We recently graduated from MFA and cannot say enough great things about our experience! First off, the front desk staff are so nice and personable. The doctors are clear about your treatment plans and efficient, which is so important when you're high risk! Last, but certainly not least, our NP Renee was beyond helpful! She always provided such great context when answering our questions and really made us feel heard. She had the especially grueling task of helping us manage my gestational diabetes (which in case it wasn't obvious, is not an easy task!). We are so appreciative of the team! This was an infuriating visit and I will not be returning. I had Covid during my pregnancy and as a result, my OB wanted an ultrasound at 30 weeks and 36 weeks because even if you are recovered from Covid, it can cause issues later in your pregnancy. My OB referred me here after the other MFM practice that I have had my other scans at wasn't able to get me in at 30 weeks. The two stars here go out to Tara who helped me with my paperwork and squeezed me in to get the appointment but that's where the good parts of this visit end. I arrived at my 11:30 appointment a little early. I wasn't seen until 12:15. Yes a long wait, but whatever. I didn't realize that I would be having a full anatomy scan, even though I had one at 20 weeks. I was surprised because I'm not having complications, and my doctor specifically wanted my placenta and growth checked so it unnecessary for the second anatomy scan. If that was the case, the appointment should have started right on time. It was a very lengthy scan. I didn't finish until 12:45. At that point I was ready to see the doctor and get out of there but the ultrasound tech informed me that I would see the nurse practitioner first and then the doctor. Ok but let's wrap it up because at this point I'm exhausted because taught a half day of school, I'm starving because I skipped lunch for this appointment, and I was hoping to take a nap before picking up my daughter from daycare because I had to coach a field hockey game that night. 20 minutes later, I still hadn't seen anyone. I ventured out to the front desk to tell them that it had been over an hour and a half and I needed to be seen. Eventually the nurse practitioner came in but by that time I was frustrated, hungry, and tired. She asked me why my doctor wanted to get the ultrasound if my covid symptoms had cleared up...lady why do I know more about Covid and pregnancy than you do?? I told her why and then she left. Didn't talk to me about the results of my ultrasound, and just said that the doctor was very slow but he was coming. Fast forward to 1:45. I had been at this place for over two hours. I am a pregnant teacher during the pandemic with a toddler. I coach a high school varsity team and we are just starting the season. I am so stressed and overwhelmed by all of these things that having to wait for over two hours to check on the health of my baby, after already having my regular appointment that morning just sent me over the edge. I told the front desk that this was ridiculous and that I needed to leave because I had to pick up my doctor. A doctor was by the front desk and tried to usher me into a room and ask me "why I was there..." WTF??? I told him that I had to leave to pick up my daughter and he told the scheduler to set me up for an arbitrary date of 4 weeks from now. I just left Needless to say 1. I will not be paying for anything from this place 2. I will not be returning. I called my doctor and after they profusely apologized for my experience told me that they would fit me in at my original place and pull some strings with the scheduler. Do yourself a favor and find another practice! read more

Not a fan of this practice at all. I was given a referral from my OB to come here for an ultrasound for a possible miscarriage, and both my husband and I felt that their bedside manner could use some help. The ultrasound tech and the doctor seem knowledgeable, but with such a sensitive/emotional situation, I would've liked a tissue or two! I had to come back again for a new pregnancy--the 20 week ultrasound. The doctor I saw wanted me to schedule a bunch of follow up appointments because my baby was brought to use via IVF. I researched what he had told me and couldn't find any concrete information that such ultrasounds were necessary. I asked my fertility nurse and she confirmed that they aren't necessary. In general, the appointment left me feeling like they use "scare tactics" to get more appointments/make more money. In addition to the not so great experiences, you have to pay upfront. Well, they charged me incorrectly and so I overpaid. I was eventually refunded through my insurance, but it's not something I want to deal with over and over. I asked my OB for a different referral, and even she agreed that this practice tends to look for problems. They seem to be knowledgeable, and the wait time was maybe 15 minutes past my scheduled time. But, it's not nearly enough to overcome the bad feeling I get when I go there. read more

These guys are great had no issues with the office, only giving 4 stars because the valet service is super rude. There is an older gentleman(middle-Eastern looking)who is super rude won't respond to anything either, will roll eyes on you and what not. I asked him if he can be bit professional in his interactions with me. On the way back when we received our car, we found black pen marKs on the front seat(wont say it was intentional). read more

My wife was referred here by another doctor. My recommendation is to find any other high-risk OB/GYN. They have been rude every visit, they make us wait without any reasonable expectation of how long the wait would be (45 minutes on the exam bed), and a lack of communication and professionalism among the staff (conflicting information from doctors and staff). The only reason this gets 2 stars is the doctoral staff is not that bad. Also one imaging tech was nice. read more

