    Broken cap

Scam alert! Tasting experience was nice but it went south after that. I decided on a ceramic ring shaped bottle - I was told I was buying anejo tequila but it's actually "licor de agave anejo" which seems to be some sort of flavored tequila at best. Definitely false advertising. My connecting flight was in Houston and the TSA security machine is too small to verify this type of odd-shaped bottle and so I had to go back out and pay $80 to check it. I bought a 2nd bottle (which I now see is "liquor de agave reposado") and because I bought 2 $200 bottles, the salesperson said he would include an extra bottle for free and immediately bubble wrapped it and included it in my bag. This bottle turned out to have a broken cap and leaked everywhere. Additionally, the bottle is a flavored kiwi drink and I'm allergic to kiwi. Oh, and it actually wasn't free - it was 969 pesos. It was dumb for me to not check the receipt but I wasn't counting on being lied to and cheated. I tried to reach out to the company itself but couldn't figure out to do so - I'd really a refund for this extra charge as I never would have paid money for something I'm allergic to and never agreed to do so. I also would like an apology for representing these 2 bottles of tequila I purchased as tequila, rather than what they are: tequila-flavored drinks.

    My missing stone.

HONEST REVIEW 1. So... if you don't listen to your concierge than this is going to feel like a bit of a scam. They take you to 5th avenue for free WITH the stipulation that you visit their jewelry/liquor store first. But we personally were told that several times and even had to sign off on this... So no surprise there. 2. They will pressure you to buy something, because that is their jobs and I know many places in the states just like that, but honestly, put your foot down and say no and you will move along with the tour. 3. As for the quality of the merchandise, it is over priced costume jewelry.... Which means you ABSOLUTELY should not pay ticket price. If you really want something as memorabilia then haggle. 4. IMPORTANT INFO! For those that are looking at reviews and are terrified.... Their customer service isn't as bad as you think!!! Read on for more. My experience: my grandmother, sister and I decided to buy matching rings. We got the price from $252 a piece to $180 a piece, which is still way overpriced for a sterling silver, fake sapphire, fake white topaz ring. (They will claim they are real... I even asked again if it was really white topaz and they assured me it was. The ring does also have a 925 stamp on it, so who knows, I'll ask my jeweler when I get back.) Day 1, a stone fell out... I wasn't surprised because of the reviews but I messaged their Facebook page none the less. I was surprised they answered immediately. Said if I could get to a branch they would take care of it. I was super lucky that I had three more days at my resort and could waste my time doing it. I have a feeling if I was home in the states this would be a bit more difficult. I had to get my resort to reluctantly schedule transportation for me back to the store. I don't know why that was so difficult but Matiese worked it out to send me private transportation. I went back to the store and they fixed the ring. I asked them to tighten the setting and they did, no questions asked. Then the manager approached me, he remembered me from the day before, and presented me with a free necklace for the inconvenience. Cheapish necklace, but SUCH a nice gesture. I was impressed once again. At the end of the day, I spent $180 on a cheap ring I could have gotten for $50 at kohls. But it was an experience for me. I specifically am impressed that they answered so quickly. And impressed they got me individual transportation just to bring me back. Also, no fuss at all replacing the stone. I asked what would I do when I'm back home in the states and they said that I could mail it back to be fixed, but the manager also said that if I let them know I am in the states they can even try and find a local jeweler to help me free if charge. So, we will see! I know everyone is reading these reviews and freaking out. Don't get sucked into buying something if you don't want to. It was a sentimental buy for me. And I am not unsatisfied.

If I were truly interested in buying jewelry I would rate this place 5 stars because their items are truly exquisite. We did not really have a choice, this was part of a guided tour we signed up for because we wanted to go to Playa Del Carmen. This place designs and sells jewelry. We had to go on a tour of their facility then move on to another site. As I said they are an amazing place if you are indeed looking for a one of a kind piece. We were not! The tour staff was nice, they understood we were not interested but they were very knowledgeable about their gems and metals.

We had a wonderful experience at Matises & Co. in Riviera Maya. Our sales representative, Nancy, was very friendly and knowledgeable. She picked up on my preferences very quickly and showed several pieces that are my style. Purchased some rings as replacements for our wedding bands and absolutely love mine. Also got a matching set of coloring changing stones for my daughter. Then went next door for some tequila tasting and souvenir shopping. All staff was very nice and made us feel welcomed. Overall, I would recommend a visit there.

I bought a ring and a couple hours after wearing it, my finger turned green. This place in a scam please beware. The place is beautiful but the sell fake things!

I purchased 2 pieces of art that I love and it was fun to look at all the other vibrant and electric items and displays. The tshirts at re unique and not over the top expensive. I'd recommended this a must stop of something cute to take home.

