The worst excuse of a management company I have ever experienced. Repairs are not completed. We either get no hot water or the water is hot enough to scald within seconds, I have been bathing out of a bucket so I can control the water temperature because showering has caused me injury too many times. Tub was riddled with holes and repairs were never finished on it. The repairman never shows up on time, if at all, but will get upset with you if you inquire as to when he'll be arriving. Mold. Sagging ceilings. It seems like each week we find a new problem that's never addressed. It wasn't cleaned, carpet shampood, or repainted before we moved in. We spent an entire day just scrubbing and it's still disgusting. Outdated appliances with quirks like the oven door not closing. The complete inability to control the temperature of your unit. I've experienced 80-90 degrees indoors in the winter, with my thermostat as low as it will go, but if you dare open a window you're fined. They manage absolutely nothing and will defer to "the owner", who I have never met nor spoken with, to approve of repairs. Of course these approvals never happen. Avoid, avoid, avoid! read more

This company managed a property I had in Rochester, MN. The company does a poor job at communicating. It was extremely difficult to get a hold of them. Several calls and email go un-answered for days. Additionally, when I discovered tenant rent was never deposited in my account, the company did nothing to advise me that this had occurred. It was only after following up with a few emails that I found out that they rent was delayed. I finally was paid the full rent due, 24 days after the due date. This should be the responsibility of the management company. If you hire a company to manage your property, you shouldn't have to play detective to make sure basic tasks are completed. Bottom line, I would look at other management companies in the area first. read more

Shown terrible, dirty apartments, initially, and they were totally unwilling to charge me only one pet fee when I explained that my two dogs are there only two days a week. Not a great experience, overall, and wouldn't recommend, unfortunately. We lived in a large house in NW Rochester for three years. It was in a great location and we loved being on Essex Park trail, as we had three dogs ($75 per month for three years, just as a warning). Prior, the house sat empty for months (I was watching the house as we prepared to relocate from the west coast) so we were a bit surprised after driving from Southern California to Minnesota to find out the home wasn't ready for us on move-in date. Someone was still "cleaning" when we were there and we were told the white sink was simply stained. A couple years into moving in we realized that bleach and Magic Erasers took ~80% of the stains away. We left the sink cleaner than we received it. The carpets were stained in the main living room, the hallways, the downstairs living rooms... there were scratches on the front and garage door from previous dogs that I'd assume we were blamed for when moving out since no one took a single photo during our walk through. We accepted a lot of these things thinking "we'll definitely keep the house at at least this condition" as they didn't paint any walls, clean carpets, etc before we moved in. We were denied repainting the bedroom when we asked (the master bedroom was large and had a walk-in closet, but was ketchup red. We learned to live with it but would have gladly painted it a more neutral color). The bushes died in the front yard and the owners declined paying to replace them but did agree to tossing a coat of rocks over where landscaping used to be. On a positive note, when multiple things broke, like the garbage disposal, and the garage door, Matik Management did manage repair. When we moved out to buy a home in late 2016, they raised the rent by 500 dollars without a single upgrade to the home, we followed all move out instructions the best that we could, but figured that since they didn't do improvements prior, we wouldn't have to sweat it. We were good tenants, did not destroy the house, and assumed we'd earn our deposit of (at least) $1450 back. We assumed that the $75/month for our three dogs who didn't damage the house would add on top of it just in case the dogs did make any damages. No. Just a courtesy charge. 23 months later, we received a letter from a company in Minneapolis, letting us know that we had a $100 balance owed to Matik because of 2 hours of vacuuming, cleaning the carpets, painting, cleaning the sink, etc. ALL things they didn't do when we moved in, and things we did on our own moving out. Matik had sent this to debt collection, threatening our credit score, if we didn't pay within 30 days. We hadn't received previous notices from Matik. Simply notified by the collection agency that this had been sent to collections. Unfortunately, I paid the fee only to keep my husbands sterling score clean. But the ultimate experience sits really sour with me and when we rent our beautiful home in SW Rochester owhen we move, we will not choose Matik Management to handle it. read more

