Absolutely love this place and been a customer for 25+ years. Great butcher shop and liquor selection and maybe the best fried chicken in the region. The problem I had the last few times I have been there is the guy at the register is a total JERK. I've tried small talk and joking with him but he always seems irritated. I have been wanting to try this place for a few months. I always see the advertisement for their large shrimp poboy on their sign by the road. It is a small deli inside of a meat market store. Finally stopped by and the food was great! You can't beat this size of this poboy for $7.99. We also got egg rolls. Kudos to them, we got our food in about 10 minutes (they were busy when we stopped in and seemed short staffed). I'm satisfied with my experience here! read more

My husband has been trying more and more to eat Halal as much as possible. In this area, options are limited, but Saia's is the ONLY place (without crossing the causeway) that offers a limited selection of halal meat for purchase. The quality of the meat is excellent and the staff there was very understanding and receptive to our questions when we called to inquire. The store also has a huge array of alcohol, prepared foods and local delicacies for purchase. Since moving a month ago, this is the only place we have purchased meat and the pricing was comparable, if not better, than even Sam's Club and excellent quality. Sticker said 2.51 pounds My scale said 1.75 pounds $11 in trimmings. Not offered to me. REAL PRICE $21.497/pound. Meat manager was not concerned about it when I called. That's what he said. Price trimmed is $21.50/pound. Of course I should know that because he knows it? Said "bring it back. I'll replace it. " Easy for him to say. He goes there everyday or so. I told him I live across town and I only pass by there about 4x/yr. He could have apologized for not having his staff offer the customer the trimmings. My friends have been telling me about this place for a minute now. We had to go across a the longest bridge on water to get there. I said no. I'll pass. Well we drove in from Dallas and took interstate 12. Went on not knowing where I was but when I order and they order we left. Saia's is a meat market, booze shop and po-boy shop. As a meat and booze market, I give Saia's four stars. Their meat selection is great, and their prices are very reasonable. The staff is helpful and there has rarely been a wait when I have been there. As a po-boy shop, I have to give them two stars. The po-boys are just not that good. On the last trip we got a shrimp and hot sausage. The hot sausage was overcooked and not good. The shrimp was just ok. We got a side of potato logs and they were not good. The tasted like they had been sitting under the heat lamps all day. If you're looking for meat, this is the place. If you're looking for a good po-boy, I would go somewhere else. read more

I went in a couple of days ago and got the butcher to cut me a 24oz Prime porterhouse for my wife's birthday and the damned thing came out like butter. We were driving around when we come across a tiny supermarket with a giant plastic cow with a sign that said "shrimp po boy $6.99" Challenge accepted! It was incredibly simple with lettuce, tomato, mayo and stuffed with little golden fried shrimps that were cooked to order. The menu was small with only a few different kinds of po boys, but I have no doubt that all of the seafood items were fresh being so near to the water. The meat market itself was small but all the employees were friendly with big smiles on their faces. Locals trickled in ordering similar types of food and before I knew it, my po boy was ready. I called in a takeout order as I was approaching Mandeville. When I arrived I gave him my name and my order. As my payment is being is being processed I notice a competed order in a bag with a ticket on top. After waiting 10 minutes the same employee walks over to the completed order, looks at it and calls out my name. WTF? COVID has nothing to do with what I'm about to say, I bought a sack of potatoes and a pack of bleu cheese on two different dates. The cheese expired in November of last year and the potatoes are close to inedible. They might have good poboys and liquor selection but they do not rotate their perishables. read more
