We enrolled our granddaughter for the winter driving class. Watch the videos on the Internet and the experience was nothing like that at all. There was no "slick track" they watered down some asphalt and let them slide a little bit, but there was no real simulation of driving on ice or snow. Extremely disappointed! This company exceeds in teaching their students about how to be a safe driver. But, as someone who is on the spectrum that needs structure; Master Drive falls short in that field. Having to schedule driving lessons with them is an ABSOLUTE PAIN because their lessons are MONTHS OUT and at odd times, which is an absolute inconvenience. Just to add more salt to the wound, they expect you to pay for three driving lessons for their standard package which does not help you with their driver's test in anyway. Oh? Do you want better results behind the wheel with our premium package? TOO BAD! It costs 1,000 dollars. I wish they could give you more time behind their wheel because driving in an unfamiliar car where you don't know how the car handles isn't a fun experience. And don't get me started with the cars! The floorboards are caked with dirt, the seats inside of the cars are worse for wear, and I've gotten a comment from my teenage brother who's also a student at Master Drive that the Kia Soul that he drived smelled like sweat. The cars that they expect the students to drive don't handle very well especially with the breaks being very spongy. As a driving school that pride's itself for safety, you'd expect them to maintain their cars. NOPE! Their cars are terribly maintained. Take your business somewhere else unless if your okay with a being handed a booklet and a pat on a back that says " We're not going to teach you. You should do our job for us " because this school does not engage with you in anyway with their instructors. Yes, parental guidance is important for driving. But, the instructor needs to also be in the picture creating a personalized plan for their student. Which Master Drive does not with only three lessons in their standard package. Driving students need more time to drive with instructors that want to help their students and be supportive to help them become a safe driver. Protect your pockets people! Find another driver's school or teach your student yourself! read more

Avoid at all costs! Agree with comment about mean, sarcastic instructors! Nasty test instructor seemed determined to fail my daughter as soon as we walked into the room. And she did in fact fail. No good reasons as to why. Avoided all our questions. But she said not to worry. She will pass the next time. And how would she know that exactly? What a setup! And next test was three months out. Try telling a 16 year old she needs to wait three months for her license. We can deal with her failing the test. So it goes. What we can't deal with is the mean attitude toward the customer. If you don't want to read the rest of this, just know that my child cried the entire way home and missed two days of school after the session because I couldn't get him out of bed. It was absolutely horrifying. In the beginning of our strategy session, the owner, Ronn did ask my autistic child if he could touch him (autistic kids can be very adverse to touch). My son, who has trouble saying no, agreed. That's no fault of the owner. But he only asked once, and for the next hour and 15 minutes, he was touching my son's knee and asking for hugs (there was nothing remotely sexual about this--that's not at all what I'm insinuating). However, for a company who says they specialize in working with autistic children, this is ridiculous behavior. I tried to tell him my son was shutting down because of all the touching, but he held up his finger and shushed me. He kept asking things like, "why don't you know how to drive already? Are you stupid?" I think this was meant as sarcasm and my son was supposed to say, "no," but autistic children can have trouble understanding sarcasm. My son shut down more and more throughout the session as the barrage continued and the owner repeatedly and knowingly ("he, she, whatever") misgendered him. This continued until he had both of us go into the hallway to watch our gait and our visual tracking. My son had gotten to the point where he could barely even move, so he ended up in the waiting area. I was told by the owner that MY autism diagnosis was wrong, which he could tell by watching me walk back to the waiting area to join my son at the end of the session. I know that a lot of people have had good experiences there. I know Ronn cares deeply about training kids to be safe drivers. But be wary if your child has special needs and plans to take the strategy session. I don't know how the rest of the staff handle special needs children (and parents), but the he was oblivious and abrasive. Other than being a little more tentative than most kids might be, my son has never had trouble driving with me. I wish I could attach the session summary we were sent by email afterwards. It's just insulting. I believe Ronn thought he was helping and being a mentor. But he ignored my attempts to get him more than a few inches away from my son's face, shushed me, asked abrasive and sarcastic questions, stared directly and unwaveringly into my son's eyes, told me my diagnosis was wrong, and told both of us that my child wasn't prepared to drive because of his reactions to Ronn's behavior. This is, unfortunately, something my son will likely never forget. It was an ordeal to help him out of the depression and self isolation that followed. Mike has been wonderful, as have the rest of the staff that I've spoken with and dealt with. But this strategy session with the owner is something I would pay a million dollars to take back. I've been afraid to write this review, but other parents of special needs children have the right to know so that they can avoid the same situation. read more

