Fish was pretty good quality, years better than most other places around (yet not as good as in coastal town, no surprise though). The cuts of fish were pretty good sized, not that super thin crap you get at the cheap places where it's mostly rice. The mini round river with boats and Sushi on top at the central bar was really cute. We ordered off the menu though, got the second largest Set with sashimi, nigiri, rolls... Everything was delicious, especially loved the one roll and their thick sashimi pieces. Added 2 maki rolls and one handroll, also all very good. We were both full at the end of the meal. Food plus 1 bottle of water came out at €54. So basically €27/person for great sushi, definitely fair price and totally worth it. It's not a huge place, I can see it get really busy on the weekends so you might want to make a reservation. We were there during the week for dinner and it was about 2/3rds full. Our waitress was attentive and sweet so huge props on customer service, since it's a bit different in Germany compared to states. The atmosphere in Hiami Sushi Bar is very cozy and warm, we sat by the window and watched the rain, so it was truly perfect date mood. It's a fairly small place, with intimate setting, so that's something to consider before coming there. We ordered salmon miso soup and in a weather like we had that day it hit the spot. Maybe it was a warm sake that we had, which is perfect pairing for sushi all time any time. We ordered chef special, it was a way to go since we were happy with every piece of sushi that we had. So highly recommend if you don't know what to order, yet feel super hungry. Chefs special is great choice for two in case you're having a date. Also I have to add that I'm not big on tempura, but oh boy the roll I had was scrumptious! Just the right amount of crunch and fresh combination. Defines you going to order tempura again. Very close to authentic korean food. The interior is very clean and spacious. The restaurant felt like it was newly opened recently. The service was very good. Although there was only 1 male server waiting and hosting, he did a good job of asking if we needed anything, three times during the meal. (We were there after 9pm, the late timing might explain the solo server.) The food was the most authentic korean food we have tried in Germany thus far. It still wasn't quite as good as in the States or Korea, but considering how many korean places we have tried in Germany (berlin, dresden, frankfurt, stuttgart, mannheim, born, heidelberg...), it was awesome. The price is €€~€€€, it wasn't expensive but it was more than the average. All in all, great korean restaurant. Hope it stays open a long time. Highly recommended.

Started recently to come here for lunch regularly. Today, though, I ordered an udon soup for lunch, which was simply too salty and sweet to even eat. I was very hungry, but still couldn't manage more than 2 or 3 bites. I have almost never returned food in a restaurant in my life! But this time I mentioned something to the waiter and asked if I could have something else instead. He said that I could if I paid for both the uneaten dish and the new one. I didn't want to pay twice so had nothing else and let him take the inedible (to me) soup away uneaten. So today, over a 9 Euro bowl of Udon, this restaurant has lost all our future business. We paid 30 Euros for my husband's sushi, my uneaten soup, and some water, and will never return. This is a type of customer service approach that I simply do not understand.

The big standout on this place is that it has plenty of room, not like a majority of places I have gone to in Erlangen. I am sure this space is needed during the lunch time crowd. Hiro Sakao concentrates on Japanese and sushi dishes on their menu. In fact, their sushi menu is quite extensive. I decided on the Gyoza dumplings to start out with and the Ochi sushi roll for the main dish. I found both of them ok, nothing that I would rate as outstanding but definitely ok. It hit the spot for lunch. I found that after the order was taken, it was hard to get service to come back and attend to us. We had a particulary frustating time trying to secure our bill and get back on our way at the end. On top of that, if running your meal on a credit card, it seems a very slow process here as well, just to let you know (my colleague had a frustrating time with getting the transaction complete). Bottom line: An A-OK lunch spot, not outstanding but not bad either. There are a few speed bumps with service and getting transactions completed in timely manner but it serves the purpose for getting a lunchtime sushi fix.
