Was recently a patient doing a short stay there for a needed procedure. They were very friendly professional and easy to work with right from the start when they booked the appointment. On the day of everyone was equally kind and professional. The admitting front desks were quick and easy to check in with. Every nurse at every step was so kind and reassuring. They were very careful and followed all procedures to ensure I was the right patient receiving the proper procedure. Even the transport staff (I think one was Jose) were so kind and did a great job keeping me calm by kindly making small talk. Nurse E. Wolff was wonderful and advocated for my wishes for me so that I could relax for the procedure. She checked in with me about directives id verbalized earlier to ensure I was receiving the kind of care I had asked for. The radiologist/tech Andrew S who operated the Fluoroscope was also excellent and kind. He made sure to add as many warmed blankets as I needed to stay comfortable in the cold room before the procedure and was obviously beyond competent and skilled at providing the imagining. Dr Benjamin Raj and Dr Giovanni Santoro had wonderful bedside manner. They were both extremely professional and informative while keeping me reassured and calm. Both were so kind and did an excellent job. The recovery room nurses were also very kind and helpful and great at their job. Overall the staff exceeded my expectations. If you need a procedure at this hospital I hope some anxiety is alleviated knowing that the staff there is kind and helpful from a human to human perspective but above all competent and skilled at their professional roles. read more

Pre surgical testing required me to call back because of a test problem. Tried for 3 days to contact the person whom i spoke with. No answer, no machine to leave a message. Finally I called my surgeon explaining the problem and the need to know if we are going ahead with surgery. They gave me another direct line, which did have a message machine, but they never responded either. I hope that have a better experience if the surgery does proceed. read more

My father in law was recently brought to Mather. His team of doctors are at stony brook and we proceeded to tell them multiple times to reach out to his doctors. They insisted on doing a procedure(without his doctors consent) which put him into respiratory failure and he had to be put on machines to keep him alive. Finally released from the hospital, we met with his doctor and he told us they were NEVER contacted. We were told multiple times they "tried" to contact his doctor. Lies. Never again will we trust this hospital again. read more

i spent one night in mather hospital after a medical procedure. they screwed up in a number of different dimensions: they did not provide the medications i use every day, and they failed to set up receiving food while i was there. i also asked to speak to the patient advocate, and that didn't happen until three days later after i complained that the patient advocate had never reached me. read more

I was recently at Mather first in the ER (tele) then admitted to 2-South for 9 days. I just want to say from the MA's up to the doctors everyone was super amazing. I wish I can actually remember names of some of the nurses to list them but there wasn't anybody I had a problem with. My care there was beyond amazing. Last nights' care was very good, in general. Great ED nurse Gina! Only issue is another nurse/CNA said 'were sending your urine sample' and then dropped something into the trash! One thing I despise is a liar. Don't ask for one, tell me it's going out to be checked and toss something random into a trash receptacle...because guess what? If I could give zero stars I would. The nursing staff is REALLY NICE and PROFESSIONAL. The doctors are NOT professional in the least. My father went into Mather hospital for a blood infection. He wasn't able to get up and he was unresponsive. He also has COPD. A doctor called and told us that he has liver stones (he's had these stones for 20 years and never wanted them removed) we were told by the doctor that he may not survive the anesthesia. We declined surgery. The doctors NEVER kept us updated on his progress or what was causing the infection. They kept telling us "we don't know". It wasn't until my father was transported to the nursing home, that I was told from the PARAMEDICS, that he had sepsis caused by his liver stones. I had to find out my father has sepsis from the paramedics because the doctors at Mather NORTHWELL HEALTH DECLINED to keep us informed about his condition. That is beyond messed up. So unprofessional. Malpractice at best. Stay FAR AWAY from here. Go elsewhere. Ever since Mather became northwell health it's been a disaster. First and last experience with this hospital. Very unprofessional, Dr. Rohan Perera who's a cardiologist, walked in into my wife's room without permission or knocking, as wife was getting dressed and instead of him apologizing he walk in and started to have a conversation with my wife as she's half naked. This was very uncomfortable for my wife and Dr Perera acted oh it's okay to stare at my wife while she's in that situation. He had no shame. Complained to the hospital and the administrations refused to discuss our concerns or apologize in person. they called us for a minute and apologize over the phone and didn't even give us the respect to speak to us in person. Doctors at this hospital don't know or care about patients privacy. we will never go back. They didn't even give us instructions on how to take the medications and forgot to send one of the medications to the pharmacy. read more