Worth the money!!! They have been around since I learned to drive and in the last year I enrolled my son in their teen driving program (BTW-Behind the Wheel- Premier) as well. My son completed his online permit training through Master Drive last summer. Great program and helped him to successfully pass the DMV written test to obtain his permit afterwards. He then went through both of their teen driving camps at Bandimere Speedway (basic and advanced) which taught him so many important and lasting skills including skid correction (which he thought was totally fun. Thankfully NOT in our car haha) and crash avoidance. He is now signed up for 3 private behind the wheel (6 total hours) sessions before he finishes his hours to get his full fledged drivers license! Instructors are great with the kids and parents. Cons: sometimes hard to get a hold of. You have to call them to purchase and schedule most everything and their hours are 9-5 M-F so if you have an office job, like we do, your only chance to get a hold of them is during your lunch hour and, as I'm sure a lot of other people are doing the same, I have many times gotten their voicemail and have to play phone tag for days to get anywhere. Wish they at least had part time phone hours on Saturday or were open until 6 during the week. Also, there was major confusion with the permit certificate after he completed the online training. It was supposed to be emailed to us but we never received it and had to go back and forth with Master Drive over the course of 2 months to get it ... just to find out we didn't even need it! We were told we needed to take the certificate in to the DMV to get the permit but the DMV ended up just pulling it up in their system! So that whole mess caused my son to get his permit after his birthday which was a MAJOR bummer since he wouldn't be able to get his license on his bday because of that. Sad face :-( Overall, I would recommend Master Drive Lakewood to anyone with teens learning to drive! They give them important driving skills that are well worth the cost. I am also planning on dining my son up for the winter driving course this year! read more

We asked our daughter to go to MasterDrive on a friend's recommendation. She already has a driver's license, but we felt that a few additional lessons would polish her skills and make her a safer driver. When we made reservations for the lessons, we specifically requested that they needed to focus only on safety and polishing skills such as parallel parking. Unfortunately, our daughter's experience was horrible. The first instructor was cleaning his ears and picking his nose and wiping it on the seat. He did not provide any useful feedback appropriate for a licensed driver at all, and just told her the basics such as "use your seatbelt". That level of instruction was not what we had requested and signed up for. The second instructor was supposed to be more experienced but our daughter's 'experience' was worse with her. The instructor was very rude. She physically pushed my daughter to the side and asked if she could see out of the side view mirror. While driving she would yank the steering wheel from her instead of asking her to correct it herself. The instructor asked our daughter where she was from (we are of South Asian descent but our daughter was born in the US), made fun of her name, and made a racist comment (equivalent to: maybe you should all go back to where you came from). This behavior with customers is unbelievable and should be completely unacceptable for any business. When I called Master Drive on July 5th to discuss this with the manager, I was told that I would get a call back the next day. I am still waiting for the call. We were planning to do some winter driving training with them, but now have obviously changed our minds. Overall, it was a big mistake going to MasterDrive. We spent $395.00 for 3 lessons each lasting 2 hours all for nothing. Both instructors were very unprofessional! read more

Masterdrive is the place to go for the best driver education. It is a family owned business. My friends sent all of their kids there for driver's training, and they were completely satisfied with the course that resulted in conscientious, courteous and mature drivers. Recently, I signed my nephew up for a hazards driving course. Teresa & Nathan of Masterdrive in the Denver Metro area provided excellent customer service! I plan to send more of my young relatives there for training! read more

