Por ejemplo, a la hora de darnos el menú solo nos dieron el menú de comida pero no nos dieron el menú de las bebidas y tuvimos que preguntar por él. This was the first place my partner and I had coffee in La Condesa - I was severely underwhelmed. We wanted two almond cappuccinos, they were 85 pesos (5 USD) each. I must say it was clear they made these in a lazy manner, because one of the drinks had 50% foam (as it should) and the other had 10% foam, both were EXTREMELY watered down. They charged 5 bucks for two terrible almond milk cappuccinos and pushed those pastries on us. I won't be returning for anything, not the food, not the espresso, and not the pan dulce. If you're going to charge 5 bucks for a cappuccino, you'd better stop making them in a lazy way and steam the milk for each cappuccino separately. I'm an admitted coffee snob, however, they're charging coffee snob prices for espresso while providing a subpar product. Ambiance is nice. Customer service could use a touch up. read more

This is the kind of old school joint where the owner is on the floor greeting regulars & tourists. Waltzing in, its an open concept double decker joint if you know what I mean. Huge menu with many Mexican classics as well as salads, sandwiches & fish.. something for everyone! We tried the Carne Asada as well as the Filet de queso roquefort & both were good with the Filet edging out the Carne Asada flavor wise, wow. I have to share the same 3 star review with the Other reviews of past. Door greeters were good hustlers at selling the menu and pulled us in. Best part of the meal, Waiters and Runners were VERY Polite & Professional. It was busy and little to no service. Espresso Coffee drinks (like said in other reviews) is Very Watered Down. We asked to remake on Two occasions. Food was very Normal. But the Costs was as equal to a Good Dinner in the same colonia. Can't say I'd return to share a meal with friends, maybe a Tea & Pastry for a quick work meeting or to quickly meet a stranger. Overall staff was polite and courteous and food not the fault of waiters. And the costs I was surprised to be as much, you are paying for the Pretty Space not fine food or good coffee . read more

The best thing about this place is the service and the orange juice. My salmon omelet was utterly uninspired, dry, burnt, unseasoned... and served with nothing but maybe three tablespoons of some eggplant onion stir-fry. The coffee was watery. read more

Traveling in Mexico can be super crazy and with all of the food options around every corner it's hard to know what to spend you money and empty stomach on. We stopped in here randomly just on an afternoon walk and let me tell you start to finish this place did not disappoint. We got the flutas and the Enmoladas de pollo. Me not being a fan of mole I can say this place changed my mind. 15/10 on the flutas. They were fried to perfection and served in a salsa roja that had the most delicious balance of heat, spice, and texture. The staff was friendly and had the best recommendations for whatever type of eater you are or are visiting with. The coffee/bakery attached to it is so cute and smells like fresh baked sweetness! Located in the beautiful area of La Condesa The Matisse is a great stop for breakfast. I had the Huevos Ahogados which are a must try. It has 2-poached eggs drowned in a rajas de poblano sauce which adds a nice spice but not over powering flavor served in a cazuela that keeps it warm till the bottom of the bowl. I also recommend the mandarin mimosa. read more

The best conchas in all Mexico City. And that's quite a statement given that the competition is fierce. Somehow they manage to make them crunchy on the outside yet chewy on the inside. The sugar coating is rich and buttery. The vanilla conchas are the favorite choice but the chocolate ones are also good. In spite of the quality of the conchas, I am always torn apart because the almond croissant is also superb. In contrast with the bakery, the food is not that great. It's good, but not great. The coffee, especially, could be higher quality to go along to the pastries. I do recommend the Lebanese scrambled eggs (with shanklish). read more

The ambience surprised us first - like you're in the luxurious restaurant of 80s. But since now it's 2016 - I guess they haven't remodel for a long time ever since. The design, walls, paintings and the furniture look a bit up and old. For appetizers we ordered shrimp tacos with cheese that were savory and appetizing, originally served in rolls but tasted more like a quesadilla to me, yummy. Veal tacos on the contrary - were more traditional and a bit dry and vapid. Meat was flavorless in there. As for the main: Beef filet stuffed with Roquefort in a mushroom sauce served with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach - very delicious and toothsome. And a veal leg backed in the oven - very refined, tender and soft. Dessert was not on the menu, but the waiter brought us the showcase on the tray. Unfortunately what we chose didn't taste as good as it looked from aside, too creamy and more tasteless than gustable. There were different chef suggestions as I would like to try - as Paella Valenciana, for instance, or Risotto al fungi with truffle oil, octopus, 1/2 of the backed duck, raviolis with salmon and 4 cheeses and more. But you can't try all for one time unless you're not a Homer Simpson:) Despite the French name of the place, in the wine list there are more of Spanish and Chilean wines than French. Pretty modest selection, but the prices are quite reasonable. As by the glass there are only one red and one white Chilean wine. We were surprised by the presence of two different ports in the list, but offered only by the bottle. The restaurant was almost empty, there were only two more tables occupied and as we guessed with locals. So, if you're staying in the neighborhood or just walking around - it's a place that you might consider for dinner, but if you live far - I wouldn't bother. read more

My review is solely for the bakery. I've had conchas before in the US and they were always a bit dry and not all that delicious. My friend who was living in DF kept talking about "crack bread." Well, she was referring to Matisse's conchas. Good god, they're delicious. There's also an apple pastry that I LOVE, a tarta de manzana sueca, possibly. At any rate, we love stopping by in the morning when everything is fresh, grabbing a pastry and sitting in nearby Parque Mexico to watch the really obedient dogs, as well as the ones happily romping around. Be forewarned, the bakery section is a bit on the small side and they do sell out of some of their deliciousness. But, whatever you get is bound to be awesome. read more

I wasn't in love. Conchas were good, service was meh, food was tasty but didn't rock my world. I think maybe if it were less crowded I'd go back in the hopes that would improve service, but I won't be running back. Especially since the conchas are slightly better without the chaos at Recomienda in Roma. The bread basket with little cheesy rolls was a nice and delicious touch.