horrible experience, not a one off! I don't like writing bad reviews based on a one time experience. The first time I brought my son to the ER. it was traumatic to say the least and we were left in the hallway, only for him to experience the horror or police restraining patients. someone vomiting in front of us. another patient screaming out for hours on end. My own son threw up and it took my asking 3 times to get help!! Second visit to ER with my mother was no better. Waited hours upon hour. To be placed, yet again, in the ER hallway AFTER she was brought in by ambulance, waited over 3+ hours for X-ray results, her bed was banged into numerous times. Seen a nurse 1-time. no follow up, no care. I will not make the mistake a third time, never again. read more

I have three doctors that I want to give a positive review for. Dr. Mojito Sharma is part of Three Village Cardiology. He is great. I see him every six months. He takes care of my heart. His staff is great. NP Scott Sussman's is part of Mather Primary Care at Stony Brook. It is Dr. Jessica Bludenburg's office. Scott is one of the best that I ever went to. He is very proactive. Dr. Katherine Roth is a Neurologist. I have been going to her for years. Besides helping me with my headaches, she saves me money on my prescription. She is great and her staff is great. If you don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of time out of your day or night at the hospital, choose a different one. There should be 1 Dr dedicated to patients with quicker issues, and the rest of the Dr's for emergencies. That would be a strategic way to go. I have been to this hospital 5 times. I swear they make you wait for results forever.....even when there are not many patients, just so they could look like they are more busy. You barely ever see a dr checking in on patients. They are lucky the nurses and X-ray techs are friendly and caring. If I was in charge, I would not let Dr's waste time. There should be more than 1 radiologist to read X-ray's and other tests. Waiting for that and for a dr that is usually doing nothing are the hold up. They really don't care about patients time being spent wastefully!! read more

The care and attention provided to me was beyond exceptional. Honestly, I didn't want to leave. From the initial phone call for my prep to the wheelchair ride out the main door, I felt like a celebrity. I was admitted under the care of Dr. Lieboff, who is a saint. My dad has been a patient here on and off for years now and we have never had a bad experience! The nurses and nurses' aides have always been friendly and helpful, the PA's and admitting doctors as well. He's been here for ER visits, surgeries and when he hasn't been feeling well and needed antibiotics and every time it's been nothing but good. They work hard and do their best. And our most recent visit on Sunday night (8/11) that unfortunately resulted in him being admitted, they have been nothing but helpful, professional and the nursing staff that we interacted with that night (Shannon, John) and registration (Katherine) were all amazing! read more