My daughter is on the Autism spectrum, and I can tell you they 100% discriminated against her. She unfortunately fell in that time during Covid and wasn't able to complete the driving portion before the time was up. I was told that they did make exceptions for people who called them during that time to let them know they needed extended. I guess I assumed since it was mandated they weren't open, they would know. I was told I would have to pay in FULL again!!. I was shuffled around, berated and told to pound sand because I said the person I dealt with was rude and unprofessional. She happened to be the owners wife's daughter. I even sent proof of her daughter's outrageous behavior towards a paying customer. I had purchased the highest dollar package they had and they refused to let her do the driving portion or give me a refund, which should have been over $900. Lesson learned, don't go to family run businesses like this one, the owners wife is petty and so is her day. if anyone is considering them, I have records of everything I have said here, stay away. read more

I did the winter driving class. It's a camp that can have up to six people. There was five when I was there. I really liked how we got to feel what our abs brakes are like and threshold braking in our own car. We practiced what to do when we skid in master drive's car. I learned some things I didn't know such as having the seat further back to protect me from the air bag (although I like having my seat further up since it is comfortable on my back) and putting my foot all of the way on the ground to get out of a skid. However, I wish there was an option for more of a completely one-on-one course with an instructor so I can make sure I know if I'm doing something right pretty quickly instead of later on. Especially with still being kind of new to snow and never have driven in it much, it would've been nice to get extra practice. I also wish there was a way to practice skidding on both sides instead of just one side. For example have the car skid to the left and right to get more of a feel. I also wish driving instructors in general would have more compassion on students who are nervous and tense. I got better at relaxing with the skids, especially since I did a skid school recently, but I just don't like being called out on looking nervous and tense. I know I have nothing to be afraid of since I'm in a safe environment and it's important to not panic but it's all still new to me. Even my friends who live out here that I have talked to said they would be nervous too. Maybe I'll take the class again in the future. I believe the receptionist said that the camp is usually the most full in October and November so maybe trying it later would be good too. read more

When I reached out to MasterDrive my first question was what they could do to support my daughter who has a learning disability. They met with her and talked about how she could choose to have classes in person or online. We decided that online would be the best option. The online course was what you would expect. It covered the information in both videos and articles. What made the program stand out was the driving instructors. My daughter took all of the extra driving courses they offered. She would not get behind the wheel before working with them. Mike listened to the type of instructor my daughter needed and matched her up perfectly. She came back from her instruction time feeling more confident and self-assured. It was worth every penny. Some of their instructors can be a little harsher than others but some people do better with those types of instructors. Just let your point person know what type of instructor your child learns best with and they will try to match you up. About a year after my daughter had taken her courses we moved to California. California was going to require my daughter to take Drivers ed all over again and wait 6 months before she could get her license (she had not taken the test yet in Co). MasterDrive was quick to help us out. They sent the information needed and saved us both time and money. I really appreciate all they have done and recommend this company. read more

Masterdrive came highly recommended by numerous parents in our school group. After shopping around a bit, we selected this school. Instructors were professional and very experienced. Advice was gently provided and well heeded by my daughter. Daughter's confidence and skill grew visibly during and between sessions with the instructors. Weeks after learning to change a tire in our driveway, as directed by the course, we had to change a tire by the side of the freeway. My daughter's familiarity with the tools and process were invaluable, and impressed the officer who stopped to help. The course started with off-street instruction for those who have never been behind the wheel, and professed over several sessions to parallel parking and freeway driving. Each time, the instructors debriefed with me as to skill level and skills to work on. This course was totally worth it. We recommend it constantly to our friends and will be signing up our younger one in due time. read more

