This past September, when I called to request my annual check-up with Dr. Gary Kimoto, whom I've…read moreseen as my GYN for the past 40 years, I was informed that he would be practicing primarily at Straub Benioff Medical Center Hawai'i Kai rather than at Kapi'olani Medical Center. So, I made my appointment for December 1 as I wanted to say my "farewells," thank him for the years of care, and ask him for a referral to another physician. This morning, I met with Dr. Kimoto, whom I have greatly appreciated for his professionalism, communication, medical education, knowledge, skills, and most importantly, compassion. I asked him if he planned to retire soon before asking for a referral to this Honolulu Clinic. However, he isn't planning to retire soon. Still, he agreed that I shouldn't have to travel 11 miles to see him annually when I could conveniently see one of his successors, who is located within 2 miles at Kapi'olani Medical Center on Punahou Street. I wish Dr. Gary Kimoto the very best as he continues his practice at the Straub Benioff Medical Center Hawai'i Kai and I'll miss seeing him as one of my physicians.

I haven't been to a gyno since 2022, and also haven't been to a new doctor since I moved to Oahu almost 3 yrs ago. I called windward and let them know I was uninsured, to which they quoted me $300, and was able to schedule an appt for a little over a week later. I didn't read any reviews before making the appointment and when they mentioned I'd have a male doctor (they offered both male or female), I didn't have a problem with it. I've seen male obs in the past. My only issue ever was actually with a female doctor in California. I decided to read reviews about 30 mins before my appointment and definitely got worried based on the negative reviews for Dr. JP Clark. Trust, my blood pressure was high when they checked it. Dr. Clark was very personable. He made me feel comfortable. He did lightly touch my shoulder/knee but it was in a caring way, not sexual. He was very professional and honestly put me at ease with his demeanor. During the exam, the nurse was also in the room (I'm assuming this is a precaution based on reviews), but I would've felt comfortable whether she was there or not. I am all for supporting women and their feeling uneasy around men, but based on my experience with Dr. Clark, I have nothing but positive things to say. He took his time, addressed all my concerns and questions and came off as caring vs creepy. Hope that helps! They also only charged me the $300 I was quoted, which was amazing!
