Really solid place for matcha and matcha desserts! I came with somewhat set expectations from visiting one of their locations in San Fran. For my first visit on a Saturday afternoon around 3:30pm, I ordered their hojicha latte with oatmilk and 50% sugar, which is what I tried in Cali. The drink was ok, a little less sweet and a little more bitter than I remembered, which may just be the variation in person making the drink. What I had to ding them for is the wait time tho...it was super busy with 3 people manning register and prep stations, but it legit took 25 minutes to get a latte. And not just for me, but for everyone. Meanwhile the staff had to alternate between taking orders at the register and making the drinks, serving ice cream, so at any given time there was a longer-than-necessary wait time to order or be served. I felt bad for the staff, bc it seemed like too much to keep up, though I also wasn't sure if it was bc their pace could be sped up, or if their roles needed better arrangement. In any case I'll be back most likely to try some of their desserts, fingers crossed next time the wait will be more reasonable. read more

Matcha Cafe is a great place to come for a dessert. Be careful of the potentially long waits and sorta pricey menu items. But the matcha flavor really comes through, which I appreciate. I recommend getting the floats. The ice cream eventually melts into the beverage, making it super creamy and delightful. read more

This is my go to spot for matcha ice cream. Located at a stall in the tangram mall, ordering easy and fast. After having tried the ube, hojicha, and matcha my favorite is still the matcha soft serve. The depth of flavor is unparallelled as well as the creaminess. The hojicha has that nice roasted flavor but is a bit too strong for my taste. I always have to stop here when I visit the mall. They have the perfect matcha desserts that are pictureworthy and totally yummy especially if you are a matcha or tea fanatic. These desserts definitely feel on par with those found at Mitsuwa or in a back alley in Japan. They have a rotating menu of soft serve flavors some of which are seasonal. I have been fortunate to try them all such as the Sakura cherry blossom flavor, peach oolong, calpico, ube, strawberry, hojicha and of course the matcha. Like choosing a favorite child I cannot. They were all good. Creamy and refreshing and with that nice earthy tea taste. If you are like me you can get the swirl and try two at once. Their cones have great flavor if you like that extra crunch I personally favor the shaved ice topped with soft serve and mochi and red bean it's like 2 desserts and a drink in one for only a few cents more and great for sharing with that special someone. Don't forget to ask for a few shakes of the special ground tea toppings. I love these matcha desserts and green makes it healthy right?! If you want to be even more healthy you can have your tea topped with ice cream. If you wanna go fancy you can even add gold leaf to your cone. The only downside is trying to find a seat by navigating the food hall before your ice cream melts. This place will def save you a trip across the pond or worst case to jersey. We stopped by this place in Tangram and there was a line but it moved super quickly and we were craving dessert after our dinner. They tend to have some special flavors depending on when the season is. I decided to get the Matcha and Ube swirl - which was so creamy and yummy. I will say the matcha flavor is pretty strong so if you are not a fan I would say get another flavor. The ube was delicious as well but I did feel like the matcha over powered the ube in the swirl. My friend got to try their new summer flavors - strawberry and peach oolong swirl and they were absolutely delicious. So light and flavorful - I couldn't tell which flavor I liked more. I didn't find that either flavor overpowered each other and instead they went really well together. Definitely recommend trying out the strawberry and peach oolong swirl if you get a chance too! Highly recommend coming here; so creamy and such a refreshing treat on a hot day. read more

Located in Tangram, one of the best Flushing malls to go to for food, Matcha Maiko is one of the best matcha chains. This location is extremely busy. They do give you the option to order online via a QR code near the line, so you can avoid waiting in line. All of their matcha products are amazing. I especially enjoy their matcha tea, where it's just pure matcha and ice, but I always have a soft spot for their Uji Kintoki and Shaved Ice! I love that you can ask for a swirl combination of any of the four flavors: Matcha, Hojicha, Ube, and (most recently) Melon. I tried a Matcha Latte Float with a swirl of Hojicha/Melon, and it was a surprisingly good combination. You really can't go wrong with any of their products! read more

And first 4 times were definitely 5 star worthy as they were consistently creamy rich and delicious.. but this last time i went, i noticed their ice cream became slushier... I had been waiting for a long time for Maiko to come to NY as my other friends from the West Coast have been raving about it. The initial location was in Manhattan which I had not visited. I then saw signage inside the Tangram mall at Flushing that a location was going to be opening which was a bit more convenient for me to get to. Their matcha is high quality and comes from Uji's Harima Garden which has been in operation since 1858 according to the posted signs. The soft serve was very good (both on the cone and in a latte). Their shogun is is one of the more pricier menu options as it comes with a good sheet topping (no taste or nutritional value). One of the drinks I really liked was their hojicha (roasted green tea) which can come in the form of soft serve or a hot or cold drink. The cold drink version had a very refreshing and distinct flavor that I would definitely order again. Their shaved ice treats are perfect for summer and warmer weather and come with a generous amount of ice cream. If you so not want ice cream the Uji Kintoki is all ice with various toppings like adzuki beans, shiratama and condensed milk. There are seasonal soft serve flavors they have rolled out since opening that last for about a week or so. I managed to get to try their Sakura flavor on a busy Saturday but missed out on their food their flavors like Ube and mango. The soft serve had an air hole in the middle (that how the it swirls so do. It be alarmed). The space was newly renovated and some of the staffs had experience working at other stores which was a plus. Layla helped prepare a lot of my orders during my visit as well as the Inter hardworking staff which unfortunately I do not know their names. The manager Jack was very polite and helpful with suggestions since it was literally my first time visiting. Weekends are insane and duro if their soft open it looked like all of Flushing was in the line waiting for ice cream and matcha drinks. It is a bit slower during the week if you have time to stop by. read more