Just totally not worth the money. Spent over $1000. My son got a VERY basic education. Spent very limited time on the skid pad or any "advanced" lessons. On-street lessons were with 3 different instructors that all seemed to have entirely different goals and only one of them that he actually felt was paying attention to his driving and helping him improve his specific tactics instead of just spouting generic instructions. He learned more in an afternoon on a dirt road with the traction control off than he learned in an 8-hour course and 3 driving sessions. Then, to top it all off, I have now learned that I have to spend another $100 to take him to another driving school to get his actual driving test before he can get his real license. Just feels like robbery. The ideas seem good. The execution is mediocre. And the price is the highest in the area. I have a daughter that I am searching for a driving school now, and looking at what is promised versus what they delivered for my son is what prompted this post. I'm looking at spending roughly half as much for her, because I have accepted that the bulk of her advanced driving will have to come from Dad and me. read more

I was impressed with all the driving courses here. My 16yr old son took them all. The whole time his instructors said he was doing great. I drive with him all the time and he was more cautious then he needed to be. Then he took his test with the "sarcastic lady" at this location. She was condescending to my son and wife even before the test started. She said he stops to close to the crosswalk stipes? I have two other sons but will look for another driving school. read more

I really didn't want to write this. But the longer I think, the more annoyed I am. I would never refer to this as a driving "school". I would call this a place to take already somewhat experienced drivers. My daughter needed to be taught how to drive. I was clear about this. She had never touched the wheel of a car. But she was instantly told to start her car and start driving an obstacle course. She was a nervous wreck. When she said, I have never done this before, the instructor became less demanding and went slower. But every single lesson, she had to repeat that she was new to driving. She had ONE instructor that was kind and actually taught her something. Every other instructor was shocked that she needed instruction. One kept gasping and screaming as she drove. Totally unnecessary and unprofessional. I have had her drive my car and she does very, very well. The instructors attitudes never improved. She went to take the test and she knew she was going to be failed as soon as the woman tester started fussing at her because she had to look thru her purse for her permit. The woman shouted at my daughter as she was backing the car out and it never got better. I knew they had already decided to fail her way before we ever went to the test. It was a bad experience. Demeaning and demoralizing with insanely unprofessional instructors. I'm not sure why they're called instructors since there was very little instruction. I was hoping a "school" would build her confidence. It had the opposite effect. Especially the tester. I think her name was Cynthia. Unkind and condescending, she told my daughter that it was "just a joke" and failed her. Unbelievably unprofessional. Again, go if you already have a child with driving experience, but do not expect to have them taught. And have thick skin, because these people didn't go to charm school. read more

we started this program in 2020. At first it seemed great, however we ended up receiving different information and paying extra. My daughter had an arizona permit. We were told she could test for her license with it and could test twice id she didn't pass. On the day of her test, the individual then told us we could not but would take her anyway. Then told she could only test once. Then she proceeded to tell her frightening stories of kids that like to get right next or up against the Masterdrive cars and harass them! she then laughed and said "just what you want to hear right before a driving test, right? well, lets go!" My daughter did not pass due to turning into the outside lane. Now, we have to make an appointment to get her CO permit--no appointments available until late september, then make another to get a license, and pay additional. None of my girls will be ever going through this program with Masterdrive--we are done. read more

I also appreciated that he took the time to explain how they are going out of their way to accommodate all of their clients. They are definitely trying their best during these uncertain times. Agree with the reviews in general. There are some excellent instructors that seem to work on the weekends. And then there are the instructors that reek of cigarettes and are overly critical. My youngest son, who is arguably the best driver of all my three kids, was told by the weekend instructors that he was one of the best teen drivers they had seen. Then we got stuck with a woman for his test that could only find fault with him. I'm all for constructive criticism, but I would hope there would be better consistency among instructors. The weekday instructors often seem that they couldn't get a job elsewhere. Master Drive has all the right intentions; just be careful of the instructor who you are working with. read more

Nina was horrible. Every other instructor i've had have said I have done amazing. She was never paying attention and the only time she was she would yell at me to breathe. Nina was rude and was looking to fail anyone. Every other instructor there was amazing except for her. She was worried about her phone, and would tell me I wasn't on my side of the road while other cars where passing me on there side. That's doesn't seem possible if I was on the wrong side. I recommend getting anyone but Nina. read more

