It was a beautiful day out there running some errands, and the truck started to shake like crazy. I was like oh brother, I've been around cars most of my life, and thanks to my dad, I knew to get it checked. Went to an auto store ( I will do another review on that), due to the check engine light was on and orange blinking means bad news in some cases and they said it was a fuel injector and needed to be replaced, most likely. He said it would be about 150 bucks. I am like, cool So, after calling a few shops, I am glad I called Master Tech; I spoke with the owner, who was and has been very professional from the start, explaining the difference between a quick fix and a good fix. Over the phone, he spent about 10 minutes or longer, which was appreciated. Going over some options, he suggested coming down and having a fuel injector diagnostic checked for 160.00, which will ensure to know If it's just one or all 6, crossing my fingers that it's just one and easy repair. Fast forward to today, I arrived at their shop in on State. It's easy to get from most freeways. Parking: Wherever there is a spot, do not park in front of doors and shop doors. There is a no parking sign. If you're thirsty, there are no water coolers as far as I know, so bring a water bottle. Cost: This can vary depending on the repair, and the best way to get a quote or an idea is to call them. Their number is 8014851212 Business: It's fun. I won't be able to find words sufficient to describe what an extraordinarily great experience our family had with Mastertech Automotive last week, but I'm going to try. My adult daughter, her 12-year-old sons, and I were well into a long-awaited family road trip from the San Francisco Bay area to Chicago. Everything went perfectly until we were on I-80 E, several miles from Salt Lake City, when the oil pressure indicator light suddenly went on and the car began to shudder. We had barely pulled over to the shoulder when the engine suddenly stopped. It was a July afternoon, very hot and noisy, with huge trucks whooshing by constantly, rocking our stalled car side to side. We were all pretty upset but tried to remain calm. After some time AAA sent a tow truck, whose driver said by phone that he only had room to take one passenger with him to wherever his truck was towing the car. We called the Utah Highway Patrol, who quickly sent a very helpful trooper in a patrol car to help the tow truck driver get us all to safety. The officer and the tow truck driver both mentioned the large amount of oil they saw behind and under the car, so we had a sense that the breakdown might be serious, but we really hoped it would be something that could be quickly fixed. They got us all safely to Mastertech Automotive in Salt Lake City. Joey, the lovely woman behind the counter there, made us all comfortable and gave us cold drinks. After the mechanics told us the bad news that the oil plug had fallen out as we drove along the highway, causing all the car's oil to spill out and the engine to seize, we knew we were truly stranded. The Mastertech staff gave us helpful advice and all the time we needed to empty our packed car (past their closing time, on the eve of a holiday!), and helped us to rent a car and find lodging, so we could try to find a solution to our dilemma in safety and comfort. It was quite a challenge, but we managed in a couple of days to find a car and continue our trip, and we've made it to Chicago. The kind people at Mastertech helped change what might have been a terrible ordeal into a more manageable setback. It is wonderful to know, and for the kids to witness, that there are still such nice, honest, helpful people as Joey and the rest of the Mastertech crew in the world, people who treat strangers like friends. If we lived in Salt Lake City, Mastertech would be our mechanics for life! read more

So I never, I should say rarely give low ratings because I always want the people to be able to make it right. New to the neighborhood, my previous mechanic had his toe broken so I took my car to this place. They had my car for 3 weeks before even working on it. They also charged me over $2000 and the engine light is still on and that's what they said they'd fix. They've continued to ignore my voicemails or calls and I have no way of getting my money back or even feeling safe in my car still. Jiffy lube quoted me $800 which was a ton and then this place manipulated me so much by saying if I didn't get all the work done it would be pointless because my car would break down. I've waited on writing this because I wanted them to make it right. They didn't even do an oil change after all the work that "needed" to be done. We are in a pandemic, my husband and I are sharing a car, and work isn't even consistent for him right now. Not getting into that but this alone was the worst mechanic scenario I've ever had. If I'm wrong then please call me back and make right the situation, otherwise I can only warn people so they don't end up out tons of money and then don't even know if there car is safe after all that. read more

