cars with a bottle of wins(s). Your bound to find a wine that you fancy. They are now selling Acala Farms Cottonseed oil which you can find in the tasting room along with other gifts items and wine tasting. We traveled here on a Saturday as part of a winery day trip and loved its atmosphere. Being out in the country allows for a peaceful and quiet setting and all of the older buildings make it unique. Their set up inside is open and inviting. We loved our hostess pouring our wines for the tasting as she had a lot of personal details and input into what we were trying. They had many yummy snack options from fresh bread with butter to cheese boards and chocolate. Lots of good wines to try and they even support a local cottonseed oil company with a display and tasting area. A great venue for live music as they have an outdoor seating area to enjoy your beverage and take in the beautiful surroundings! read more

So glad we came to this winery this weekend! We arrived close to closing and while the ladies were attending to a bus of college kids. Despite how busy and noisy it was, the ladies working here were polite and welcoming. We did the free sample of 3 wines. Loved the Big Stuff Red! Love this winery! It's a vineyard, too, so the beauty of the vines adds to the great wine. They have a really nice assortment of vino that seems to be tailored to any palate (though I do love a nice dry red myself). The staff always seems so welcoming - it doesn't matter if its a slow day at the shop, or if they are holding an event and are crazy busy. I especially love that everyone is knowledgeable about the wine they are serving. If I'm going to drink wine, I want to buy it and taste it while listening to people who actually enjoy it! It's always nice when the owners are out at the special events, too. read more

Beautiful countryside, bucolic environment, and peacefulness. Add to this a yummy selection of dry to sweet regionally produced wines and you have Botham vineyards. You can have a small complimentary wine tasting or for five dollars taste every wine in the house. Or try having a glass on their terrace with a cheese tray. Great for groups as well as single and couple wine aficionados. Join their case club and take some home to enjoy. read more

I wanted to finally take the time to review this regular stop of mine. Five stars in the category of Wisconsin Wineries. And I'd still even rate it a four when comparing to many California wineries. This is an unsung hero in our area. They hit high marks in all the right places: wine quality, ambiance, and service. Their wines are quite good (not too fruity), their personnel are friendly and helpful, and their space is great. One of the most beautiful views on their nice patio (plenty of seating, but if it's nice out, you may want to bring a blanket for the grass, just in case it's super busy). They often have good live music to enjoy, too. If it's a cold day, they have a nice indoor area, too. They offer some meats, cheeses, and chocolates for purchase (sometimes fresh bread, too). But you are welcome to bring your own picnic. Bring your friend or your partner, and enjoy the day. Give the cat some scritches. read more

Pretty setting. We enjoyed the wine tasting and took home a few bottles. They have several delicious wines so choosing was difficult. One thing I would suggest is to rearrange the card listing the wines for the tasting. They are not separated by red or white so that was a bit confusing. The staff was very friendly. We came here on probably the worst type of day to be at a winery. It was super stormy, so sitting outside was not an option. Luckily, they had lots of seating inside - and it was in a barn SO COOL. The barn was pretty humid, but they also had a super cute private room with (slightly uncomfortable) couches that worked well for our group. All of the wines we tried were delicious, and we came home with a bottle of our favorite. Tasting was reasonably priced, and you definitely get enough to need a DD at the end of the day. To keep you from drinking on an empty stomach, they also serve food. We had the cheese board which was yummy and just enough for our party of 6. The trinkets in the store were also pretty cool, and the outside would have been nice to sit at. It felt a bit crowded inside, but I think that was mainly due to not being able to sit outside. We will be back on a better day for sure! read more

Let me start off by saying that the tasting room is very cute and they did a great job with the decor and barn restoration. We did the 3 free wine tastings and then bought three bottles of wine, one to drink in the outside area, and a cheese board as well. The wine was great, but the cheese board was extremely underwhelming. I actually cannot believe that they would serve something like that for $15. The cheese board was advertised as three cheeses, sausage, mixed nuts, dried fruit, and tapenade. The three cheeses were smaller than bite sized, the sausage came as three half slices cut up, the mixed nuts were fine, the dried fruit was three small dates, and the tapenade was a small serving of olives. We watched as the worker grabbed the pre-made board from the refrigerator and added a few olives to it. I wish I would have taken a picture to show how pathetic the board was. I was wondering if the board itself was free for the outrageous price of $15 for what we got. Come for the wine, do not stay for the cheese board! read more

Great place, but no customer service. We stopped there on Saturday and figured on buying some wine. We have a collection at home and wanted to add to it. However after spending 20 minutes in the place we left. The clerk was taking care of 5 ladies that seemed to be having a good time, but she never even acknowledged us. Even when she gave them samples of the wine, we did not offer any to us. I work in a place that would be out of business very fast if we ignored our customers the way that we were ignored on Saturday. We will not be back. read more