This is a good place to get your permit, license however is a different story! They have a couple excellent instructors there that make up for cigarette smoking bad ones!! I recommend the in classroom instruction as well as the driving camps! Depending on who your driving instructor is for the on street lesson, will make all the difference because there is at least one lady who is WAY to strict for a new driver! She is very unprofessional and makes you very uncomfortable as a new driver! Hopefully she retires very soon so that no one will have to have her, she makes this company looks bad, which is sad because it really is a great company with mostly great people! read more

We have had two daughters go through driver's training with Masterdrive and I highly recommend this driving school. Classroom, on street and drive camp training were excellent. I feel that our girls are well prepared to drive on their own. Masterdrive employees have always been responsive and willing to answer our questions. The instructors are patient and encouraging. Poor record keeping. When my child finished her driving instruction, they somehow sent a "record" to us with another person's name on it, and we had to contact/correct them to get the proper record sent. Seems very wrong for a group handling official documents. Also, NOT for anyone on the west side of Denver. Although they give driving instruction on the west side, students now have to drive an hour or more to the Centennial location to take the driving test. Communication is poor. We have had to leave multiple messages to arrange appointments, with no call backs. When I finally emailed after leaving 3-4 unanswered messages, the soonest we could get my child scheduled for a driving test was 3 months out. While we felt my child received good instruction initially, the driving exam people were dismissive, vague, and unhelpful. Failed my child on one exam for having "issues with making turns" but when we re-took the exam with another group, the child aced the test, and the (non-Master Drive) examiner was astonished that there could have been a problem in the first place. read more

All three of my children have done MasterDrive, and I was very pleased with the first two. My youngest son did his 6 hours of driving, his two-day defensive driving course, and his driving test through the MasterDrive based by Bandimere (the other two did their classes at the main school near Jordan Rd in Centennial). He hated it. But I chalked it up to his just not wanting to put the time and effort in. I was wrong, because he did more driving than my other two before he took his test. The instructors kept us waiting, they smoked on breaks and smelled of cigarettes, and most importantly, we realized today when he took his test in order to get his license, that he had not been taught the things the instructor said he "failed," by the very place he was given his classes (on the very roads on which he had done his 6 mandatory driving hours). For the amount of money we paid, I really felt like they were just trying to get another $50 for another driving test. I am extremely disappointed and I will not recommend that anyone attend the Bandimere MasterDrive. I have never given a bad review anywhere, but I drove with all three of my kids for so many hours, and I know my youngest was best prepared going in to his test. Her critique was difficult to even understand, and I was standing there trying to follow. Big letdown, MasterDrive. read more

Waste of 6 hours Sounds like a little bit of time, but this is time I had to spend away from school, so that I could attempt my drivers test 3 times. Not my version of fun. On top of that I already had 130 hours and passed the practice drive test. The issue is the lack of consistency between the people who are the testers. You have the option between the small grey haired lady who is always cranky, small blonde haired lady who just wants to get to her next smoke break, and the small black haired lady who marks you off because she can't see your whole body move when you look. The last 2 ladies tested me and failed me. The issue was I could see what they couldn't see since I am 6 foot 1 and they are less than 5'6. The final person passed me, but it took calling masterdrive several times to get this person to test me. The first and second time I failed because I was not looking, but I was and was scanning to the point of getting a headache. I think the real reason I was failed the first time was because this lady wanted to get to her next smoke break like with the previous kid who left crying from her. The second lacked experience and as a result would take the wheel from me every time I turned because she was "nervous I was going to hit the curb". For the record, I have yet to hit a curb, so this is a little bit overkill for a test. I was marked off for a mistake I did not have the chance to make and wouldn't have made. The last part that angered me was the fact that they never taught me what would be expected on the drivers test. I knew I needed to look, but didn't think I needed to make it into a play. Then I learned the hard way that they expected you to stop when they could no longer see the crosswalk. I made sure to specifically leave 2 feet of space between the car and the solid white line, but that was not enough. read more