So Matik management is the worst place you could ever ever rent from. Here are my reasons why first my current apartment I live at 820 N Broadway Ave Rochester, MN 55906 there are drug dealers who live in the apartment, it super outdated, the ac that is included with your rent keeps going out and all they do is put a patch on it that's it, they take there sweet ass time to come and replace stuff, the hallway carpets are nasty and stained, most of the woods around the windows are rotting which let's cold air in during the winter time, when file a maintenance request it takes them around 2 weeks for them to get there. I DON'T RECOMMENDED THIS APARTMENT OR MATIK MANAGEMENT TO ANY THEY SUCK. read more

Overall not a great experience. I will start with what they did well.. The move in process was very easy, and they were relatively fair with the move out inspection. The security deposit came back quickly and they were fair with the charges I received. These are the only things that kept them from getting just 1 star. Reasons for the two stars; - Lack of responses via email and phone calls.. there were times that I would not receive a response unless I wrote several follow-up emails. - Long delays for work orders. I submitted a request to have a doorknob fixed.. it took 4 months to get a response after I had to remind them that my request went unanswered. - When I was moving in I realized some furniture was not going to fit. I called the office to see if I can apply for the downstairs apartment but was told that the space had been rented. This was a blatant lie. For MONTHS after I moved in the downstairs space was on the market and had viewings regularly. Why was I told the space was rented when it wasn't? -Overall I did not feel like a valued tenant. For over three years I paid $28,600 to Matik. You would think that responses for service and questions would be answered in a timely manner and that they would make you feel appreciated for the amount of money you are shelling out. I was so happy to move out and into my own home. Being a tenant under Matik really makes you want to move into your own space.. so thanks for that I guess? I would not recommend using Matik as your property management company, however you are kind of stuck with Matik if you do not want to move into an apartment building. read more

Absolutely the worst people! They will try to strong arm you if you don't know the laws and they don't use licensed contractors to do repairs. They are only out to protect their clients, the home owner. Anyone that rents from them can expect to be treated like trash because they will only take the word of the property owner, renters are garbage to them. My advice is to call the MN attorney general's office. Trust me that's the only way they will sit up and take notice. read more

Not a good experience. I was thrilled to find such a lovely home about 10 minutes from my new job site. Once in, I found the house was not as clean as it appeared; air ducts, oven hood, light fixtures were filthy and plumbing had slow drainage throughout house. I took it in stride and cleaned it up. Given a 6 month option only; verbally agreeing to sign a 2-year lease at that point. Four months later, I receive notice the rent has gone up several hundred dollars! I offered to negotiate with no luck, so moving out after six month lease, even though I wanted to stay another 2 years. I am leaving house much cleaner than when I arrived. Disappointing. Strongly recommend you avoid Matik AT ALL COST. 1. Do not expect to get your deposit back. Lived in an apartment for 6 years and owner did a walk through at end and said "wow you kept it up so well" and then we hired a cleaner to even clean it after we moved out and not only did we not get our deposit back but we also got billed. SIX YEARS! 2. They will not complete repair requests. Usually takes 1-2 emails and 3- 4 calls and then someone will come out and waste your time and say ok i think i knwo whats wrong and then they will leave and never come back to fix it. If you call them again and ask what happened they will come back and sometimes fix some of the things you ask to have fixed 3. Whatever the apartment looks like in the pictures is not what you will end up with. For example they replaced all the beautiful kitchen lights with awful 5$ plastic lights and never did repair the water damaged ceiling. 4. We didn't have AC for weeks despite having a new baby at home. Routinely went above 85 degrees at night. They told us its not their problem because its a building issue. Well given we rent we had no way of working with the buidling. Best part was after probably 5 different repair visits and dozens of calls and emails in the end it was a unit problem. So in summary i would avoid matik at all cost. Buy if you have to. Go anywhere else. They are a scam!!! read more

