Our…read moreoriginal plan was to stay enrolled for about 6 months to focus on math and reading, mostly for my 7 year old because I did not like common core math she was getting at school. We were going to be changing schools and wanted to make sure she was where she needed to be at the new school. After the six months we realized the kids were doing very well and learning at their pace and we decided to stick with it. It was one of the best educational decisions we have made for them. Kumon simply became part of the daily routine in our household, as the kids do packets 7 days a week. They really don't remember life before Kumon so it is just part of their routine. We strongly believe ALL kids can benefit from Kumon. Both subjects helped the kids develop exceptional study habits and they are straight A students in school. Kumon helped with reading skills (grammar, spelling, comprehension and more) and Kumon Math helped them to easily navigate what they were given in school. Beyond the educational portion, it gave them confidence and that is what I am most grateful for. Tina and her staff have always been wonderful to the kids and to us, the parents. She communicates with us on the goals and when kids are struggling with topics. She provides concrete suggestions on how to handle those occasional struggles. If you are even remotely considering Kumon, whatever the reason, I strongly recommend you enroll. Stay with it for at least six months. I really think if you do it for a year or longer you will no doubt see the benefits as we have.

During COVID, we had a smooth transition to online and packet pickup (and even spent some months in another State). And with the extra hours in the day (since there was no where to go), the extra Kumon practice was beneficial for filling in some of the hours with useful learning. An example of key learning was the completion of squares method for determining the vertex of a quadratic equation. Who knew? That method is also the basis of the proof for the discriminant method of solving more complex quadratic equations. This is covered very briefly in Algebra 1 and your student might miss the importance of this without Kumon.

My parents took me here after second grade when I still could not read and I went from a kindergarten reading level to a sixth grade reading level after a few weeks over summer. I came back to school with a better understanding of how to read, spelling, vocabulary and English in general then the kids that used to make fun of me. They gave me confidence, a sense of accomplishment, and my school took me out of the remedial reading program and put me in the gifted and talented one in third grade. They were able to help me when my school had basically given up. Many of the information still sticks with me today. After lindamood-bell I became an avid reader and now read a few books a week, my favorite hobby. The staff of that time was great and I even remember the receptionist taking me to a store nearby for some quick new clothes when I spilled chocolate milk all over myself during lunch break. After I "graduated" one of the owners gave me "the trumpeter of the swan" with a nice note to me inside. Granted this was 20 years ago but my parents often say it was one of the best ways they ever spent their money. My mother still raves about them to anyone who will listen.

They told me that they recommend 5 days a week session, 4 hours long each day. I cant imagine putting my kid in 4 hours of tutoring AFTER a full day of school. He's only 7. So I talked to them about how they would help him. They told me about the test for 300.00 that's normally 695.00. Ok, a few dollars, but doable. Then they told me that there rate 109/hr. Wait... 109/hr X 20 hrs = 2000 PER Week. Are you Kidding me. Ok, I will sell my house, car, all my possessions so you can help my kid. At this point it didn't matter. Unless you were well Heeled, this program is NOT for you. It's too bad. Maybe this program is exceptional. But unless I sell all my organs and everything I own, I can't do it. But wait, then I would be dead anyways. I wonder if they sold Real Estate before this... Shocked and wondering when people who care for kids above money will ever come forth?

When my child was attending this JEI, all her workbooks were black and white photo copies. Sometimes, the copies were so bad, it was difficult to read what the question was. So my wife and I decided to visit another JEI and found colored workbooks! They were high quality colored workbooks! Yes, colored workbooks! What am I paying for then? I digress, but this other JEI was well lit too. What about the the teacher to student ratio? 5 to 1? No no, it is more like 11 children to 1 adult (Ms. Grace). Poor Ms. Grace. How do we know this? My wife volunteers at the school, so she is able to ask each of the kids about this JEI during school time. The kids confirmed that Ms. Grace does everything. And try to talk to Ms. Seema. She is, of course, always away from her desk or on vacation. Do NOT send your kids here!