Waste of $1,200. Sounded like a SMALL price to pay for safety of our teen. Save your money and spend 100 hours having your kid drive you around over a year instead. They'll learn more from you, guaranteed. They didn't even cover parallel parking! Their OWN instructors repeatedly fail kids in the REAL test for something NOT in the DMV handbooks given to each student NOR taught by their own instructors: failing to noticeably check the rear view mirror AFTER exiting an intersection! I had never heard of this before and rarely do this myself. All 4 kids in our son's cluster FAILED first attempt to pass the test because of this hidden "rule." Our son then checked faster than the instructor could monitor, and she failed him again. A manager told us to have our son over-act and create a "theater" by weaving and bobbing his head like a boxer to make it clear that he was checking mirrors after exiting intersections. Our son then even narrated "looks good behind" after each intersection. On his third try, he passed. Especially annoying that the dry run instructor said he would have passed, but to get different sunglasses so they can see his eyes. Beware the old smoking lady who seems to enjoy failing kids while jonesing for her next cigarette. Also failed our tall son who stopped BEFORE the cross-walk lines, but shorty couldn't see the first line over the hood, so she incorrectly assumed he was over them. The manager defended this too as "the passenger needs to see the line." WHERE is THAT written in state law?!!! read more

My child just finished up the driving camp and the advanced driving camp this past weekend and she seems much more confident behind the wheel. I wish I had sent her to their full program in the first place instead of a cheaper program. Their staff is professional and work well with the kids on their skills and confidence. I took the camp program 23 years ago and I cannot say enough good things. My next driver will go through the full program instead of any others offered. read more

Some decent instructors but we ended up with lady who others on here are probably complaining about for testing at Hinsdale location. When I met her before driving test, I knew it was her. Stange lady. Was hyper critical and condescending with my daughter. I'm guessing they don't do internal comparisons to make sure they are grading consistently. My daughter passed but was pretty upset by lady's demeanor and unreasonable scoring. I'd avoid MasterDrive only because of this lady. Can't imagine sitting in a car with her for 30 minutes or god forbid an hour. If you have her, you'll know immediately. read more

We had a good experience with the driving training portion of the program. Our son who is cautious driver took the test from a lady that treated him like he was 10 years old. She criticized him on things that he knows and does correctly. My son is almost 17 been driving and been for quite awhile and given nothing but high compliments from other instructors. It felt like a money making agenda to fail him no matter what he did. He was majorly disappointed! Not a great experience when the job of the program should prepare and tell us when our son is ready to pass (which they did!), then fail him. read more

Our experience with Master Drive was very disappointing. The camps were expensive and the kids only got to try the maneuvers a few times...not worth it for the price you pay. On street driving was frustrating, stressful and confusing. My son had 3 different instructors and all of them gave different directions, completely contradicting one another. One instructor actually grabbed the wheel multiple times while my son was driving to "show how to drive in the lane". My son was left frustrated and confused. We ultimately tested with another school as a result, and it was a much better experience. I advise you shop around. read more

i wouldn't even rate this business 1 star. master drive is great and all but i repeat, never visit the hinsdale location. there is a woman who is unhappy with herself so she fails teen drivers who actually should pass to get satisfaction. she makes those never want to drive again. parents dislike this woman and want her fired. i spent TONS of money with masterdrive and i completely regretted it after my child was tested by this harsh, uptight teacher. clearly the teachers don't teach well since my daughter has failed twice. read more

My oldest child just got done with their training at Master Drive, and although at first I was concerned because of the price, after I saw everything that he learned I couldn't be happier - money well spent! The defensive driving course is unbelievable and gives the new teen driver some very valuable skills. I also like that the kids get a number of on-street follow up lessons after the class and closed course lessons.