Couldn't get my rent right for 3 months, they won't sign lease renewals in front of you, and the latest offense, failed to lock my place back up when I wasn't home after an inspection. If I could give them negative stars, I would and they'd deserve every bit of it. Rented a house from Matik for three damn years. Left two years ago. When we moved in, they were still cleaning. The kitchen was a disaster, the bathroom literally had drywall on the floor even though they tried to tell us they had cleaned it (uhhh I am looking at the floor and can clearly see it isn't), and the carpets were so bad that as we were doing our initial walkthrough and pointing out spots, the guy literally told us "let's just say, spots all over the carpets in every room". Our bushes died a month into us living there and I offered to replant if they'd pay for them, an they said no. I offered to restrain the deck that had literally never been refinished after the original owners, and they said no. Now two years after we've moved out, we get a bill for the carpets (umm they were fucking disgusting when we moved in), the paint (never repainted before we moved in), an two hours of vacuuming (we had it professionally cleaned before moving out an it only took them an hour). Matik are the biggest crooks in Rochester and don't deserve a single person's business. They WILL screw you over. We talked to multiple other people who had previously rented from them and it was unanimous how awful the people and their business are. They are a joke of a business in Rochester which is why they have a pathetic 1 star rating (obviously). I've reached out to them multiple times trying to discuss the charges and they refuse to answer or return my calls. Then respond with threats and insults to me and my wife. They are truly an awful company and an awful group of people. read more

Matik is a complete joke. I had MANY issues with the home I rented from them and they never addressed any of them until I told them I was not paying my rent anymore. I started a rent escrow account and took them to court. I dealt with a busted front door, heaters/registers that didn't work, wobbly toilets that ran constantly, an ANT INFESTATION, faucets that leak...and many more problems. I finally moved out in April. Matik does not care about their tenants, they just want that payday. Please find another management company to rent from. Matik is crooked. read more

Update: we got the strangest check from Matik today for 600 dollars (we made a deposit of 4,000 or so dollars), meaning they took 3400 bones from us. There was no receipt for carpet replacent (again Bear Valley flooring who they got the quote from (2 weeks late) barely exists on-line from what I can tell, but may have been nice to have a receipt from a true carpet company). Just show us what was needed, why the pad did not need to be replaced, who you hired to clean the carpet (they did it themselves, innovative home solutions). We have served Matik Management AND the owners of the home (a warning to you owners who may use them! They don't seem to understand law). I have asked repeatedly for how old the carpet was, they refuse to answer, my mother-in-law who owns a carpet store said it is kanga back and at least 8 years old! Here is my analogy, and the one I will give to a judge, Tom Hill, if you read these: this is like renting a 2008 Honda civic and making a scratch on it and the rental company says " too bad, now we are charging you fir the full price of a 2014 Honda civic". Makes no sense and is why the law is In The renters favor. If you use them as an owner, I would suggest getting out. Thinking about it, there are other, more ethical companies in Rochester. Again, we have served the owners and will see them in court just like Matik, they have to fly up from Texas... They get a tax break owning that house and we will highlight that just as well. If you rent from them... Beware, they don't seem to understand that they can't charge renters (we will be bringing old neighbors to court with us testifying that we we were the third renters in 3 years and there were irony and kool-aid stains on 2 of the carpets they wanted to replace. Tuesday evening we looked at a home and were told by the leasing agent that to secure the house, we had to go by first thing in the AM on Wednesday. Not true- someone submitted an application online and got the place before us. Next they showed us a home on Wednesday and told us it was available immediately. After we turned in our application they later called us and said the home wouldn't be available until after June 28th. They didn't even attempt to apologize for their mistake when we picked our paperwork up. Horrible communication and super disorganized. Avoid! read more

I had the pleasure of working with Matik Mgmt. in both property management and property sales. I had previously used two other property managers in the Rochester community, but was very disappointed with the lack of effort & communication that is essential for any property owner ( I live over 1000 miles away, so I was flying blind). With Matik, I had regular contact with their staff, & monthly statements in a timely manner. When we decided to sell our property, Matik negotiated an agreement with the current tenants, & provided an agreeable solution for their departure. 4 days after the property went on the market, we had a contract within 1% of our asking price! I truly appreciate the diligence & hard work they put forth, & would strongly encourage anyone searching for property managers, or real estate buying/selling to contact them ASAP. Luke W. read more

Worst rental management company ever. We have tried contacting them 5 times and have yet to hear back. Find someone else to rent through.

