Mateo's ice cream is a humble shop in a small parking lot, it's easy to walk by if you don't know what you're looking for. That have two small tables inside and a handful of seats in a separate section outside. The selection is vast! They have all kinds of popsicles, frozen bananas, and many many different types of ice cream. We tried several flavors and I got an agua Fresca--I highly recommend the pina-limon flavor but remember the large is extremely large LOL so you better be thirsty. read more

Located in a strip mall, Mateo's Ice Cream and Fruit Bar can be found on the corner with plenty of parking around. There's quite an extensive menu: bionicos, frozen banana, ice cream, paletas, sundaes, etc. After taste testing some of the unique flavors like leche quemada, horchata, passion fruit, etc. I ended up getting the strawberries and cream and cookies and cream for $6. Went to Mateo's Ice Cream & Fruit Bars on 1250 S Vermont Ave in Los Angeles, This is the first time that I have come to this location. I usually go to the Culver City location that's on 4929 Sepulveda Blvd. The service was great, the ladies working here had great communication and were quick with their work. I got a leche quemada paleta, and my friend that I came with got leche quemada and coffee ice cream. She wasn't a big fan of the leche quemada, but I thought it tasted pretty good. The Ambiance was pretty great, too. Even though it was in a comfortable atmosphere. They do have a parking lot, and it's free parking. Hope this review helps you guys! read more

So I was out and about with one of my good friends and his 2 lil sons and it was the youngest who doesn't talk much, was craving la paletas! I did have some Mexican style ice cream a while back in Georgia and had an awesome experience so I was all in on going here. Nonetheless when I entered I was immediately loving the flavors and colors and the vibe inside. I managed to get a tasting of the flavors I was curious about and ended up with my usual strawberry and cookies and cream... all I have to say is that ice cream was silky smooth. I couldn't stop eating it. My friend bought bars for his 2 boys and himself. I started eyeing those bars and by the time I was done with my usual, I had to have more !! We did a 2nd round of bars and I had that exotic orange colored fruit bar... it was superb ! Texture and flavor , the mouthfeel and in this heat it was cielo !! So each time I am conducting business in this Plaza I happen to see a line for this shop always. My curiosity has been sparked. This colorful, small shop serves, as the signage states, ice cream and fruit bars. They are set apart by the fact that they use real fruit and they make their own products, I mean real food here, no hard to pronounce ingredients. I was also told that they sell really amazing delicious tortas/sandwiched, especially the chicken. So I bliged and tried it. It was well made, the baguette - crispy with that baguette smell, you know, there was lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers so it was not only refreshing, colorful but clean on the palate with the sliced roasted chicken breast. I highly recommend this shop for your sweet tooth and sandwich craving. Oh and they serve milk and water based ice creams and bars, so fantastic. Mateos ice cream & fruit bars offers a great variety of flavors ice cream and Nieves (Spanish for gelato?). Their flavors are unique, refreshing and delicious! I've been a customer since I was 8 when I used to live in the neighborhood. I now reside in San Pedro and yes I do make time to visit them every time I'm around LA. I definitely would choose Mateos over LA MICHOACANA anytime. The only downside at Mateos is their customer service (why I gave this review 4 out of 5 stars) Do not expect to find your high delighted ambiance that you get at Starbucks or Jamba Juice. Their staff at all their locations just seem very vague and neutral. Having that said their ice cream bars compensate for that. I definitely recommend Mateos ice cream bars! :) read more