Was in psych for depression, TERRIBLE patient communication, neglectful and condescending staff there, doctors were rude, unprofessional, dismissive, and lacking compassion especially for the field they're in. Feels very placating without actually doing anything. Only thing to do there is watch TV until mealtimes or pace the halls or color with broken crayons. Dr Lasker met me in a moment of distress and suddenly knows for a fact that I'm bipolar because in his words "I'm the mental health professional here." then a day later according to him I'm not bipolar (I already knew this) and that he "wont actually know what I have until months of observation" but refused to listen when I told him the first time. I submitted a complaint asking for a simple apology and the two women who called to respond would only repeat that they let go of a lot of the staff. They all made my experience at 68 years old so pleasant. I only wish I could remember everyone's name. All these people do every morning, every night, every day is work hard for every patient so they can make us all well.....God Bless them all and they all deserve raises too. Went in to the Emergency room at 1:00 am on Friday morning with severe back muscle spasms. I was there from 1:00 to 11:00. Not much could be done besides medication and rest. During my yelping pain , they slid me an envelope with my $100 co pay bill. Now on Palm Sunday/ Passover holiday , i get a phone call from Sally , not checking up on me but hawking me for the $100 copayment! They sent her home with nothing, told her to find an ENT instead (after urgent care told her to go to the ER IMMEDIATELY), and didn't listen to her, or myself (her daughter). If you are looking for an example of how broken America's Healthcare System is look no further than the Mather Hospital emergency room. I went in after falling a second time and injuring a knee to seek treatment. After telling me it is likely soft tissue damage they urged me to get an x-ray. After the xray showed fluid on the knee I asked if they can give me an MRI to better look at the soft tissue damage and they refused. I said sure "that's fine how about a prescription so I can go off site and get one somewhere so I can bring that to my orthopedist"... they absolutely refused after I asked time and time again. Refused....I wasn't asking for drugs I wasn't asking for treatment.. I was asking for a piece of paper so I can go get the explorative test done that they would not do on-site, although they have equipment. Now I need to wait at least a week to see an orthopedist who will write me a prescription and then wait likely 3 to 5 days to get an MRI and get the results and then another week before I can be seen for treatment of the injury. So much for an emergency room. So roughly 3 weeks to get treated. Furthermore I really didn't appreciate having my medical issues talking about loud enough that everybody in the emergency room can hear. But don't worry they still made sure to bill me for a $70 co-payment and give me not only no medical attention but not even the means to go receive it elsewhere. Do me a favor if I get hit by a bus in front of this place just leave me in the street. read more

Stay away from this careless hospital!!! Hey Mather Hospital ... you should know what you are prescribing. It's your job to know better what drugs to prescribe. FYI since you don't know.... Studies have shown that older adults with dementia (a brain disorder that affects the ability to remember, think clearly, communicate, and perform daily activities and that may cause changes in mood and personality) who take antipsychotics (medications for mental illness) such as olanzapine have an increased chance of death during treatment. Older adults with dementia may also have a greater chance of having a stroke or mini-stroke during treatment. Olanzapine is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of behavior disorders in older adults with dementia. Talk to the doctor who prescribed this medication if you, a family member, or someone you care for has dementia and is taking olanzapine. You could be bleeding on the floor and they'd make you wait 5 hours in the waiting room to be seen. I came in 11am on a Monday, and waited abd was still not seen by 230. I kept telling them that my pain was getting worse and all I got was IGNORED. I was just there the day before for something else , and it had gotten worse. Wish I could give negative stars. Went to the ER as the drill slipped and went through my thumb. Get there in pain and bleeding. Sat in the waiting room 2 hours bleeding!!! Finally complained and they assured me I was next. 15 minutes later I complained again, ready to leave. And 15 minutes later, I get taken to the back. I tell them I'm not sitting here another 2 hours so please let me know now. Well there are no guarantees, but a Dr would see me shortly. 20 minutes later, a nurse shows up. I tell him I'm done and ready to leave. He tells me he would at least give me the tetanus shot they ordered, which he did. He said he would get the Dr. Another 20 minutes, nothing. I walked out, 4 hours later, still bleeding and definitely needing a few stitches. Oh, but they did manage to take a very unnecessary x-ray, to rack up the insurance charges. My husband had to wait in the car due to Covid regulations, but 3 security guards not wearing masks at the door was necessary. He came in to get a soda and they freaked out. Becoming part of Northwell Health is probably the worst thing to ever happen to this hospital. My family and I have been cared for at Mather for years. I am extremely disappointed and shocked at how operations at this hospital has changed since the partnership. My dad came in with Covid Pneumonia and less than 24 hours after showing up I was told by a resident doctor "your father has Covid pneumonia which has a very high mortality rate. His potential to die is high and there's a strong potential he doesn't survive this." I know his prognosis was grim but how about "your father is very sick, but I assure you we will do everything we can to try to save him". He was dead to them as soon as he walked in the door. That same resident convinced my dad to sign a DNR by standing in front of his bed and saying "I'm a healthy man, if my heart was to stop the nurses would run in and start doing compressions. We know there's a 30/40% chance it would work. If your heart stops, there's less of a chance you'll make it and with the right way to do compressions... we're definitely breaking a rib, and if you do survive it's going to be an extremely long recovery." I watched on video, in horror as this doctor explained a DNR to my father. My father, a man who also happens to have a history of mental illness. He was an inpatient at Mather a few years back. And despite my father flip-flopping on whether he really wanted a DNR after signing it.... and despite me bringing to the doctors' attention that I was his health care proxy and I did not think he was in the right mental state to be signing a DNR since he was off of his meds for two years, the DNR remained. In fact, I was told people with mental illness can make their own choices, people with mental illness can order a hamburger. I understand the outcome of my situation may not have been any different anywhere else, but the sheer lack of compassion is astonishing. I couldn't even get a doctor to call me once a day. Oh, and I would like to publicly apologize to the random patient my uncle was watching while my dad was on comfort care. Yeah, that happened. The "iPad" patched him into someone else's room. He thought he was saying his goodbyes to my dad, but it was a stranger. Choosing to seek care for my father at Mather was just a horrible experience on top of what was already a horrible situation. Don't get me wrong, there were a handful of nurses and a doctor who were absolutely amazing. I really appreciate them, they made me remember the old Mather and what this hospital used to be about. read more

