I called, made an appointment (they're open 7 days a week!) and it took me less than one hour to finish up my taxes. What a relief. The person who signs off on all the paperwork is Mr. Huynh. He has front-end staff that inputs the information and then he goes over it with you. Huynh gave me some tips regarding my retirement investments and after shuffling around some $$, I shaved off $1300 -- that's $80 well spent in my book! I normally do my own taxes, but if I have another year with more documents than usual, I am coming back here! I'm pretty sure their clientele is mainly Vietnamese but why would that stop you from coming here? LOL.

However, after the amount of taxes due spiked in 2024, I decided to take a look at the numbers, and discovered an egregious error. They had utterly failed to account for the money I put into an IRA, which added about $1,800 to my taxes. I had submitted to them the form to report this. They failed. Period. The following is the text exchange I initiated after Ms. Boynton failed to return my phone calls. Note that she couldn't even be bothered to proofread herself. Quite the professional, eh? ME: Maryjo, I can't access the portal to pay my bill. I've left phone messages for 3 days, but haven't heard back. Please respond. Thanks. MS. BOYNTON: Mr. Haeuser, your portal has been closed. You were very definite in your last message to me that my service was not making you happy. I sent you back a message the next day- "if you are not happy with my services, which you have been receiving for the last few years you at a very discounted rate, then I suggest you find a new preparer that is what you consider affordable. I have deleted the return out of the portal. I will close you portal at the end of the week. Sincerely, Maryjo Boynton" ME: Ms. Boynton, I did not receive that message. If I had, why would I repeatedly call you to report an issue with the portal? That makes no sense, does it? At any time you could have simply returned my call, which your answering machine claimed would happen within 48 hours, but did not. As for being happy with your services, didn't someone else actually prepare my returns? The oversight on my IRA contribution could have cost me almost $1,800. Should I be happy about that, and the fact that I just realized it happened last year as well, and I'll need to file an amended return, which should be your responsibility? Check your records - I submitted all of the required forms. Prior to this, have I complained about anything, ever? No. And yet you immediately drop me as a customer, leaving me high and dry less than 2 weeks before the IRS filing deadline, while deleting all of my records, including prior years and all prior communications, including my willingness to delay a re-file for last year until you had more time available. You're seriously misreading this situation. The mistakes were not mine, and yet you're acting as though they were. To be clear, and for the record, these mistakes were made by employees of rbce, and should be rectified by employees of rbce. MS. BOYNTON: I can decide who my clients are and how to run my business. When they asked for my signature on the tax return shortly before the filing deadline, they failed to mention that they changed (from the prior year return) a key aspect of the return which increased my tax liability by the $17K. Even my tax collectors told me that DK screwed up. When I asked to schedule a call with a partner to discuss the matter, they refused to even talk it over. Instead, they took an totally adversarial approach, and cited this language in their engagement letter: "You have the final responsibility for the income tax returns, and therefore, you should review them carefully before you sign them." Simply translated: 'You pay for our screw-ups.' So if you are an accountant and can ensure their work is proper, maybe you are in a good position to hire them. For everyone else, know that their work quality, in my experience, is far below what you can get from India.

Basically and simply greedy and wanting to do the least amount of work possible to get their paycheck. I literally had never used a CPA before ​and expressed this before coming into office. I was promised I would be taken care of, informed through the ​process and I can tell you, I was basically "taken" advantage of. I met Brandon (whose​ initials are a ​representation of the office) and tried to ask him questions during our less than​ 5-minute​ meeting that was rushed. From the get-go​, the documents I was told to have prepared for the meeting were insufficient and Brandon requested more items. Which was fine but remember I am new to utilizing a CPA and relying on Brandon's office to help me prior to our meeting, which was simply emailed me a form of documents to bring which I had, but obviously the doc they sent was not updated. Next was just the overall customer experience... During my 5 minutes, ​Brandon maybe said 5 words, "hmmm", "oh" and "nodded" at the docs I did bring in. Literally still no explanation of anything, from what I need to do from the customer side of things...this continued throughout the rest of experience I encountered for this meeting and the duration of​ months I worked with the office. I never directly spoke with Brandon again, just got sent on my way and told to bring more documents. I should have cut ties immediately and took my service elsewhere but I just thought, maybe I just drop docs off and that's how a CPA works. Far from the truth as you are paying them to advise and work with you on your taxes... Advise from a professional standpoint better than me using FREE to $50 TurboTax​. Hence, why you hear​ people say I can't advise on that, it's recommended you get a "tax professional". I tried to ask to come in the ​office to figure out what was actually going on ​if I was actually doing what I needed, and had questions and was deflected through email over and over again and did not feel any value as a client. They should at least have a policy that if they have zero data they can use to make a case, you should not pay anything to them at all since they won't do anything.
