Overall, working with Matt was a disappointing experience. After our first meeting we had high expectations that we'd have a structured, smooth process. Early on we had signs that we were just another sale, like having to remind Matt that the date we wanted to list was coming up and that we should begin advertising. Matt attended one open house, and subsequently delegated the next 3 open houses to associates (this was over two separate weekends). After we got an offer, Matt gave us verbal/text notification, which seemed exciting... but he did not mention that there was an expiry, and - critically - he did not send the official docusign to us until we explicitly requested it, by which time we had less than 24 hours before the (unknown to us) contract expired. We were then getting phone calls and texts from him threatening that the buyers were going to walk if we didn't sign right away. This was a really stressful time. On top of this, we learned that Matt was representing the buyers who made the offer, as well, so we had expected communications to be super transparent and clear. After this incident, I wrote to Matt via text explaining how the fact that we didn't get the docusign was really challenging, and that we would have liked all information up front. I got no response whatsoever. Our thread was mostly quiet after that until it was time to officially hand over keys and clean out the place, at which time Matt asked us for a few favors on behalf of the buyers (again, whom he represented). We were very eager to be done with this process. Sorry Matt, but we would not recommend folks to work with you on a San Jose home sale going forward. read more

My experience with Matt was as the recipient of a cold call. I believe he was trying to get me to list a property with him, but he was so vague, convoluted, and wishy-washy (to the point of being rude) that he never expressly said this. The team should really look into their cold calling practice; unsolicited commercial phone calls with no prior business relationship, and then once I'm on the phone, not being direct and up front about the reason for the call leaves me with a bad impression. Our relationship with Matt goes a long way and so a long review alert! We first met him at an open house for the property we were looking to buy for which he was the listing agent. He was extremely friendly and provided us with very good information that helped us (first time buyers then) decide if we wanted to place an offer for the house... And we did! The house had been completely torn down and rebuilt. We could see the attention to detail with every component used in the house and the hardwork that went in. The house like any other in the bay area had several offers but our agent told us how Matt thought our family would be perfect for the house and neighborhood and despite cash down offers, he chose to go with us. Then came the time when we wanted to sell the house and we initially decided to go with the buyer's agent we used the first time. After a few conversations, we didnt quite like the marketing/selling strategy. This was most likely because we saw such a great job done by Matt and his team the first time we saw the house. We even tried talking to a few other agents. Later, we looked up his contact information and got in touch with him. Before our first meeting, we saw a package at our front door with material introducing himself, his list of recent sales, etc. It was really impressive that he had taken the time to stop by and drop it off so we can go through it before we met. At our first meeting he went through his strategy, how he works, what he thinks of the current market and how our house fits into it. It was so refreshing talking to him after all the other agents we had interacted with. He suggested some minor work that would help with the resale value of the house. With the suggestions the house did actually sell for much more than we had imagined and brought up the value of the entire area! It also gave us more buying power towards our next home. I believe the entire process took just about 2-3 weeks from the time we met him that the house was sold. He has a great team and he knows what it takes to get the best buyers to see the house. We knew Matt is a great seller's agent but had no idea he is so good at being a buyer's agent as well. When we were selling the house he was aware that we might go with another agent to buy the next one but I never saw that come in the way on how well he did with the sale of the house. The relationship we built inclined us to go with him for buying as well eventually. Despite being super busy, he was always available to come see houses with us. When we finally decided to place an offer for a house, he told us what value he thought was good but never pushed us towards something we were not comfortable with. We really liked this one house we thought was out of our budget, but he built such a good rapport with the listing agent that they agreed to consider our offer amongst several others and we ended buying our dream home! The first two realtors I used were very bad and it seemed to back the stereotypes I had heard of (even though they were referred). But Matt was the exact opposite. He was referred to me by a friend. He represented my sole interests as the buyer. He did not push any properties on me. Rather he worked with the preferences I had. He made it clear up front that protecting my buyer deposit was the most important thing for him. After knowing my preferences, he setup a customized MLS search for me. After a day or two, I knew exactly what I wanted. He took me on a tour of about six properties. I loved one at first sight. It was a highly desirable condo in a highly desirable zip code. I asked him, "Do we have any chance getting this property because people online say cash buyers rule the market?" He told me not to worry about what people online say. I don't know what he did behind the scenes. But my offer, which was only 2.5% above asking, was accepted. It was my very first offer! But he did not stop there.