Luckily, this little gem is very easily accessible and not hard to find (due to the pink exterior paint!). I hate those shops where the employees are hunting you down, basically forcing you to buy mass-produced items at ridiculous costs. We wanted a place where we could feel good about our purchases. Mexicarte sells all handmade items by artists throughout Mexico. It's almost like a fair-trade store. You leave feeling good about the money you just spent, and can come back home bearing gifts with a story behind them. Mexicarte has the prettiest, brightest, and most unique gifts in every corner of the store. We actually had to come back a few times because we kept comparing all the other shops to this one, and just wanted to spend our money here. From day of the dead items, skulls, crosses, to handbags, jewelry, wall art, clay art, you name it. Everything is handcrafted with such care and detail, you can see the love the artists put into it. Everything is priced very fair. You can find gifts for any budget, we brought back a couple little turtle figurines for about $1.50 USD for example...and great quality! I love how helpful the employees are, and can provide the backstory to all the items they sell. They let you roam around freely, and don't pressure you into buying anything. Parking? Not so sure. We stayed at Akumal Beach Resort, it took us 10 minutes to walk up the beach here. You will see the Akumal Dive Shop, walk through to the back of the Dive Shop and you will see Akumal Plaza. It's a bright pink stand-alone building. You can't miss it. Happy shopping! :)

When in a foreign country and in need of a few trinkets, jewelry and other touristy stuff that we'd…read moreprobably not really need, most of us hit the streets and search out those "souvenir shops"... well, we not us ! We may visit those oversized souvenir shops and look at all their goodies and "maybe, just maybe" we'd pick up something rather useless like a shot glass or a bandana with "F Trump" printed on it... but normally it's all just junk. Normally we want something to remember our trip and not crap... jewelry usually does the trick for my Marisol. Here in Playa Del Carmen, there is 5TH AVE... plenty of those shit stores but there are plenty of street vendors with silver and leather goods and deals can be made but it's work; lucky for me, I had Marisol and Michelle to handle the purchases on the last visit (Marisol for translation and Michelle to hammer the vendors). BUT sometimes you come across a vendor that is just easy to deal with... bringing my sales team (Marisol and Michelle) isn't even necessary. We first came across the adorable street booth (more like a side of the road kiosk along 5TH AVE)... constructed from reused wood and painted a light turquoise color, the distressed booth has a sign painted with the store name "HIPPIE MAR" is colorful, hippy-like font. And the shop is loaded up with wall art, headdresses, purses, other knick-knacks and a little bit of jewelry (but the jewelry wasn't out; we asked and she just happened to have some). We were on our way to dinner but really glad we decided to stop and take a quick peek because in addition to the tiny-booth/shop looking so cute, the girl that owned and ran the booth was extremely welcoming and didn't give us crazy up front prices that you were forced to negotiate from... she gave a price for some toe-rings, we countered but with reasonable numbers and we agreed at a fair price... Both parties parted pleased !

My sister & I visited the island in July, & during our 5 day stay, we became repeat customers of Sergio's. That in itself should speak volumes. San Miguel de Cozumel is jam packed with inexpensive little tourist traps, so when we first stepped foot in Sergio's & began to notice a theme with the prices of the jewelry, it came as a little bit of a shock. This is fine jewelry, made from fine silver, by a fine family - Sergio Sr. & Sergio Jr. My sister found a gorgeous ring that fit her pinky perfectly & it was love at first sight. I found a bracelet & actually felt my heart thump harder in my chest - but the price was too steep for me. At check out, Sergio Jr. gave my sister a spiel on proper silver care & how since we were now official customers, we could contact them with any questions. After we left, I thought about that bracelet for 24 hours straight. I love silver jewelry. I don't own anything spectacularly dazzling or expensive - just a lot of beloved little pieces that I've collected over the years. I wanted that bracelet so badly. So I came up with a number (the absolute most I could pay for the bracelet) & decided that I'd go back to talk to Sergio Jr. about it. I was a little nervous to return to the shop. I didn't want to insult Sergio Jr. by lowballing him, but I had to be honest with my budget. When we walked in the door, he recognized us immediately, said "welcome back," & asked my sister how she liked her new ring. That put me at ease. I was honest with him - I saw a bracelet when we first came in & haven't stopped thinking about it, but it's really far out of my budget. Would they be willing to negotiate? To my shock & delight, he said yes! We found a number that worked for both of us, & if I paid in cash, he could even go a smidge lower. I agreed. Just as I was about to leave to go to the ATM, Sergio Jr. popped the bracelet on my wrist & told me to enjoy it on my walk. Wow... I was gobsmacked by the trust. My walk to & from the ATM was so giddy & whimsical. I felt like a superstar. When I returned, Sergio Jr. gave me the whole silver care spiel again, thanked me for being a polite negotiator, & thanked us for being return customers. I promised him that if we were ever on the island again, we'd absolutely be back. I can't recommend this family enough. They clearly run their family business with integrity & care. They genuinely want you to be happy with your purchase. I'm so impressed. Not only will I return to Sergio's if I'm ever on the island again, I will also consider them for online purchases. They post a lot of their pieces on their website & also take on custom orders. If I ever need an exceptionally special piece custom made, Sergio's is definitely my #1 pick.
