I was a loyal customer to the business that was bought out by Maryjo Boynton. The location was…read moreconvenient, so I continued to use her services. Prior to 2024 I had no complaints. However, after the amount of taxes due spiked in 2024, I decided to take a look at the numbers, and discovered an egregious error. They had utterly failed to account for the money I put into an IRA, which added about $1,800 to my taxes. I had submitted to them the form to report this. They failed. Period. The following is the text exchange I initiated after Ms. Boynton failed to return my phone calls. Note that she couldn't even be bothered to proofread herself. Quite the professional, eh? ME: Maryjo, I can't access the portal to pay my bill. I've left phone messages for 3 days, but haven't heard back. Please respond. Thanks. MS. BOYNTON: Mr. Haeuser, your portal has been closed. You were very definite in your last message to me that my service was not making you happy. I sent you back a message the next day- "if you are not happy with my services, which you have been receiving for the last few years you at a very discounted rate, then I suggest you find a new preparer that is what you consider affordable. I have deleted the return out of the portal. I will close you portal at the end of the week. Sincerely, Maryjo Boynton" ME: Ms. Boynton, I did not receive that message. If I had, why would I repeatedly call you to report an issue with the portal? That makes no sense, does it? At any time you could have simply returned my call, which your answering machine claimed would happen within 48 hours, but did not. As for being happy with your services, didn't someone else actually prepare my returns? The oversight on my IRA contribution could have cost me almost $1,800. Should I be happy about that, and the fact that I just realized it happened last year as well, and I'll need to file an amended return, which should be your responsibility? Check your records - I submitted all of the required forms. Prior to this, have I complained about anything, ever? No. And yet you immediately drop me as a customer, leaving me high and dry less than 2 weeks before the IRS filing deadline, while deleting all of my records, including prior years and all prior communications, including my willingness to delay a re-file for last year until you had more time available. You're seriously misreading this situation. The mistakes were not mine, and yet you're acting as though they were. To be clear, and for the record, these mistakes were made by employees of rbce, and should be rectified by employees of rbce. MS. BOYNTON: I can decide who my clients are and how to run my business. Look else where. You are no longer my client. MS. BOYNTON: You have an extension. You have plenty of time before the October deadline. ______ end of messages ______ A real professional, eh? The team of Ryan, Kyla, and Yvonne provide exceptional service. There is something tangible about this when it comes to protecting your home, auto, life, etc. I primarily work with Kayla (but the whole team has been interactive & supportive; including Ryan the owner agent) Kayla is responsive, attentive, insightful, and caring. These can be rare attributes; especially in the insurance segment. I trust the team at Ryan Torres State Farm. I'm confident in my coverage and protection, and know I can rely on them when needed. Finally, Transactional dealings...price shouldn't be the only factor when selecting insurance (see above), but is a key component to purchase behaviors . Ryan Torres State Farm was the lowest rate. I bundled my home & auto. I shopped the big five players in the space and State Farm beat everyone. I defined the coverage to assure an equal playing field. I reached out to this company to consider hiring for my taxes. My previous CPA and I had become…read moregood friends over the years, and he never had a problem with doing my taxes, quickly and efficiently! However, unfortunately he passed away. I'm a senior so have been doing self employment taxes for many decades. Never, and I do mean NEVER have I encountered (as I also see some reviews say here), such TOTAL RUDENESS and lack of caring or ability to treat a potential client with courtesy, unprofessional behavior, and just general incompetence as with this firm! It may just be that I made an appointment with the senior/owner, who stated up front that he'd be retiring soon.... I was early for the appointment, but then waited for 45 minutes AFTER the appointment time, with no apology, and then almost an hour of going over "how I'd done everything incorrectly," with nothing short of berating me, and how he wanted it done, diagramed for me (which was fine, but then he didn't want me to take notes saying that he'd give me the diagram, only to FORGET to give me the diagram!), and he didn't seem to know how to even make a copy of the few documents that needed to be sent w/ returns, so he just kept the originals... I would have made copies ahead, but my printer was malfunctioning, and we are talking less than 10 pages of W2's,etc.. Went home feeling like "Man! Does this guy have early dementia w/ temper issues, or what?" After I worked for several hours back home to "re-organize" what was always easy for my other CPAs to use, I sent to him, only to receive yet further ridicule from "Larry" who after waiting almost 2 weeks to get back to me, then said when I finally called to find out "if he received or had any questions" that he'd "had thousands of clients and not one had ever questioned or had trouble following his directions!" He then got really angry and said that he "didn't think we were a good match and he would not be able to prepare my taxes!" So, if you go with this firm, I hope that the younger son or daughter in the firm (Larry's kids), will be able to treat you with courtesy and competence. Larry definitely needs to retire. To the extreme that I copied my letter back to him to his son, hoping that perhaps he'd take over for a potential new and easy to work with client.... I'm guessing they walk on eggshells around their dad. Sad, but not the way to run a successful firm!