Seen for two pregnancies now; a very complicated first pregnancy and a premature baby, and during my second because I was high risk due to the complications during my first. I was seen often and only ever encountered one terribly rude front office person, but she was pleasant the second time I saw her. I thought the first experience was a fluke, though in reading the other reviews, maybe that's just her "personality." Loved all the doctors and ultrasound techs. My second pregnancy was more than successful and I have to give a lot of the credit to the doctors and their treatment plan. I found everyone here pleasant, but agree with other reviews re: the lack of continuity. Business-wise, I believe this place is just that, with profit-maximization as the #1 if not the sole concern. I'm not sure I ever waited less than 15 minutes to get in, and a few times my wait approached an hour. I interpret this as them booking as many appointments as possible; perhaps there are other explanations. Side note: I get really annoyed when public bathrooms repeatedly fail to have soap, particularly at restaurants and medical offices, and this was such an example. All of that said: I almost certainly would have had a stillbirth if I had given into my annoyance and cancelled some appointments. As frustrating as it was, this place proved to be beyond worth it. I'd suggest to just hang in there, since you may not have a lot of options for high risk pregnancies. read more

This is my second pregnancy with MFAMA and I love going here. Everyone is super friendly and easy to work with. Due to my pregnancies being considered high risk I've been in for multiple ultrasounds and never had an issue with any of the techs. read more

I had some of the same problems as other reviewers. Wait time and uncomfortable cervical checks. BUT, Maternal Fetal is a high risk office and some people have serious issues and they need more time. If you were lucky enough to have a healthy, long pregnancy but were upset because you waited, imagine if you had a serious issue. Would you want the doctor to leave you and see someone else because your appointment was taking too long? As for the cervical checks, who wouldn't think this was uncomfortable? BUT, there was always a female employee present in the room when I had my checks and they didn't feel any different from when my female OB did them. I would suggest Maternal Fetal to any of my friends. Dr. Maghak and Maternal Fetal saved our lives. I visited Maternal Fetal years ago, but a friend told me she saw all the bad reviews after she had been referred, and I knew I had to say something. I was referred to Maternal Fetal because, I had a high risk pregnancy from the beginning. IVF for starters and then other health concerns. At 27 weeks, I had feeling something was wrong and I physically felt horrible. I called my OB and they said I was imagining things, and should just stay home and call them again in the morning. I mean SERIOUSLY?!?!?! We rushed to get to Maternal Fetal before they closed, hoping someone would help us. They were closed but a receptionist opened the door after we knocked. She took one look at me and brought us in to the waiting room. Dr. Maghak had left for the day, but she called him and told him he needed to come back and see me. He took my blood pressure and did a scan on my daughter and IMMEDIATELY sent me to the hospital. The hospital was not sure either of us were going to make it. My daughter was born 13 weeks early by emergency c-section and after 2 months in Children's Hospital NICU, she came home. My daughter is now healthy and thriving. If we had listened to my OB, we both would have died. If Dr. Maghak had not agreed to come back to the office, we would have both died. read more

I was seen for routine exams referred by my ob for my second pregnancy. I saw all four doctors in the practice and had amazing care and experiences from all. Also all the staff was very helpful and took time to explain things to me. I would go back if I needed to and recommended others to the practice! read more

The waiting room is nice and the rooms are all clean. On the first visit, someone met with my husband and I for 20 minutes to discuss what the test results mean and what information we will gather from the appointment, which was nice since most of these prenatal appointments aren't as informative. The Doctors are nice although we have only seen two male Drs. Not sure if this would bother you - it didn't bother me at all. The location is also very convenient for us being that it's in Lansdowne. The only cons are that, I checked to make sure MFAMA was in network with my insurance before scheduling the appointment. However, when I arrived, I was given a paper that informed me I should call the insurance company for a preauthorization for the out-of-network lab they would be sending my sonos to. This was really unfortunate for me because I don't' have any out of network benefits and the bill was $160. Something I could have avoided by going someplace else, but didn't have a chance to since this wasn't told to me until I arrived. A preauthorization has to be given prior to the appointment and I don't have any out of network benefits. The other con is that one of the girls at the front desk is not friendly and was very short with me when I called the office and another time at checkout. Even my husband noticed at checkout that especially considering the number of pregnant women walking through their office on a daily basis, you would expect the customer service to be better than what it was from the front desk. read more

So far I've had nothing but good experiences at this doctors office. My favorite doctor is Doctor Jessie great bedside manor and he spends quality time with his patients... I have a favorite sonogram tech too but can't recall her name, you'll definitely know when you experience her (so warm and personable and extremely knowledgable). The office is always clean and a good temp. My only two gripes would be sometimes you have a very long wait and one of the staff at the front desk is extremely rude and argumentative ( dark long hair). read more

Thorough and calm and reassuring and detailed and just took his time with us every time! So amazing we wanted to schedule our appointments all around his schedule and even went to see him in Fairfax for one visit since he was out there at that location rather than Leesburg at our scheduled next appointment visit. Wait time is usually pretty good, office is newly located on a new floor (same building) and is clean and tidy. Reception is great and usually friendly. read more

