Not only did I end up owing so much I had to deplete my emergency fund, but I had to pay 3k to learn that. I was asked once about my filing status and dependencies without being told how devastating it could be if that changed. In addition, they filed an extension, and I now owe interest and penalties. Yes, life changes mean financial hardship. But I was not properly advised and this ended up being the worst experience I've ever had with a CPA.

Zero explanation on anything that they do. They charged my bank account without any invoice or prior notification. It would be nice to know ahead of time if they are going to charge me for the service. I had to follow up with them multiple times to get a status on my 2021 tax return. On top of this, our 2020 tax return got audited by the IRS and now we owe more than $5,000. These were prepared by the Mathews Chacko team. I wrote them an email expressing my frustration with their service and seeking for their assistance, and I received an email from them telling me to pay the IRS. They pretty much can't help me even though they made the mistake in my tax return. See email photo I attached. That shows that they do not care about customer service nor my business. They can't even stand behind their own work. If they are going to claim something on my tax return that they should know will need receipts, then they should have ensured we have receipts to substantiate the claims when they prepared the tax return. I have used them for 3 years now and will not be coming back to this firm for my next tax return. Absolutely horrendous experience!