These people are con artists. I was driving my 1989 Mercedes across the country, and the alternator went bad about 20 miles from their location. They confirmed the alternator was bad, and they ordered one. Before it came in, they told me that the car had an extremely bad and dangerous oil leak, and they suggested I transfer ownership over to them so that they can junk it. I was aware that the car had a leak, and I didn't want to endanger my son, so I rented a car, transferred ownership to them, and carried on. They told me they would follow up with the amount of money they received from the junk yard. They said it would be around $100. I didn't intend to bother them about it, as I figured it would compensate them for their time. However, during my last call with them, I got the sense that they did not intend to junk it. Busy with moving in to my new house, I decided to forget about it for the moment. Out of curiosity, I eventually googled "1989 260e Mercedes Utah," and I saw my car listed online. They sold it right off their lot. I recognized the nearby buildings in the pic, and I confirmed with Google Maps. The listing says, "Good looking and running car drives good." Really? I thought it had a dangerous oil leak that wasn't worth fixing. Odd. They either lied to me about the severity of the leak, or they lied to the buyer. Either way, they never followed up with me, and they, as I figured when I was there, took advantage of my situation. They had it listed for $500. Worst part is AAA recommend them. I'm not very trusting of mechanics. We took our 20 year old Toyota to the dealership for repair. My husband can usually fix things but was stumped on this one. The dealership said they were sure what it was and wanted $1000. My husband ended up doing this repair himself for $300 and it turned out that wasn't it. We got a recommendation to take it to Mastertech. They spent 2 days troubleshooting. They didn't find the problem but I really appreciate their honesty. They didn't pretend to know what it was and "fix" what wasn't broken just to make a dollar. In fact, they didn't charge us because they didn't find the problem. That kind of honesty and integrity is outstanding. Please give these guys your business because I sure will! Let's keep honest people like this in business! read more

Cannot say enough good things about this place. Was driving through town and had car trouble and was worried about continuing alone with kids. Not only did they agree to look at my car (no one else I called even would), but when I got there 3 employees left what they were doing to come look and quickly asses the situation. Even the receptionist was helping me with options. They then proceeded to say they would fit me in that day, drive parts over from somewhere else, and rushed to get it fixed in time for us to leave that day. I am dissappointed by my experience at Mastertech. I was running errands in Salt Lake when I lost oil pressure and oil started leaking from under my truck. In the rain I crawled under it and saw it looked like it was leaking near the oil filter housing. I reported this to Mastertech when I dropped it off. I had them in mind to service my AC after reading online reviews, so it seemed natural to take it to them since I was nearby. The next day I got a call with a recommendation for $375 to replace valve cover gaskets, steam clean the engine and add dye to find the leak. They also recommended another $80 to replace a serpentine belt ($35 at Autozone and about 3 minutes labor). Hmmm! Also recommended a replacement of the fuel filter @ $80 if nothing went wrong. Of course, being a 1996 Salt Lake truck I suspect a lot of rust problems with both fuel and brake lines (that run together by the filter) should I start messing around with them. Mind you, I had no issues with fuel delivery. Alas, the AC system was addressed as charge, dye & inspect @$135. I elected to pick up my truck without service. There was no charge. All the staff was very friendly. I drove to Autozone's parking lot. Now sunny, I wiped down the underside of the truck, started it and within about 90 seconds found a stream of oil originating at the oil pressure switch. Its now 12:30pm... I picked up the truck at 8:15am. The switch is replaced, no leaks, oil pressure is fine. My total cost DIY: $42 (switch + special switch socket). During this time I also ate breakfast at Astro Burger, and went shopping @ Harbor Freight tools. My total time invested in the actual repair was about an hour. The lack of addressing the problem for which the truck was take to them is what most depresses me. The $365 to investigate vs. what should have cost about $200 to fix by (parts and labor) them should alarm you as a perspective buyer here. I think $40 labor to install a serpentine belt speaks volumes. read more

They will always tell it to you straight, never sell you fixes that you don't need, and understands a tight budget and will help me plan for future maintenance and repairs. I feel bad I waited so long to write this review as I had a very positive experience with MasterTech in May of 2018. I have a 96 Dodge 2500. The gas tank was leaking severely. I took it into MasterTech to see if they could fix it. The tank could not be patched and the worse news was that Dodge stopped making the gas tank. Everybody there went out of their way to help me find a suitable tank replacement. They were able to find a direct replacement that was used and installed it very quickly. What I really couldn't believe was how LITTLE they charged me. I expected the bill to be double. Thank you for the great job in fixing my truck and the very reasonable cost to do so. read more

I recently purchased a 92 Chevy G20 van for camping, which needed quite a bit of maintenance. I took it into master tech and they were very knowledgeable of these types of older vehicles. They were thorough in their inspection and review of what needed to be fixed. They sent me a detailed email of what critically needed to be done and what could wait. What impressed me most about this auto shop was how they went above and beyond to fix the motor of the back seat that folds it down into a bed. Being an old vehicle, the company that made the motors was no longer in business. Luckily, master tech had some great connections and found me a used one for a great deal! They replaced the button as well to prevent the motor from burning out again. It's hard to find an auto shop with that kind of customer service!