I was in this hospital 3 times in less than a month and a half back in September of last year into the middle of October last year. My stomach hadn't been great that year to begin with so my GI doctor put me on Humira which they believed would help my stomach not be so bad but instead my stomach got way worse within a couple weeks after starting the Humira. they believe that he may also cause the abscess on my arm as I've had a few of the abscesses on my body ever since I began taking it. My first stay was from 9/6/2018 - 9/10/2018 due to a bowel obstruction in my stomach from my Crohn's disease. The second stay was from 9/25/2018 - 10/3/2018 due to a second bowel obstruction. The third stay was from 10/6/2018 - 10/12/2018 due to an abscess on my wrist that had to be lanced. The staff in this hospital were awesome. I actually got a recliner in my room done the second stay and third stay. I had no idea they existed during the first stay. It was only when I saw that my roommate had one during my second stay that I realize they had them. So I asked the nurse for one and they gave it to me within a few minutes. The first two stays I was in 2 South in the same room in the same exact bed. The third stay I was in 2 East. The nurses were super nice. This hospital was awesome. By the way I did end up getting stomach surgery at The Mount Sinai hospital in the city on January 31st 2019. With three feet of small intestines removed I am no longer in pain. I was there from 1/30/19 - 2/5/19. You guys did the best you could but eventually I did had to get surgery. I tried acupuncture at the acupuncturists across from your hospital. His name is Dr. Ben. They thought the acupuncture would help my stomach but the affected areas were too far gone. One of the surgeon's at The Mount Sinai Hospital is specialized in that type of surgery. You guys did a good job by saving me from a life threatening obstruction in my stomach which resolved itself after having the NG tube put down my nose for the first few days during my first and second stay to pump out my stomach at the time I was at your hospital. read more

Went to the hospital and seen a dr named kim in the er. I had a severe allergic reaction and they gave me steroids and said there is not much we can do for you here. Ok, but you didn't do any blood work to see if I had an infection in my body nor checked my blood sugar after giving me steriods which I'm a diabetic. Told them I had issues breathing and blurriness in my eyesight. You don't just say there is nothing we can do for you here when you have not even done the basics. I had knee replacement surgery at Mather Hospital and my experience was all positive from start to finish. They have strict COVID requirements in place. Every person I came in contact from the doctors and nurses down to the custodial staff were friendly, caring, responsive and accommodating . True angels. Special mention to the kitchen. We all know how bad hospital food can be but the food I had there was delicious and comparable to food you might find in fancy restaurants. Yesterday I had the orange glazed salmon with roasted potatoes and it was outstanding. read more
