Maybe he felt bad for me, maybe he wanted to make a show of good faith, but he didn't even charge me for the diagnostic in that instance. I ended up selling that car for scrap and eventually buying a new car. I brought the new car in for a pre-purchase inspection and WOW, Jessy and his team really showed their true colors on how thorough they are! They checked absolutely everything. They even checked the cabin air filter because he told me that a rodent had built a nest in it. They found things that other shops had missed. Is there such a thing as being too thorough? Jessy might be! But I'd rather have my auto shop be extremely thorough and triple check everything rather than be sloppy and miss things. Their attention to detail and commitment to quality is obvious, right down to how they require appointments for their shop. They want to make sure that every single car gets the attention it needs. The first red flag was that the receipt I was given before payment was an un-itemized, handwritten note. A few weeks later, my car's check engine light came on. When I took it back to Alpine Foreign Repair, they confirmed that they had put over a quart of excess oil in the car. The excess oil had foamed over and was preventing the camshaft from rotating at the right speed, and the oil had dripped on the engine in several places. With all the 5 star reviews this shop has, I expected this to be fixed quickly. Unfortunately, they treated the situation as a huge inconvenience. They were unsure of what exactly was done on the car; the services to my car weren't in the system, and the handwritten receipt didn't provide enough info to understand what oil or how much was put in the car. No responsibility taken, no apology, no info on what had happened, just a quick drain of the oil and told me to have a good day. I asked if this would fix the check engine light being on, and mentioned my concerns with the issues the excess oil had caused. They assured me that the issues I had were completely unrelated to the excess oil, but if the issue did persist, it'd be a $1600 fix. The local dealership had quoted me $600 for a fix in the worst case scenario, so this absurdly large quote didn't make any sense. I realized the shop had no interest in fixing the mistake they made, and took my car to another nearby shop for a second opinion. The other shop flushed the oil and, before they could turn the check engine light off, it turned off on its own. The overfill was absolutely the cause, and I haven't had issues since. I'm shocked that a shop claiming to specialize in European cars messed up something as basic as an Audi oil change. Looking at the age of most of these positive reviews, my guess is that management or technicians have changed recently, and standards have dropped. Mistakes happen, but their complete unwillingness to provide restitution or honest service is disappointing. If you're reading Yelp reviews like I was to try and see if this shop is right for your car, service, and budget, I would advise to stay away. I'd recommend taking your car to any other shop for any type of car service.
