Been to Matcha Maiko a few times and the quality is always consistent. The pandan soft serve is good, but I wish the flavor was stronger. The matcha soft serve is smooth, creamy, and super yummy, but my friends and I agree that the ube flavor is even better. The banana pudding is very sweet and comes topped with banana slices and vanilla wafers. Putting it on top of ice cream is a fun concept, but I got sick of the sweetness of it all pretty quick. Love, love, love cafe maiko. I'm such a matcha fan and this place does not disappoints. Their ice cream is soft serve and it's delicious. I get the matcha flavor and it has a waffle cone. My son loves their classic vanilla one. They usually have some season flavors and offerings as well. My husband tried vanilla and banana pudding last time which was delicious and was part of their seasonal menu. They also have drinks like smoothies and lattes as well. Their service is fast and efficient. They are usually very busy and have a line but it goes fast and the employees at the cash register are pretty fast at getting the order ready. This location is pretty small but they have two really cute tables that are the Asian style sitting on the floor. As well as a few regular tables and chairs . Food I tried the mango sticky rice and it was delicious. I wish I went with vanilla ice cream but the mango ice cream was still good. The rice was soft and it was well crafted. I also tried banana ube swirl and that may have been too sweet. Shoutout to the cashier for recommending banana, I would never have tried it otherwise! This cafe is very cozy, with cute low lighting and minimal seating, so if you have a crowd of people maybe order to-go. I reduced the rating to four stars because there were some rowdy customers in the section where you remove your shoes and that didn't help the ambience. It's about ~$9 ish and you can choose whatever soft serve you prefer. I went with the matcha, but they also have Ube (which is DELISH) and vanilla. I enjoyed this sundae a lot! The banana pudding didn't have that fake banana taste, and had nilla wafers on the top and little chunks of banana. It wasn't too sweet, and went surprisingly well with the Matcha ice cream. I've been to few Matcha Cafe Maikos on the East Coast and the one I've taken my friend to try out out in Duluth definitely left an impression of being top 2 best Maikos I've been to. This place serves a variety of matcha products starting from drinks to soft serve icecream or even icee. I've never tried anything else, as I always get and do recommend their regular soft serve match on either a cone or cup. The portion size is fairly large. If it's your first time, I recommend paying a little extra for their "Golden Shogun" which is essentially a regular soft serve match on top of a cone with a covering of edible gold. It's really just for social media or for fun as it serves no other purpose besides for a photo opportunity; no taste difference too. Best part of this place was they gave a freezer with pints of soft serve for sell. Of all the Maikos I've been to, I've never been able to save their soft serve for later until now. I bought 2 pints of matcha although they had other flavors and was able to bring it back home with me. The interior decor was homely and presented a welcoming environment to just relax, enjoy icecream, and chat. It was extremely busy and there were no seats available. Customer service was great! Facilities were kept clean along with everything else, so no complaints! Highly recommend this place if you're looking for some good soft serve matcha. read more

I'm a matcha lover! This is a matcha lovers paradise. This cafe stays consistently busy on the weekends. My favorite is the parfait. I am sad they stopped giving the chestnut in the parfait. It added a nice texture and flavor. They also do a nice job of providing a rotational flavor. I've seen everything from ube, thai iced tea, pandas coconut, lychee to black sesame flavored. The waffle cones are tasty too. If you're feeling fancy pants you can get their shogun- 24K gold topped on your soft serve. The Matcha Mako special pictured here was $10 too much in my opinion! The pieces of poundcake were stale, but the rest of it was pretty tasty though a little too sweet in my opinion. I went here on a Thursday afternoon and there was hardly anybody in there. They have a seating area where you sit on the floor without your shoes which is pretty authentic and would've made for some nice photos if I was with friends. I was really looking forward to trying this place. We walked in on a Sunday and the ambience was ok didn't really get greeted small spot wouldn't be able to fit or sit much. The menu is pretty reluctant. There's ice cream you can take to go in pint containers. I got the Maiko Special my dad didn't really care for it. The Matcha Brown Sugar drink was good. I'm glad there's a closer location to me! Once I saw how close it was, I had to just stop by especially with this hot weather we've been having. Comparing to the other location in, I believe Doraville, my first impression of this place is that the seating isn't as ideal. If this place had more windows, I would love it more. It feels a little crowded, but thankfully it doesn't get full easily. The plus side of this location is that you can get pints of ice cream. My go-to order is just a cup of matcha soft serve ice cream, and it tastes the same as the other one in Doraville. They also have other menu items such as a variety of matcha lattes, crepe cakes, shaved ice, and some fried food like tempura. Bluntly put, I was extremely disappointed with this location of Matcha Cafe Maiko. I'm a huge fan of this chain...and the one I've frequented in Charlotte location has always been stellar in every way. However, I was nearly shocked at how poorly they did things at this Duluth location. Though labeled a "Premium" location, given that they serve up much more variety of goodies, including Crepe Mille Cakes and other famous Japanese desserts, they did NOT put up any efforts at improving the customer experience. First of all, I ordered not 1, but 2 of their Mille Crepe Cakes. I planned on trying just the Matcha flavor, but then I saw that they were currently serving up Taro...and just couldn't resist. In my defense, I didn't plan on actually eating all of it...but maybe having half of each. Also, I noticed that also offered this rarely seen dessert, Dango, which tastes a lot like Boba Balls, but further flavored up! I ordered 2 skewers of these (which wasn't necessary, actually, because these were much bigger sized than anticipated. Also, I ordered their Black Sesame Milk Tea w/ Boba. WELL...everything I ordered were served up in cheap, plastic To-Go packages...even though I clearly said I was eating in. Huh?? I actually asked if they had plates...but nope! BTW, the attitude of the cashiers were rather rude...and I can't believe I actually gave them $4 tips! BTW, the Crepe Mille Cakes tasted great, but the texture was off. They were so creamy, the layers just kinda blended in. Also, the Taro tasted better than the Matcha...which was surprising, 'cuz this place specialized in Matcha. The Dango sticks tasted good, but again, these 3 huge balls on a skewer were too big. Given the sticky toppings on these, I can't believe they shoved these in a paper bag (?!?)...again, AFTER me telling them that I was eating in. I could barely get these skewers out of the bag without ruining the whole thing...they basically were stuck unto the paper! Can't believe they couldn't afford to place the 2 skewers on a damn plate! OMG?!? I regretted ordering 2 of these. Honestly? I regretted ordering ALL of it. If I knew they delivered everything in such cheap, fast food manner, I would have gladly went elsewhere to get my cravings fulfilled. Overall, I was really turned off by the cheap/slack presentation of their foods (especially given that this is not the case with the ones I've been to at other locations). I can't believe a "Premium" location of this chain can be so slack. No Instagram advertisement for them...from my end, that is! I can't believe I wasted my time and money going here (to hang out even?), amidst several dozen superb bakery cafes in this town! I still love this chain, and will try best to skip this location. read more