I am writing this because I'm astonished at the bad reviews. I understand most people don't write reviews if they are happy however I was. I saw MFAMA for my pregnancy last year and I loved them. I had many health issues and needed to see them weekly. I was seen in both the Reston and Leesburg offices and the staff was always very polite. The doctors took the time to answer all of my questions. I did have to wait in the waiting room for some visits but I also knew they are high risk doctors dealing with issues I wouldn't want to happen to me. I definitely wouldn't have wanted them to rush me while I was in the room asking questions. I am so thankful that our daughter is here and healthy. Thank you MFAMA! read more

The Good: -State of the art equipment -Clean offices, atmosphere The Bad: -No relational consistency, we saw different people each time. -They see you as a source of income. Terrible experiences with payment, etc. -Ridiculous number of appointments. I am all about precautions, but after the previous point... The doctors were wonderful, patient and took time to explain things to us. Especially in the first visit - which was great for us as first time parents. The doctors always asked how I was feeling, if we had any questions and took time to explain what was on the monitor. I really appreciated their thoroughness. However, there was one tech that was terribly rude - I believe her name is Shannon. She had a tendency of talking down to us during appointments. At our gender reveal appointment my husband expressed he hoping a boy. Shannon took it upon herself to remind and scold my husband by say, "Don't you mean you want a healthy baby?" It goes without saying, as a parent, you want a happy and healthy baby. I didn't feel as though it was Shannon's duty to remind us as such. At a different appointment, my husband was running about 10 minutes late and I told her this when I arrived. Somehow, she managed to complete my ultrasound before my husband even made it to the parking lot. One of the other techs, the month prior, took the time to explain every single image to us. I can tell you this, that appointment didn't take less than 10 minutes. Maternal Fetal is a wonderful office with excellent doctors. But their technician Shannon could use some lessons in tact and bedside manner. read more

Honestly I would give this place 0 stars if that was an option. I'm not sure what this place's deal is but I can tell you they make their money off of scaring pregnant women. I was referred for the typical 12 week nuchal scan and the 20 week anatomy scan. Both visits I saw two different doctors, who were both rude and had absolutely no personality. I paid way more than I needed to here. I ended up switching from this place to another fetal medicine practice, after going to the new place they were surprised I even had a referral for the scan they were doing. I would recommend finding a different place to go for your typical nuchal and anatomy scan. I have never been caused so much stress from a billing department than the one managed by Feria at Maternal Fetal Associates. They deal with "high risk" pregnancies, however they probably are the reason you become high risk pr could even lose your baby. If you must use them stay away from Reston, the people at Fair Oaks are at least nice and I have dealt with a person or two on the phone that isn't incompetent. But if you want a good experience STAY AWAY. And for the love of all that is good they should get someone with people skills instead of this Feria manager read more

I have always had a great experience here until today. I found out today that the woman who normally does the ultra sounds no longer works here and after my experience today I have come to the realization that the new girl they hired is just plain rude. I normally receive a 15-20 minute ultra sound and the last woman explained everything through the entire exam. The girl I got today did the entire ultra sound in 4 minutes! Every time I asked a question she was sharp with her answers and she argued with me about how far along I was. I realize that your ultra sound says a certain date but as you get farther along in your pregnancy the machine is less accurate with how far along you are. She should of known that. She also got jelly all over my shirt and skirt. Really? Is this her first time doing this? Also I asked her to see the babies face and her response was they only do that at twenty weeks. I explained to her that they had difficulty seeing the babies face last time and we were suppose to explore that at this appointment. Needless to say it didn't happen. This new girl is not personable at all and I'm dreading my next appointment here. This girl needs counseling on how customer service and general manners work. I arrived 20 minutes early for my appointment so there is no reason why she should of been in a rush. As for the previous review with the front desk staff I can honestly say they have always been upbeat and polite for every appointment I have had. read more

I was referred here by my primary care physician as I am an exceptional high risk patient. I can say that I was overjoyed by my pregnancy and was very excited to be seeing such highly recommended and highly qualified doctors. That completely changed the moment I had my first visit. The front desk people are rude. You never have the same doctor twice so their is NO continuity, which leads to explaining the same information over and over. The doctors don't seem to care anything about you or your baby. I felt like they were running a car wash where the idea was to get you in and out as quickly as possible who cares what you need, just get it done. Basically you are just a number here. The appointments are out of control. It feels like they keep you scheduled with unnecessary appointments just to get more money from you. And believe me they do! I've had to have 2 appointments every week now since entering my 3rd trimester and they have taken me for the tune of $400 a month in copays!! They refuse to offer payment plans so you have to pay up front! Be prepared ladies they are gold diggers in the worse sense of the term!! If you get referred here I highly recommend getting a new referral. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! read more