If I could give this company zero stars, I would. I have perfect rental history and have always had great relationships with landlords but dealing with this place, specifically the owners, was a nightmare. When we moved in, the house was disgusting. The kitchen was dirty, food stains on the sink and counters, windows were not cleaned, and the toilets had urine and feces in and on them that was never cleaned. The grass had not been mowed in a long time and the weeds were horrendous. We called and complained but they never came to even look or to take care of the issues they left us with. While living there, maintenance was never done in a reasonable amount of time. When we moved out, they tried to charge us for things that we were not responsible for and said we owed them, oddly enough, exactly what we had paid for our deposit ($1295)... We finally were able to meet with the owners after sending numerous emails and calling several times to tell them that they had made several bookkeeping errors and had pictures of the apartment upon moving out as proof. They made a few slight changes but continued to say that we owed them money. After moving out, they gave us bad rental referrals to potential landlords so no rental companies would rent to us. We continued to try and contact them to remind them to correct their bookkeeping errors but they kept avoiding our calls. They finally made the changes after TWO years, eventually admitting that, "Oops," they owed us money (which they never paid us). It was the worst rental experience I've ever had and I would tell people to run far, far away from this company. They were extremely unorganized, impossible to get a hold of, and very unprofessional. read more

If you are thinking of renting a Matik property or actually are in a contract, you should be aware of how little of your deposit you will probably get back. Insist on seeing the MoveIn report so you can see all the tiny details they photographed to legally protect themselves when they take away most of your deposit. Before you do the Move Out insist on seeing Matik's Table of Charges so you are knowledgeable about how much you will lose. For instance, check out every light fixture, including those with covers. If there is a lightbulb missing (even if it was missing when you moved in) replace it! They will charge you $15 labor and $5 to replace a missing bulb. Ask to see the Move Out report and compare every photo with the Move In. Even if it's cleaner than when you moved in, they will search carefully for any tiny discrepencies. Write and submit a written report with anything you disagree with and do this before they return your deposit. In the end, they'll still find a way to take some of your deposit by taking photos at different angles that give a false suggestion of something not being cleaned. Take your own photos at Move In and Move Out even though that probably won't help either. read more

Been renting from Matik for around three months, had nothing but problems. First, there are gas stoves. Our pilot light has gone out twice within the first month. The second time it happened, we submitted a work order to have someone come look at it. A week went by (with the stove leaking gas this entire time) with no one contacting us. We finally called the emergency maintenance line, to receive a call back telling us to call MN Energy (whom, mind you, would not fix the problem, but come and confirm the leak and shut off gas to the building). It took us walking up to the management office to get someone to come and look at a stove that was leaking gas (fun fact: my roommate is asthmatic, too, to add to the safety hazard of breathing in natural gas for a week straight). Within 24 hours of someone coming to fix the stove, we had a pipe burst. My roommate called and they patched it up til morning, saying they'd be back to look at it in the morning. I was out of the house when this all happened, as I was working an overnight (10 pm - 6 am) shift at my job. They came back in the morning, as they claimed, being somewhat noisy and rousing me from trying to sleep. The maintenance man told my roommate that he had to get a part, that he'd be back. My roommate waited for him to return, and, after waiting a while, decided to do an errand quick while he was out. My roommate left a note on the door for him to come back later, as he was out and I was sleeping. He proceeded to ignore the note, and start asking me (who was half asleep, and a half dressed young female alone in my apartment) questions about an event that happened while I was not even there. About a month later, the same maintenance man from before (I don't know what his name is - it is not the guy named Paul, Paul was actually somewhat respectful) came in while my roommate was at work, and I was sleeping after another night shift, again, waking me up and asking me about events that happened while I, again, was not here. We've had minor problems (door sticking, no screen on window, smoke detector constantly beeping, etc), and when work orders are put in for them, they are utterly ignored. In addition to this, we had some issues with the billing. My roommate went to the office to try to straighten it out. We had paid about $19 extra on the first rent payment - we had been supposed to move in the 24th and pay that week or so until the next month, but hadn't been able to move in until the 27th or so, so that fee had been cut down and we'd ended up paying around $19 extra. When the person was looking at the billing history, she couldn't figure out where this $19 was coming from - so she decided to try to throw it out, as if that had never existed. Luckily my roommate caught it and explained what it was that it was for. read more

Matik is hands down the worst renting group I have ever dealt with, our washing machine broke and it took over five weeks for them to get us a new one. They sold the house we lived in and had to move out early, and then sent us a bill in the mail for rent fees. Apparently they wanted us to be able to move in one day.
