I make special trips 5 hours each way, to buy five things- andouille, smoked sausage, fresh pork sausage, frozen French bread dough, and fresh dried beans. I bring my big cooler, load up, and plan gumbos, jambalaya meals, and barbecues with fresh sausage, and red beans and sausage. I plan my visits about every six months and budget about $150. These people are the heart of Cajun culture making you feel welcome. Nothing beats Don's meats. Some of the steaks were amazing, but my focus is on the staples. Bread dough is a little extra treat. You can cut it to make 12 rolls, bake the loaf after it has thawed and risen, or my old fashioned favorite- defrost the dough, cut strips. Fry strips in oil. Drain and butter while hot. You can add syrup if you wish, but that's gilding the rose. Makes my mouth water. The service is always fast, courteous and friendly. Visiting home when I hear the Cajun accents. You won't be sorry to make the trip. Service is great! They will cut meat and tell you about the boudin and other delicacies in the store.
